USA, MI: New Mothfire Brewing Co. taproom and flagship brewery to open in Ann Arbor on July 13
|
Raise a glass on July 13 at the new Mothfire Brewing Co. taproom and flagship brewery on Ellsworth Road in Ann Arbor, ClickOnDetroit reported.
Owners Noah Kaplan, David Becker and head brewer Alexis Jorgensen, all Tree Town residents, will open the doors of the 6,000-square-foot space that features seating for 40 inside and an outdoor patio large enough to seat 70 guests.
The taproom and brewery will have 14 beers, three hard seltzer cocktails, tasting flights, non-alcoholic drinks and to-go cans of beer. Visitors will also be able to get wood-fired pizza and unique snacks from the orange Carrozza Pizza bus.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the next stage of Mothfire to life. The core philosophy behind Mothfire is sparking a cultural bonfire over art, music and beer. We’re so grateful for the foundation we built at our Industrial Avenue location and believe that this next space will help us not only continue to brew and package the highest quality beer but also build a place for locals and beer lovers from near and far to gather over food, drink, music, art and more,” said Kaplan in a release.
The brewery will open up its Mothfire Eclipse Memberships starting at 10 a.m

USA, PA: Appalachian Brewing Company to open new location at Carlisle Barracks Golf Course
|
Appalachian Brewing Company on July 11 announced that it will open a new location at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course, The Sentinel reported.
In partnership with the Carlisle Barracks, Appalachian Brewing Company at 1757 will operate in the former 1757 Bar & Grille, the clubhouse that is at the 18th hole of the golf course, which is open to the public.
Joe Hoover, Appalachian Brewing's director of finance, said the new location should open in August.
In the post, the company said it is searching for employees for the new location. Hoover said about 20 workers will be hired.
The Carlisle location will feature elements of the existing locations and will emulate the Silver Spring Township location, Hoover said. The new location will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day.
The food and drink options at the Carlisle location will also be similar to Appalachian Brewing’s existing locations. The current menu features typical pub food such as burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas and desserts. Additionally, the new location will have more than a dozen beers available at any time, along with the seasonal beers that the company produces.
Appalachian Brewing was founded in 1997 with the opening of its Harrisburg location. It has five

USA, CA: Anchor Brewing Co. shuts down after 127 years citing faltering sales
|
San Francisco’s historic Anchor Brewing Co. will shut down and is no longer making beer, the company announced, signaling the end of a 127-year run for the California institution that weathered wars, Prohibition and the great earthquake of 1906, the Los Angeles Times reported on July 12.
The brewery was losing around $10 million per year since COVID-19 “significantly affected” its business, according to parent company Sapporo Holdings Ltd.
“This was an extremely difficult decision that we reached only after many months of careful evaluation,” said Sam Singer, a spokesperson for Anchor Brewing. “We recognize the importance and historic significance of Anchor to San Francisco and to the craft brewing industry, but the impacts of the pandemic, inflation, especially in San Francisco, and a highly competitive market left us with no option but to make this sad decision to cease operations.”
Though production has stopped, the brewery will continue to distribute its remaining stock and operate its on-site taproom through the end of the month.
Anchor Brewing will begin the process of assignment for the benefit of creditors, which is a common move for distressed businesses as an alternative to official bankruptcy proceedings.
The brewery was founded in 1896, when Ernst Baruth and Otto Schinkel

USA, WA: Old Stove Brewing opening new location in Seattle’s Ballard neighbourhood
|
Seattle’s Old Stove Brewing just announced that it is opening a new location in the Ballard neighborhood. It’s a familiar location: the former home of Lagunitas Brewing and, before that, Hilliard’s Beer. The address is 1550 NW 49th St, Seattle, WA 98107. It is right across the street from the back entrance to the beer garden at Bickersons Brewhouse, the Washington Beer Blog reported on July 13.
Old Stove currently operates two locations in Seattle. One is at the Pike Place Market, the brewery and taproom. The other is a taproom and beer garden on Nickerson Street near the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
“As we continue to focus on our Pike Place and Ship Canal locations, we are also looking ahead at how we can produce more beer and reach new audiences,” said a statement from Old Stove Brewing. “So, to support that goal, we recently leased the former Hilliard’s and Lagunitas Brewing Company building in Ballard and intend to turn the space into a production brewery, taproom, and outdoor beer garden.”

