Brewery news Russia: Guinness soon to be sold in Russia again, state agency claims
Guinness could soon be sold in Russia once again, according to reports stating a Kremlin agency has approved its importation, The Drinks Business reported on September 25.

The reports via Russian state agency Rosaccrediation reveal that the Moscow Brewing Company (MPC) has officially approved the distribution of Guinness in an agreement that will assist with the importation of the stout brand to the sanctions-hit country.

Despite the claims being made, Guinness owner Diageo told The Drinks Business (db) that an about-turn has not been made from the company’s end and Diageo has reiterated its stance on imports to Russia.

A spokesperson for Diageo exclusively told db: “In March 2022, we stopped all imports of our products to Russia and stopped third-party, local production of beer and bottling of spirits. In June 2022, we then took the decision to responsibly wind down our business there and that process is now almost complete. Diageo is not either directly or indirectly importing or selling any products in Russia.”

The situation of Guinness being made available in Russia, despite Diageo’s moves to stop it, has been speculated to have arisen from Russia’s access to parallel imports where a Russian company has a registered declaration issued by the respective ...More info on site

Brewery news USA: Molson Coors loses bid for retrial in Stone Brewing trademark case
Beer giant Molson Coors on September 25 failed to convince a federal judge in San Diego to overturn a jury's decision that the company owes $56 million for violating craft brewery Stone Brewing's trademark rights, Reuters reported.

U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez said that Molson Coors was not entitled to a new trial or a court ruling in its favor, rejecting its arguments that the evidence did not support the verdict.

Benitez also denied Stone Brewing's motion for a new bench trial on its allegations that Molson Coors used the "Stone" name in bad faith, which could have justified additional damages.

Molson Coors spokesperson Rachel Dickens said the company disagreed with the decision and is evaluating its options, including a potential appeal. Representatives for Stone Brewing did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the decision.

Escondido, California-based Stone Brewing sued what was then MillerCoors in 2018, arguing its marketing of Keystone beers that focused on the words "Stone" and "Stones" without "Key" caused consumer confusion and infringed its trademarks.

Stone Brewing told the court that Molson Coors had rebranded Keystone to capitalize on the brewery's consumer goodwill. A jury returned a $56 million verdict for Stone Brewing last March.

Sapporo U.S.A. acquired Stone ...More info on site
