USA, AZ: Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. to open a third location next year
|
Fans of Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. have something to look forward to next year, as the Gilbert-based company is set to open a third location in 2024. Located at 1428 East McDowell Road, the building will house the company's brewing operations along with a new restaurant and taproom, the Phoenix New Times reported on April 24.
"There's a fair amount of approvals we'll need to get and construction that'll need to happen before the space is fully open to the public," Zach Fowle, head of marketing for Arizona Wilderness, says in a statement to Phoenix New Times. "However, the brewhouse and fermenters will all be in operation before the restaurant/taproom side is open, so we hope to be brewing a little earlier than that."
The new location is situated in Phoenix's Miracle Mile district, a historic area that was one of the Valley's most desirable places to shop, eat, and walk in the 1940s and '50s.
The brewery's co-owners, Jonathan Buford and Patrick Ware, purchased a 10,000-square-foot adaptive reuse building that formerly housed a commercial florist.
“We think buying old buildings and refurbishing them is way better for the environment and better for the community,” Buford tells New Times, nodding to the brewery's overall

USA, ME: Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co. buys its seventh location
|
Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co., founded in Yarmouth in 2017, bought its seventh location, in New Gloucester, and is restarting a brewing facility there and adding a kitchen, pub and disc golf course, the Mainebiz reported on April 24.
“We’ll have a craft beer vibe,” said the company’s president and owner, Brad Moll. “You’ll be able to eat there and walk out back and play disc golf. We’ll have a lot of outdoor seating.”
Brickyard Hollow Brewing Co. bought 437 Lewiston Road from NU Property LLC for $1,620,400.
The property was listed at $1.9 million and included a brewery and taproom on about 8 acres, with all furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Cheri Bonawitz and Karen Rich of Malone Commercial Brokers brokered the transaction.
The property consists of a 7,640-square-foot building on about 8 acres that was the location for a business called Nu Brewery.
“This was a strategic for us, because the brewery is all set up,” said Moll. “We can start brewing beer immediately.”
Moll said he had been looking for a facility to expand his brewing operation for a couple of years.
“This came along,” he said.
Moll opened Brickyard Hollow with Frank Grondin at 236 Main St. in Yarmouth, as that town’s first craft

USA, ID: Loose Screw Beer Company eyeing second location in Meridian
|
Local Meridian micro-brewery Loose Screw Beer Company could soon have a new location, boisedev.com reported on April 24.
Currently, Loose Screw operates a taproom in North Meridian and has a production facility in Garden City. The new location is proposed for 105 E Carlton Ave in downtown Meridian and would house a taphouse and beer production.
The new downtown Meridian space was formerly the Chapel of the Chimes funeral home.
“The newly proposed location will house our entire beer production, taproom space for retail sales, and event space,” the application letter said. “The production space will hold a brand-new state-of-the-art 10bbl system from Premier Stainless out of San Diego, CA. The system will be viewable from the taproom and the outside closest to Main Street. For marketing and bulk buying purposes, we will propose a silo to be placed at the South- West side of the subject property.
The taproom would have an “open feel concept.” There would be two long bars, one of which would oversee the production space. There would also be two couch areas. The owners want to make an enclosed beer garden on the property line on Main St. and near this area, there would be space for

USA, MA: Milford's CraftRoots Brewing changing ownership
|
The ownership of Milford's CraftRoots Brewing — the only craft beer maker in town — is changing, but many aspects of the brewery will likely remain familiar, the Patch reported on April 25.
CraftRoots founder Maureen Fabry has entered into an agreement to sell the Industrial Road brewery to a trio of new owners: Michael Laird and Matthew Kelly, both Franklin residents, and Hugh Leahy of Bellingham.
Fabry will remain as the brewer at CraftRoots under the new ownership, and the business will remain at 4 Industrial Road. Maureen and Robin Fabry cofounded the brewery in 2014 in Milford — the first woman-owned brick-and-mortar brewery in Massachusetts.
The new owners, who formed the company CraftRoots Inc., are in the process of securing a farmer-brewery permit from the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, and went before the Milford Select Board Monday to secure a local license to pour beer. CraftRoots operates under a farmer-brewery license currently, and the new owners seeking the brewery will continue to serve beer made with a portion of local ingredients, and will still be able to provide samples and "squealer" and growler fills to-go.
"[T]he overall brewery mission will be expanding to be far more community-invested," Fabry said of the

