A year after entering the market with contract brewed versions of its initial brands, Meta Brewery has announced the opening of its own bricks-and-mortar facility in Calgary, the Canadian Beer News reported on May 31.

Founded by Mandeep Singh and featuring beers created by brewmaster Andreas Althof, Meta officially started operations in early May, and is “committed to pushing the boundaries of flavour and redefining the art of brewing”.

Meta Brewery products are available at select beer retailers across Alberta and Saskatchewan, with plans to expand distribution into British Columbia, Manitoba, and other provinces later this year. The brewery is not currently open the public, but a taproom and retail store will be opening soon.

Brewery news USA, GA: Scofflaw Brewing Co. expanding operations to include brewery and taproom in Buckhead
Georgia-based Scofflaw Brewing Co. will expand its operations with a planned Buckhead taproom and brewery at Oxton, a retail development at Piedmont Center Atlanta, Yahoo News reported on May 31.

Scofflaw is the first tenant to sign on to the property, according to a release from Ardent Companies, Oxton’s developer.

The brewery will open the spot in Buckhead in 2024, marking its fourth location since being founded in Atlanta in 2015.

Under the current plan for the new location, Scofflaw will have a 5,500 square-foot space, featuring an adjoining courtyard with patio tables that “spill out of the brewery under the canopy of mature trees” on location.

Scofflaw Brewmaster Joe McIntyre said the development would help the company reach more Atlanta customers.

“We can’t wait to be Buckhead’s first brewery and to bring the experience of Scofflaw to an even larger audience of Atlanta beer lovers,” McIntyre said in a statement. “Guests can expect classic fan favorites as well as some fun new beers only available at our Oxton location.”

Scofflaw has three locations in Georgia currently, with two in Atlanta, and a third which opened in Columbus in May.

Jonathan Dubovsky, managing director at Ardent, said adding Scofflaw to Oxton would add to the experience the ...More info on site

Brewery news The Philippines: Philippine billionaire Ramon Ang to increase his stake in San Miguel parent company
Philippine billionaire Ramon Ang will increase his stake to over a third in Top Frontier Investment Holdings, the parent company of food-to-power conglomerate San Miguel, where he is both president and CEO, the Gulf News reported on June 2.

Far East Holdings, which Ang owns, will subscribe to 45 million shares in Top Frontier at 241.42 pesos ($4.32) a share, Top Frontier said in a filing to the stock exchange on June 2. That price, more than double the stock’s closing price on Thursday, June 1, values the acquisition at 10.86 billion pesos and will raise Ang’s interest to around 35 per cent.

“It’s a good investment,” Ang said in a mobile phone message when asked about Far East’s plan to buy the shares, adding that he has “extra funds.” The share purchase, which should be fully paid in cash on or before June 30, will make Ang, who is also president and CEO at Top Frontier, the company’s second-largest shareholder after businessman Inigo Zobel.

Ang’s Far East raised funds last year when it sold its holdings in Eagle Cement Corp. to San Miguel.
