Canada: Waterloo Brewing obtains final order for its proposed acquisition by Carlsberg Canada

Waterloo Brewing has obtained a final order of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice approving the previously announced plan of arrangement under Section 182 of the Business Corporations Act (Ontario) involving Carlsberg Canada Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Carlsberg Breweries A/S, the Canadian Manufacturing reported on March 1.
Pursuant to the arrangement, all outstanding common shares of Waterloo Brewing will be acquired by the purchaser for C$4.00 in cash per share (without interest).
The completion of the arrangement remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of certain conditions precedent customary for transactions of this nature. Assuming the satisfaction or waiver of these conditions precedent, the arrangement is expected to be completed in March.

USA, MI: Great White Buffalo Brewing Company in final preparations for opening in Northville

Eric Sokoloski can't wait to bring some new flavors to the heart of downtown Northville, hometownlife.com reported.
The Novi resident, his brother Ryan Sokoloski and their business partner John Skrabal are in the final preparations for opening Great White Buffalo Brewing Company. After 10 months of renovations and city reviews, they are hyped to open their 101 W. Main St. brewery at 3 p.m. Friday, March 3.
"It feels good," Eric Sokoloski said. "It's nice now that I have everything approved, I can kind of do whatever I want to do. I can set the culture. I can do my thing."
The brewery occupies the former Yogurt Palooza, which closed several years ago. After signing the lease last April, the owners began transitioning the former frozen yogurt shop into a brand-new brewery.
A homebrewer the last decade, Sokoloski decided to enroll in Schoolcraft College's brewing and distillation program and learn more about the business. After completing his time there, he and his partners began looking for a spot to open their dream brewery. They finally found their home in the heart of downtown Northville.

USA, OH: Red Wagon Farm announces partnership to expand into beer brewing this spring
|
Red Wagon Farm announced in a Facebook post on March 1 that they will be expanding into beer brewing this spring, the Cleveland 19 reported.
Red Wagon Brewery says that they are partnering with another new brewery, Four Paws Brewing, to produce a full menu of brews.
Craft beers, hard cider and seltzer are all on the list for production, according to the farm.
The farm says the opening date will be announced as soon as it has been decided.

USA, MD: Full Tilt Brewing to close its doors for good in mid-March
|
Full Tilt Brewing in North Baltimore announced on Facebook its closing its doors for good in mid-March. Owners Nick Fertig and Dan Baumiller announced the brewery's last day will be March 12, WMAR reported on February 28.
In a post on Monday night, they thanked everyone who supported them and said they would not "recommend anyone open a taproom right before COVID-19 and crippling inflation."
Before opening their taproom in 2019 they contract brewed out of Peabody Heights for years. Right now they say they have no plans to do that while they figure out what is next.
The brewery was known for creative beers, including a Berger Cookie Chocolate Stout. They partnered with DeBaufre Bakeries to produce a stout inspired by the sweet, rich cookie. They also created a sour series called Dan's Jams where they brewed unique beers with everything from sour gummy worms to rainbow sherbert.
In 2020, they also collaborated with rock band All time Low to create a beer called "Beer Maria."

USA, CT: Firefly Hollow Brewing closed ‘until further notice’
|
A Connecticut brewery in its tenth year of operation has announced that it is closing "until further notice," NBC Connecticut reported on March 1.
Dana Bourque, co-owner of Firefly Hollow Brewing, announced on the company's Facebook Page that the business would no longer be open as of March 1, 2023.
The brewery held its grand opening in Bristol in October of 2013.
According to the Facebook post, the business hopes to "be back at some point," though no additional details or plans have been shared.

Chang beer’s parent company, Chang International Co., is eyeing the mass-premium beer market to expand its catalogue and profits. The company announced plans to invest 1 billion baht to grow its beer business and strengthen its portfolio with Chang Cold Brew, the Thaiger reported on February 28.
With the pandemic easing, the economy coming back, and tourism blooming, people are spending more on booze. Chang is striking while the iron is hot and pushing Chang Cold Brew.
Chang Cold Brew, its beer in the mass-premium category, was introduced to the market in 2019 and garnered a favourable reception from its customers. Despite being predominantly available in upscale restaurants and modern trade outlets, the company intends to expand its customer reach by concentrating on distributing Chang Cold Brew through conventional trade channels.
The goal of the company is to establish a distinctive brand identity for Chang Cold Brew. The mass-premium beer market in Thailand is worth 25 billion baht, about 12.5% of the overall beer market. Kenya: Diageo leaves open possibility of buying additional EABL shares from open market
|
British multinational Diageo has left open the possibility of buying additional EABL shares from the open market at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) once its tender offer for an extra 14.97 percent stake in the brewer closes later this month, the Business Daily Africa reported on March 1.
The London-based firm, which is executing the acquisition of the additional stake through its wholly-owned subsidiary Diageo Kenya, ran the first phase of the tender between February 6 and 17, while the second phase opened on February 27, to run until March 17.
In its tender offer document released before the sale opened on February 6, Diageo said that it would retain a right to roll out additional tenders, or purchase stock in the open market, raising the possibility that the firm might further add to its stake in EABL down the road.
It is seeking to buy a total of 118.4 million shares in the brewer in the current tender offer at a cost of Sh192 per unit, which puts the total purchase cost at Sh22.7 billion.

Luxembourg: Brasserie Nationale content with last year’s numbers

Beer-drinking is becoming less popular worldwide, according to recent stats; but Luxembourg's Brasserie Nationale was nonetheless content with last year's numbers, RTL Today reported on March 2.
In 2022, the brewery produced 210,400 hectolitres of beer and water, bringing beer back to pre-Covid lockdown levels in 2019.
Mathias Lentz, director of Brasserie Nationale, said Luxembourg was a beer-drinking country, and beer consumption had remained relatively stable over the past few years.
Despite this, the decline in sales of local beer brands was down to the fact that the Duchy had imported many international beers over the past year or so. Since 2019, the company has made at least 20% of its profit from selling water.

UK: No and low alcohol beer now growing faster than any other beer type in the UK, Tesco saysu
|
Soaring UK demand for no and low alcohol beer is now so strong that it is growing faster than any other beer type including super trendy craft varieties.
At Tesco demand for no and low beer has rocketed by nearly 40 per cent in the last two years helped by the introduction of dedicated brands such as Lucky Saint, Athletic Brewing and Days 0%.
Notably, it’s not just the annual Dry January campaign that is inspiring healthier drinking, with Tesco recording its highest ever Christmas week demand for no and low beer as sales soared by 43 per cent on the previous year.
The supermarket also reports a new shopping pattern emerging with no and low beer drinkers switching to buying larger pack sizes rather than single cans or bottles, as a result of more confidence in the quality now available.

South Africa: South African Breweries embarks on a restructuring process that could affect some 40 jobs
|
South African Breweries (SAB), the local unit of global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), has embarked on a retrenchment process at its local operations that could affect some 40 jobs, News24 reported on March 2.
In response to questions from News24, SAB confirmed on March 2 it had embarked on a restructuring process and had started consultations with affected employees, saying that only a "very small amount – less than 0.01%" of the group's 5 000 permanent South African jobs would be affected.
It also planned, where possible, to absorb affected staff into other areas of its business.
The company said the process followed it having reviewed its operating models across the business in line with its "continuous improvement processes and a dynamic environment globally".
"This review recommended changes to human resource allocations."
It said the process it had undertaken "adhered to both the spirit and letter of labour relations legislation" and that it was currently consulting with the affected employees.
Earlier on March 2, its parent AB InBev reported SAB had delivered record total-full-year volumes after its beer market share moved ahead of its pre-pandemic levels.