Canada, ON: Kensington Brewing Company reportedly shutters both of its locations
|
Kensington Brewing Company has reportedly shuttered both of its locations after being acquired by another Toronto brewery, the Canadian Beer News reported on April 24.
BlogTO reports that the brewery’s original location which opened in 2017 in Toronto’s Kensington Market, as well as its second location that was launched three years later in Vaughan, have both closed in recent weeks with no official announcement.
Also never officially announced was the purchase of Kensington by Mascot Brewery, which originally opened in 2015 as a brewpub in Toronto’s Entertainment District, before relocating in 2019 to a production brewery in Etobicoke and a bar and restaurant on King Street West.
A Mascot representative confirmed to BlogTO that Kensington is “closed for renovations and that they have plans to re-open at some point in the future,” although its not clear if that applies to both locations, and if they’ll keep the Kensington name or will be rebranded as Mascot.

France: Diageo receives approval for Euronext Paris delisting
|
Diageo PLC on April 25 said that the delisting of its shares from Euronext Paris has now been approved, the Morning Star reported.
Diageo is a London-based brewer and distiller with brands including Guinness, Baileys, Tanqueray, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Captain Morgan.
Earlier in April, Diageo announced its intention to delist from the Euronext Paris and Euronext Dublin in May.
The announcement came just two weeks after Diageo announced that Chief Executive Officer Ivan Menezes will retire from his role on June 30, with Chief Operating Officer Debra Crew taking the helm from July. Crew is the former CEO of cigarette maker Reynolds American Inc.
It is now expected that the Euronext Paris delisting will take place on May 26.
Diageo explained that the decision has been taken following a review of the trading volumes, costs and administrative requirements related to its listing on Euronext Paris.
It added that the delisting will not have any impact on Diageo's day-to-day operations in France. Further, Diageo's listing on the London Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange will not be impacted.
It is currently anticipated that the Dublin Delisting will take effect on or around May 30.

Turkey: Turkey imposes 130% import tariff on grain imports
|
Turkey imposed a 130% import tariff of some grain imports including wheat and corn, according to a presidential decision published on April 25 in the Official Gazette.
The import duty comes after some European Union countries announced bans on grain imports from Ukraine last week. But some traders said Turkey's move is largely to protect its local agricultural sectors ahead of landmark May 14 elections.
According to a previous regulation, there was no import tax on wheat, barley, rye, oat, corn and sorghum until April 30. With this week’s decision, which will take effect from May 1, a 130% import tariff will be imposed for grain imports.
Turkey's wheat and barley harvest starts in May.
Turkey had reduced import duties on grains and other agricultural goods after the pandemic in late 2020 and stopped them about a year ago.
The government recently announced large energy and infrastructure projects in the run up to the election, which opinion polls show President Tayyip Erdogan could lose after two decades in power.

Japan & South Korea: Asahi to launch Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki Can in South Korea
|
Asahi Group will launch Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki Can in South Korea during May, marking the first time the product will be available outside of Japan, The Drinks Business reported on April 25.
This May will see the launch of one of Asahi’s most sought-after products into the South Korea market, marking the first time that the Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki Can will become accessible outside of Japan.
According to LOTTE Asahi Liquor Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings, the brand will “continue to consider rolling out the product in markets other than South Korea”, depending on its performance there.
This is a big deal because demand for the product was so high in its home country of Japan that Asahi had to limit distribution on a month-by-month basis.
The result of four years of product development, the beer can debuted in Japan in April 2021. A special interior coating produces a fine foam when the can is opened, which Asahi says makes it the “world’s first product that allows consumers to enjoy the same taste as a mug of draft beer served at a bar or restaurant”. The claim was made following Asahi Breweries’ own research, based on the
