USA, NC: Trailside Brewing looking to open in Hendersonville in the last week of May
|
David Schnitzer, the general manager of Trailside Brewing located just off the future Ecusta Trail at 873 Lennox Park Drive at Lennox Station, said he's asked all the time when his newest business venture will be open to the public.
He now has a pretty good idea, he told the Times-News on May 1.
"We are looking to open in the last week of May," the 45-year-old said. "We wanted to be open four months ago... but when you do something custom and do something right, it takes a long time."
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Schnitzer, who spent most of his life in North Georgia, moved to the Hendersonville area 12 years ago. He was the director at Camp Kanuga for nine years and opened Appalachian Coffee Company during that time.
"My wife went to work at First United Methodist Church when we first moved here. We flew right into really being a part of this community. We fell in love with Hendersonville, and I fell in love with creating spaces to make Hendersonville even better," he said. "The businesses that we started are ones that bring people in the community together ... coffee does that; beer does that, and this trail is certainly

Canada, BC: SWIFT Brewing gearing up to launch in Victoria
|
After many years of growth, and establishing itself as one of Canada's premier beer hall chains, the Calgary-based CRAFT Beer Market is gearing up to open its first-ever brewery SWIFT Brewing, Eat North reported on May 3.
Currently nearing completion at 450 Swift St. in Victoria, BC, is promising to be a fun brewery experience for locals and tourists alike all the while overlooking the Victoria Harbour. There still isn't a ton of information available in terms of the brewery's interior design, but a recent release describes it as "old-school charm with modern-day comfort".
“CRAFT has been celebrating the craft beer industry for over 11 years across Canada. It’s pretty simple, we love good beer, and we figured it was time to start making our own.” said CRAFT co-founder PJ L’Heureux in the SWIFT Brewing announcement.
An official opening date is still yet to be determined, but SWIFT Brewing will be giving first-look tours to local media in mid-May, so it feels fair to expect its opening in the days following.

USA: AB InBev CEO says too early to assess impact of Bud Light backlash
|
Anheuser-Busch InBev's CEO said it was too early to assess the impact of a conservative backlash in the United States against Bud Light over a social media promotion of the beer by a transgender influencer, Yahoo Finance reported on May 4.
"With respect to the current situation and the impact on Bud Light sales, it is too early to have a full view," Michel Doukeris told an investor conference call.
"The Bud Light volume decline in the U.S. over the first three weeks of April, as publicly reported, would represent around 1% of our overall global volumes for that period."

USA, NC: UpCountry Brewing Company ceases brewing in Asheville
|
A regional craft beer brewery is amid a downsizing that calls for the closure of one of its taprooms but the enhancement of its second, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported on May 3.
UpCountry Brewing Company has ceased brewing production at 1042 Haywood Road in West Asheville.
John Cochran, who opened the taproom in 2016, is seeking a new owner for the production brewery space.
“I had a granddaughter recently, and it’s been getting to a point where I’m like, ‘Hey, it’s time to have fun with this’ but I don’t want to get completely out of the business, so I’m selling the Asheville brewery,” Cochran said.
Cochran, who’s been in the craft beer industry since 1995, is set on improving the quality of the beer and his quality of life.
He’s downsizing, streamlining and simplifying the business by closing the Asheville brewery and focusing on the beer program for UpCountry’s taproom in Brevard.
The restructure is intended to bring the brewer back to what he loves to do ― make beer ―while providing an opportunity for a novice entrepreneur to move up in the brewing industry.

USA, NS: Spindrift Brewing Company rebrands to Burnside Brewing Company
|
Spindrift Brewing Company has changed its name after selling the Canadian rights to the Spindrift brand to an American sparkling water company, Huddle.Today reported on May 4.
The Dartmouth-based brewery has rebranded to Burnside Brewing Company. It’s a name Jeff Green says reflects the brewery’s “no-nonsense” philosophy.
“We’re selling beer, we’re not saving lives over here. There tends to be a lot of pretense in craft beer but that is not the Burnside Brewery way. It’s the exact opposite,” he says. “At the end of the day, we’re here to work hard, have some fun, and make good beer. And that’s all it really comes down to.”
Green is Burnside’s general manager. He tells Huddle the American Spindrift was looking to expand its market and approached in early 2022 about buying the Spindrift name.
The offer got Green’s hackles up at first, but he says the team ultimately saw the offer as an opportunity.
“Very rarely do you get an opportunity like this, seven years into the establishment or your business, to look and go ‘is this the right name? Is this the right fit? Is it the right feel? Is it where we’re at?’” he explains.
Burnside makes most of its money selling its Toller