USA, AR: Southern Tail Brewing holds groundbreaking ceremony in Little Rock
|
Earlier this year, it was reported that a dog-friendly brewery would be opening in Little Rock at 900 E. 9th Street. The groundbreaking ceremony for this brewing concept took place on July 12, AY Media Group reported.
Southern Tail Brewing is a new Little Rock project intended to take up 11,000 square feet at 900 E. Ninth Street, according to public records. The President of Southern Dog Holdings LLC is Brent Cryder, according to a business license from the Arkansas Secretary of State’s office. The property, which was formerly a Mr. Suds Detailing carwash, is owned by Southern Dog Holdings LLC out of Little Rock. The company also owns properties at 910 E. 9th Street and 924 E. 9th Street.
Brent and Tracy Cryder are experienced brewers and fermenters who have even competed for brewer of the year with Central Arkansas Fermenters in years past.
“We love Arkansas, and we love dogs – and when the opportunity to combine that with our passion for brewing arose, it was the perfect recipe,” Brent Cryder explained in a previous interview. “We seek to provide a welcoming place to eat, drink and play that serves exceptional craft beverages for everyone. Whether you love beer, wine

India: Bira 91 reveals plans for premium Indian beer
|
Delhi-headquartered brewery Bira 91 has detailed how consumer demands for ‘healthier and more experimental’ products are guiding its innovation strategy, while also revealing its plans for a ‘premium’ Indian beer, the Food Navigator Asia reported on July 12.
It recently received funding of USD$10m Japan’s MUFG bank and USD$70m from brewery giant Kirin, which will be channelled towards expanding its production capacity and distribution networks domestically and globally.
Its founder and CEO, Ankur Jain, said that its partnership with Kirin extends beyond funding to capitalise on Kirin’s industry expertise to both “premiumize Indian beer through innovation” and “drive sustainability in the industry.”
On the sustainability agenda, it has been working with Kirin for the last 18months to localise its manufacturing and innovation, as it aims to become India’s first net zero beer brand by 2025. It recently established the B9-Kirin Centre for Sustainable Growth in New Delhi and a net zero brewery in Mysuru.
Since 2019, the company reported a six-fold increase in its production capacity. It recently acquired a new manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh that will commence operations in 2024.
Additionally, it is headlining partnerships within India’s most popular sport – cricket, launching limited-edition beers and merchandise during Indian Premier League (IPL).

South Korea: HiteJinro’s new beer Kelly sells 100 mln bottles in its first 99 days on the market
|
HiteJinro’s new beer brand Kelly sold 100 million bottles in 99 days since its market debut in April, according to the nation’s top beverage company on July 12.
Some 3.3 million boxes of Kelly, HiteJinro’s sixth beer brand and the first lager beer, were sold as of July 11.
The company said the upbeat sales figure equates to 11.7 beers sold every second or 2.3 beers consumed by one person among the total population that is of legal drinking age.
Kelly also set a record with hitting the 100 million mark over the shortest period among the local beer brands. The previous record was owned by Terra, another HiteJinro beer that debuted in 2019.
Kelly's release has buoyed sales of the company's other beer brands. In June, HiteJinro’s beer sales increased by 33 percent compared to sales records from March this year before Kelly was launched. Sales records in the second quarter of this year also went up by 12 percent.
Consumers’ responses at major supermarkets also contributed to Kelly’s rapid growth in sales. According to two major supermarkets' sales data in June, HiteJinro’s market share of domestic beer sales was about 49.6 percent on average, which is an increase of about 7 percent since

Cyprus: June beer deliveries decline by 16.9%
|
Total beer deliveries in Cyprus experienced a significant decline of 16.9 per cent in June 2023, compared to June 2022, according to data released by the Statistical Service on July 12.
However, the increase in beer exports somewhat mitigated the decrease in overall beer deliveries.
Specifically, beer deliveries from breweries amounted to 4,512,414 litres in June, compared to 5,428,911 litres in the same month last year.
Domestic beer deliveries decreased by 19.4 per cent in June 2023, compared to June 2022. In contrast, beer deliveries for exports saw a significant increase of 30.5 per cent.
In terms of litres, beer deliveries for domestic consumption reached 4,149,416 litres in June, down from 5,150,652 litres in June of the previous year.
On the other hand, beer deliveries for exports increased to 362,998 litres compared to 278,259 litres in June 2022.
On a monthly basis, beer deliveries showed a slight increase of 231,132 litres, marking a drop of 5.4 per cent.
The decrease in beer deliveries for domestic consumption suggests a potential decline in local demand, which could be influenced by various factors such as changes in consumer preferences and economic conditions.
However, the growth in beer exports indicates a positive trend for international demand.
