UK: Heineken UK launches new low-alcohol beer Foster’s Proper Shandy
|
Heineken UK has launched a new low-alcohol beer. The new reference is part of the Foster’s range and is called Foster’s Proper Shandy, EFA News reported on February 7.
The launch was planned to help retailers take advantage of the trend of "macro-consumption to nostalgia", offering a British classic like shandy beer, that is mixed with lemonade or ginger, in a convenient format. According to Kantar, an English data and legal advice company, about 40% of adults want to moderate their alcohol consumption: Proper Shandy, stresses Heineken, was designed to satisfy these consumers with an ABV of less than 3%.
With the top shandies and lagers accounting for 4.5% of all consumptions in the horeca sector -we talk about more than 193 million pints, according to Heineken- Foster’s Proper Shandy aims to provide consumers with a quality shandy service at home since it is sold in multiple packs of four or ten cans of 440 ml. The launch of the new beer also marks what Heineken calls the "first innovation for decades in the category of classic lagers, with the aim of encouraging exploration by consumers".
"Foster’s is a well-known and reliable brand,” explains Richard Barnes, marketing manager at Foster’s at Heineken

Russia: Ministry of Agriculture announces new barley, wheat export duties
|
Starting February 7, 2024, Russia's Ministry of Agriculture has declared that the export duty on wheat will be set at 3,804.6 rubles ($41.82) per metric ton. Simultaneously, the export duty for barley is established at 827 rubles ($9.1) per metric ton, and for corn, it is fixed at 1,339.8 rubles ($14.73) per metric ton, as outlined by the Ministry.
These duty rates are calculated based on specific indicative prices per metric ton. For wheat and meslin (a combination of wheat and rye), the indicative price stands at $251.1 per metric ton, while for barley, it is set at $190.9 per metric ton, and for corn, it is determined at $199.1 per metric ton.
The implementation of a floating duty on Russian grain exports dates back to June 2, 2021. Under this system, the Ministry of Agriculture assesses the duty amount on a weekly basis, and the calculated fees are subsequently published on the ministry's website. It's worth noting that duties were initially calculated in dollars until July 1, 2022, after which they were converted into rubles.
This dynamic approach to export duties reflects the fluctuations in global grain markets and allows the Russian government to adapt swiftly to changing economic conditions. The transparency

Turkey & Russia: Turkey and Russia to discuss new mechanism to allow Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea
|
Turkey and Russia will weigh in on a new mechanism to allow Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea when their two leaders meet in the coming days, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on February 4.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit Turkey on Feb. 12 to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a Turkish official previously said, in what will be the Russian leader's first trip to a NATO ally since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
There are efforts to find "new methods" to transport Ukrainian grain to the world markets, Fidan said in an interview with private A Haber television.
"The previous grain deal worked within a certain mechanism, now it has been seen that there is a possibility of going with a different mechanism, and now there are efforts to concretize this possibility," Fidan said, adding that Erdoğan will raise this issue in his meeting with Putin in Turkey.
Ankara has sought to persuade Russia to return to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which Moscow pulled out of in July 2023, a year after it was implemented. The accord was brokered by the United Nations and Türkiye to provide safe passage to exports from Ukrainian ports.
