Brewery news USA, FL: Hyperion Brewing Company to close before April
The Hyperion Brewing Company will no longer serve brews for the Springfield community after it officially closes its doors before April, the company announced in a Facebook post, Jacksonville Today reported.

The brewing company, which has been open for 6½ years, said it made the difficult decision to not renew its lease and close as the Hyperion family wants to head in a different direction.

The last day to enjoy the brews and create lasting memories will be March 31. Official plans haven’t been announced, but the company said it will have a blowout celebration before the final goodbye.

Brewery news USA, NY: New K2 Brothers Brewing location opens in Rochester’s Freewill Elementary School
The first time Cathy Contino walked through the doors of the Freewill Elementary School, the national voting age had been lowered from 21 to 18 and the rock band Led Zeppelin was about to release the album that contained the song "Stairway to Heaven," which would come to be the slow dance number of school dances for many years to come, the Democrat and Chronicle reported.

1971 - what a year, and what a different time for the former elementary school teacher and 30 or so of her colleagues who helped open the Wayne County school.

Last weekend, Contino and several other teachers and staff walked through the doors once again, this time for the grand opening of Kyle and Brad Kennedy’s new K2 Brothers Brewing location, which is now open at the former school.

Why, the din in K2’s new tasting and dining area — the school's former cafetorium — almost approached the decibel levels of yesteryear, when excited tykes dug into the square pizzas at lunchtime on a Friday. The band thurlow. performed from the same stage where the fifth-grade band and musically inclined teachers once performed holiday concerts, and its '70s-esque light show was a bonus.

Brewery news USA, WI: Nebraska’s Pals Brewing Company expanding to Wisconsin
Pals Brewing Company has been providing an outlet for food, drinks, and entertainment for almost seven years.

The brewery opened up in late March of 2017 and has been growing since then with more food options, new drinks, and more nights for people to come out and have some fun. Now the party is getting ready to expand in Wisconsin. Pals Brewing Company will be expanding near Wisconsin Dells and for co-owner Paul Oettinger it’s a childhood dream come true, knopnews2.com reported on January 11.

“Three of the founding owners of Pals are from Wisconsin as most people know. We grew up in Wausau which is about an hour-and-a-half from Wisconsin Dells. We spent a lot of our childhood going to waterparks, it’s a resort town, and there are some major resorts with major indoor waterparks, the largest outdoor waterpark in the country I believe is in Wisconsin Dells and it’s a tourist trap. There are about 200,000 visitors a week in the summer so there are a lot of thirsty people,” Oettinger said.

With Pals opening in another state, people in western Nebraska may wonder when is Pals going to open another location in Nebraska. That can only be answered with time.

Brewery news USA, TX: Beerburg Brewing to close for good on January 20
Another Central Texas brewery is closing. This time, it is Hill Country brewpub Beerburg Brewing, which will have its last day of service at 13476 Fitzhugh Road on Saturday, January 20, the Eater Austin reported on January 12.

Owner and founder Trevor Nearburg explained that the brewery has to close because of a bunch of reasons, according to the Instagram post published on January 11. “There’s not a single issue we can point to, but rather a confluence of social, cultural, and economic changes,” which made the brewery become “an unsustainable business.”

There will be a party during its last day, and the post teases discounts and special beers in the coming days. Eater has reached out for more information.

The production room brewed up a variety of brew styles, like the Mexican lager Paz, the East Coast hazy IPA Trail Driver, and the pilsner Pibble. Then there is its Wildcraft series, which made use of foraged ingredients such as Texas persimmons and honeycomb mushrooms.

The on-site restaurant had shifted focus through the years. It started off serving general beer-adjacent foods like cheese boards and sliders when it opened. Then it turned the kitchen into Mexican restaurant Taqueria la Violeta in April 2021, with ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Chemainus’ Riot Brewing Co. closes its doors for good
Wednesday, January 10th was the final ‘last call’ for Chemainus’ Riot Brewing Co, the Cowichan Valley Citizen reported.

The craft brewery in Chemainus Village Square has closed its doors for good, the victim of a variety of financial circumstances that are being felt by countless small businesses across the country. Riot’s C$40,000 repayment of a C$60,000 Canada Emergency Business Account loan it received following COVID was due Jan. 18 and compounded by its landlord only offering a minuscule amount of time from Saturday to Wednesday to pay its bills.

“We fell behind in rent,” said Ralf Rosenke, Riot’s co-owner along with Aly Tomlin.

The pair has been in difficult spots like this before since first conceiving the idea for the brewery in 2009 and then enduring many ups-and-downs before Riot Brewing Co. finally opened its doors in November 2016. Not the least of their extenuating circumstances was the windstorm of December 2018 that cut power to Chemainus for up to five days in places and hammered businesses for much longer to get back on track.

Many patrons who packed the place Tuesday and Wednesday once word leaked out that the brewery was closing felt like drowning their sorrows in their beer and the whole ...More info on site

Brewery news Sri Lanka: Distilleries Company acquires Heineken’s Lankan business
Business tycoon Harry Jayawardena-controlled Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka (DCSL) has acquired the local operations of global beer giant Heineken for Euro 12 million or over Rs. 4.2 billion, the Daily FT reported on January 12.

In a disclosure to the Colombo Stock Exchange, DCSL said it acquired 99.4% of the issued capital of Heineken Lanka Ltd., from Heineken Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. Brewery news The Czech Republic: Budějovický Budvar brews record volume in 2023, expects record sales too
Budějovický Budvar brewed a record 1.865 million hectolitres of beer last year, up 4.3 percent year-on-year, the head of the brewery Petr Dvořák told the ctk news agency.

The brewery expects record sales of more than CZK 3 billion in 2023, Dvořák said.

This year, Budvar is planning to spend CZK 60 million to expand its capacity to gradually increase production to 2.1 million hectolitres.

In 2026, it plans to start upgrading its visitor center and grounds at a cost of hundreds of millions.

Brewery news Thailand: ThaiBev revamps management to boost operating efficiencies
Thai Beverage—controlled by billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi—has revamped its management to boost operating efficiencies as the maker of Chang beer expands across Southeast Asia, Forbes reported on January 11.

The company said it has named Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, son of ThaiBev’s founder and chairman, as group CEO and first vice chairman. Kosit Suksingha has been appointed president and chief operating officer overseeing the group’s Thai businesses, while Prapakon Thongtheppairot assumes the role of president and group chief operating officer managing international operations. Both executives will report to Thapana.

The changes, which will take effect on June 27, will help enhance operational synergies across its key Southeast Asia markets, comprising Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore, the Bangkok-based company said in a regulatory filing. The revamp will also “expedite business development and investment in new markets to support growth of our regional brand portfolio,” it added.

ThaiBev said it has also been leveraging technology to boost its competitiveness and operational efficiencies. “We deployed artificial intelligence and analytics in our value chain and analyzed data gathered to generate insights that helped enhance our distribution network,” Charoen, 79, said in the company’s latest annual report published earlier this week. “We also rolled out automation and robotics in production ...More info on site
