Brewery news USA: Number of non-alcoholic beer drinkers up more than 8 times since 2020, report finds
The number of non-alcoholic beer drinkers in the US has increased more than 8x since 2020, with millennial Dads in the Northeast driving the trend, a new report from international market research firm YouGov finds.

YouGov’s “US Non-Alcoholic Beer Report 2023” details who’s drinking non-alcoholic beer, how they spend their time, their diet and fitness habits, and the beer brands they like most.

The report shows that weekly non-alcoholic beer drinkers surged from 0.6% of the US adult population in 2020, to 5.2% in 2023. More than four in five (81%) non-alcoholic beer drinkers are under the age of 44, and 64% are men. More than half (53%) are parents, compared to just 29% of regular beer drinkers.

Drawing on consumer survey data from YouGov Profiles, the report also finds that:

• 65% of non-alcoholic beer drinkers have more than $1,000 in monthly household disposable (vs 45% of beer drinkers) • Nearly three-quarters of non-alcoholic beer drinkers (72%) work out more than once a week (vs. 50% of beer drinkers) • 49% of non-alcoholic beer drinkers describe themselves as meat-eaters or flexitarians (vs 74% of beer drinkers) • 23% of non-alcoholic beer drinkers live in the Northeast (vs 18% of beer drinkers) • 42% ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Imports of Japanese beer more than double in January-March this year
South Korea's imports of Japanese beer more than doubled on-year in the January-March period, data showed on May 7, marking the highest amount since Tokyo's export curbs against the Asian neighbour in 2019, the Yonhap News Agency reported.

Japanese beer imports came to US$6.62 million in the first quarter, soaring from $2.66 million tallied a year earlier, according to the data compiled by the Korea Customs Service.

The figure was the highest since the $19 million posted in the second quarter of 2019, just before Tokyo announced its export restrictions of key industrial materials to Asia's No. 4 economy.

In July 2019, Japan tightened its regulations on the export of three critical materials used in semiconductors and flexible display production.

This move was widely viewed as a response to the 2018 rulings by the South Korean Supreme Court, which ordered Japanese companies to provide compensation to victims of Japan's wartime forced labor.

The trade row sparked a nationwide boycott of Japanese products, with beer imports diving to just $390,000 in the fourth quarter of 2019.

South Korea's exports of beer products to Japan reached $3.27 million in the January-March period, up 50.4 percent on-year, leading to a trade deficit of $3.34 million in the sector.

Brewery news Namibia: Heineken assures President Geingob over Namibia Bbreweries Limited deal
Namibia’s President Hage Geingob has welcomed Heineken’s takeover of Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), and has reminded the new controlling shareholders to focus on industrialisation and employment-creation, the New Era Live reported on May 8.

Geingob expressed these sentiments on May 7 during a courtesy call by the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group.

The purpose of the visit was to update Geingob on the O&L and Heineken transaction, and to introduce new NBL MD Peter Simons, as well as Roland Pirmez, Heineken’s president for Africa, Middle East and Eastern Europe, and Dolf van den Brink, Global CEO of Heineken International.

“It is good that you are holding this meeting in public, with no secrets. Even as the private company that you are, I’m pleased that you decided to keep me in the loop.

"Of course, we are interested in job creation, and value- addition to be done here. Let’s move the country forward together in terms of industrialising it and creating employment,” the President said.

Heineken NV, which is a Dutch multinational brewing company, visited the Head of State to break down its decision on its acquisition of NBL and Distell Holdings Limited, and on how this transaction will benefit the local economy. Heineken ...More info on site

Brewery news USA: National Black Brewers Association launches in the US
The craft brewing business accounted for nearly $29 billion in beer sales last year, which is nearly one-quarter of the $120 billion beer industry revenue in the United States. But of the nearly 10,000 craft brewers in the country, only about 1% are Black individuals, the Beverage Industry reported on May 8.

A group of like-minded Black entrepreneurs now are setting out ― determined to change this dynamic. At the Annual Craft Brewers Conference this weekend in Nashville, Tenn., they announced the establishment of the National Black Brewers Association. The first-of-its-kind nonprofit organization is committed to the following:

• Promoting the Black brewing community

• Increasing the number of African American individuals in the brewing industry at all levels of production, especially ownership and brew-masters

• Exercising influence by developing and advocating for effective policies

• Fostering historical context, and legacy surrounding African American influence on brewing in the United States.

“The launch of the National Black Brewers Association will create a more inclusive and vibrant beer industry by providing black brewers access to the resources, mentorships, and networks needed to thrive,” said Kevin Johnson, founder of NB2A, in a statement.

To help spearhead the organization, the NB2A has announced the appointment of Kevin Asato, a 30-year veteran of the beverage ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Japan’s Asahi Super Dry beer popularity surges in South Korea
Asahi Japanese beer brand is fast gaining popularity in South Korea. In fact, local retailers are said to be doing everything to get their stocks of the Super Dry draft beer in can, which is currently being imported by Lotte Asashi Liquor Co. Ltd., EconoTimes reported on May 8.

As per The Korea Times, the Asahi draft beers in can is often out of stock in stores due to the very high demand from customers since it was launched on May 1. Officials in the alcohol beverage industry said the high demand was triggered by beer lovers in the country.

The new Asahi draft beer is said to be the first canned beer in the world that, when opened, bursts with a fine foam that tastes like a freshly tap-poured draft beer. This was introduced to the country by Lotte Asashi Liquor, and only a limited number of the canned Asahi Super Dry Draft beer were released upon the launch earlier this month.

The product quickly grabbed the attention of Koreans, especially beer lovers. The product even went viral on social media, and based on the reports, this same thing happened in Japan when it was first released in the market.
