France: Diageo receives approval for Euronext Paris delisting
|
Diageo PLC on April 25 said that the delisting of its shares from Euronext Paris has now been approved, the Morning Star reported.
Diageo is a London-based brewer and distiller with brands including Guinness, Baileys, Tanqueray, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Captain Morgan.
Earlier in April, Diageo announced its intention to delist from the Euronext Paris and Euronext Dublin in May.
The announcement came just two weeks after Diageo announced that Chief Executive Officer Ivan Menezes will retire from his role on June 30, with Chief Operating Officer Debra Crew taking the helm from July. Crew is the former CEO of cigarette maker Reynolds American Inc.
It is now expected that the Euronext Paris delisting will take place on May 26.
Diageo explained that the decision has been taken following a review of the trading volumes, costs and administrative requirements related to its listing on Euronext Paris.
It added that the delisting will not have any impact on Diageo's day-to-day operations in France. Further, Diageo's listing on the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange will not be impacted.
It is currently anticipated that the Dublin Delisting will take effect on or around May 30.

Asahi Group will launch Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki Can in South Korea during May, marking the first time the product will be available outside of Japan, The Drinks Business reported on April 25.
This May will see the launch of one of Asahi’s most sought-after products into the South Korea market, marking the first time that the Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki Can will become accessible outside of Japan.
According to LOTTE Asahi Liquor Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings, the brand will “continue to consider rolling out the product in markets other than South Korea”, depending on its performance there.
This is a big deal because demand for the product was so high in its home country of Japan that Asahi had to limit distribution on a month-by-month basis.
The result of four years of product development, the beer can debuted in Japan in April 2021. A special interior coating produces a fine foam when the can is opened, which Asahi says makes it the “world’s first product that allows consumers to enjoy the same taste as a mug of draft beer served at a bar or restaurant”. Turkey: Turkey imposes 130% import tariff on grain imports
|
Turkey imposed a 130% import tariff of some grain imports including wheat and corn, according to a presidential decision published on April 25 in the Official Gazette.
The import duty comes after some European Union countries announced bans on grain imports from Ukraine last week. But some traders said Turkey's move is largely to protect its local agricultural sectors ahead of landmark May 14 elections.
According to a previous regulation, there was no import tax on wheat, barley, rye, oat, corn and sorghum until April 30. With this week’s decision, which will take effect from May 1, a 130% import tariff will be imposed for grain imports.
Turkey's wheat and barley harvest starts in May.
Turkey had reduced import duties on grains and other agricultural goods after the pandemic in late 2020 and stopped them about a year ago.
The government recently announced large energy and infrastructure projects in the run up to the election, which opinion polls show President Tayyip Erdogan could lose after two decades in power.
