Brewery news South Korea: Oriental Brewery and Hitejinro engaged in a price war amid summer heat wave
South Korea’s Oriental Brewery (OB) and Hitejinro are engaged in a price war amid the summer heat wave, The Korea Times reported on July 19.

OB started the competition last month by offering discounts over 40 percent to buyers of cases of 24 350-milliliter beer cans ― selling them for 19,900 won ($15.63) in large grocery stores. The sales event began on June 15, and sold out all stocks in just nine days. It resumed the offer again on July 5.

"We have been running promotional events every year to satisfy consumers' various demands. Sometimes we bundle six beer cans and sometimes we bundle eight," an OB official said. "This year, our marketing team has decided to make it 24, which is an unprecedentedly large number."

After seeing OB's marketing event go off successfully, Hitejinro also started a discount promotion for its Terra beer products ― also 24 cans with 350-milliliter volume ― starting on June 26. Terra was sold for 19,800 won, 100 won cheaper than OB's discounted price.

"We started the event to meet with intensifying promotional competition for beer products in summer. Price competitiveness is very important for the domestic beer market in winning the overall market share. Even a 100 ...More info on site

Brewery news Russia: Russia hands Danone, Carlsberg assets to nephew of Putin-linked Chechen leader
Russia named the nephew of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and an ally of President Vladimir Putin to head the seized local assets of France’s Danone SA and Denmark’s Carlsberg A/S, Al Arabiya reported on July 19.

Yakub Zakriev, 32, who’s Chechnya’s agriculture minister, is now listed as general director of Danone Russia, according to the official Spark-Interfax disclosure service. He’s a nephew of Kadyrov, the Chechen ruler who’s a protege of Putin and has been repeatedly accused of human rights violations in the southern Russian republic.

The Federal Property Management Agency also appointed Taimuraz Bolloyev to lead Carlsberg’s Baltika Brewing Co., according to a spokesman for the Russian company. Russia’s RBC and Vedomosti newspapers reported the appointments earlier.

The change to the management of Baltika Breweries has “been made without the knowledge or approval by Carlsberg Group,” the company said in an emailed statement on Wednesday. “It is unclear to Carlsberg Group what implications this development will have on the ongoing operations of Baltika Breweries in Russia as well as the current sales process.”

The yogurt maker and the brewer had both been trying to leave Russia. Russia on Sunday seized control of the local subsidiaries of Danone and Carlsberg under a decree Putin ...More info on site

Brewery news Denmark & Italy: Royal Unibrew Group acquires Birra Castelo’s production facility in San Giorgio di Nogaro
The Royal Unibrew Group, a multi-beverage company, announced on July 21 the signing of the agreement for the acquisition of the San Giorgio di Nogaro plant in the province of Udine, from Birra Castello. This strategic operation "contributes to the growth of Royal Unibrew in Italy, allows the company to further expand its activities in international markets and to increase the production capacity of the Group," EFA News reported citing a company press release.

The acquisition of the facility, with an estimated potential production capacity of up to 1 million hectolitres of beer per year, "will significantly enhance Royal Unibrew's production and packaging capacity for cans and glass bottles in Italy,” the company said.

“Equipped with two filling lines, this facility will allow the group to strengthen its presence in Italy, enabling the company to meet the growing demand for its products both locally and internationally.”

The investment in an additional production plant in Italy comes on top of Royal Unibrew's earlier acquisition of Terme di Crodo in 2018. The Terme di Crodo plant, acquired by Campari Group, produces Royal Unibrew's local soft drinks: Lemonsoda, Oransoda and Lemonsoda Energy Activator.

“We are pleased to announce the acquisition of a production plant from ...More info on site
