USA, MI: Heights Brewing to open its doors in Farmington on February 10
|
A highly anticipated brewery is days away from opening its doors.
Heights Brewing, 23621 Farmington Road, is hosting its grand opening Feb. 10, the brewery announced on February 8 on its Facebook page. The restaurant features 24 taps offering a rotating selection of beers, wine, hard cider, mead, hard seltzer, hop water and root beer.
Ryan Kavanagh, who owns the brewery alongside his wife Shawn MacDonnell, told Hometown Life in June 2023 everything will be made on site.
The restaurant's menu, including barbecue, is 100% gluten free. Select beers, along with wine, cider, seltzer and hop water also will be gluten free.
Kavanagh is a longtime home brewer and has experience working with such companies as Draught Horse and Dragonmead. He and MacDonnell are fans of Farmington’s downtown atmosphere and are excited to join its restaurant scene.
The building was formerly known as Page's Food and Spirits. Page’s closed in 2021 after being open for roughly 40 years.

USA, OH: Schnitz Ale Brewery expands with new production facility and tasting room in Strongsville
|
When Fat Head’s moved into its massive Middleburg Heights production facility, it set off a game of craft-beer musical chairs. Eager for more production capacity themselves, the Brew Kettle team decamped from its Strongsville-based brewery for the former Fat Head’s facility on Sheldon Road. That cleared the way for the Djurin family to make a similar jump by staking a claim on the former Brew Kettle space for their two-year-old Schnitz Ale brand. That family, which also operates Das Schnitzel Haus, purchased the property in 2022 and started brewing there this past fall, the Cleveland Scene reported on February 7.
“We were very limited with that 7-barrel brewery in Parma,” explains CEO Igor Djurin. “The right opportunity arrived with the old Brew Kettle production facility, so we jumped on it.”
The move expands the brand’s output capacity 12-fold, going from just 600 barrels per year in Parma to 500 barrels per month in Strongsville. The new Schnitz Ale facility will focus on core beers like the Coach Dunkel, Boozendorf Hazy DIPA, and Classic Kolsch. It will also clear the way for big seasonal releases that will include an Irish red ale, summer shandy, Oktoberfest Märzen and Christmas ale. Thanks to a distribution

USA, TX: Tupps Brewery preparing to transition to a new chapter and new location
|
After more than eight years in the craft beer industry, Tupps Brewery is preparing to transition to a new chapter and new location, the Local Profile reported on February 6.
According to Tupps, after outgrowing the current 17,000 sq. ft. space, the company relocated to the former site of McKinney Grain site. A grand opening event is planned for March 9, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The move entails an extensive renovation of a 120-year-old grain mill, the establishment of a cutting-edge 25,000 sq. ft. production brewery and the creation of a retail craft community within repurposed grain bins. In total, the project will span over 40,000 sq. ft. across a scenic 4-acre landscape.
As Local Profile previously reported, Tupps could make around 12,000 barrels per year, whereas the new production facility will be able to produce between 50,000 and 55,000.
“I’m incredibly excited to be able to produce more beer and get caught up if we need to,” Head Brewer Chris Lewis told Local Profile. “With the new facility, we’ll be able to brew in a day what is currently taking us a full week.”
According to Tupps, the McKinney Grain site allows the brewery to enhance the rustic, distinctive and

USA, VT: Dirt Church Brewing Co. planning second location in Charlemont
|
After blazing a trail at Thunder Mountain Bike Park, Anna Cronin and her partner, Bruce Lindsay, realized Charlemont “is a viable town worth investing in.”
That’s exactly what Cronin and Lindsay are doing by opening a second location of their Dirt Church Brewing Co. Based in East Haven, Vermont, Dirt Church Brewing has been offering alcoholic beverages since 2021, and is now preparing to open a second site at 31 Main St., formerly home to River Cafe.
“We were able to see some of the more remote off-the-beaten-path areas [of Charlemont] and see some of the community members and business members,” Cronin said. “It was really apparent that this is a close and wonderful community ... but there was a lack of an après scene.”
Upon opening, which is expected to be in early spring, Cronin said customers will be able to get their hands on an assortment of “really delicious, high-quality” sour beers, India pale ales and other brews crafted at the company’s Vermont location. Wine, non-alcoholic beers and homemade root beer will also be available to customers.
In addition, Cronin said people can participate in the brewery’s $100 a year Mug Club. Customers receive a 22-ounce mug and “an extra heavy-handed pour

UK: Budweiser Brewing Group predicting a stable year for beer sales
|
Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, a proud part of AB InBev, is predicting a stable year for beer sales – up 0.4% from 2023 with exciting moments and events driving at-home drinking occasions, the Grocery Trader reported on February 9.
The last four years have been marked by tumultuous events, from the pandemic and lockdown to the current cost of living crisis. The result has been a huge shift in consumer drinking behaviours, the most notable being the rise of the Big Night In driven by heightened in-home experiences such as mealtimes. As we head into another year where shopper budgets will likely be squeezed, there’s a huge opportunity for retailers to capitalise on this trend and drive sales.
“While the future is always uncertain, one trend persists – a strong demand for at-home drinking occasions,” says Maria Neves, Head of Category Management for the UK at Budweiser Brewing Group. “To embrace this opportunity and address the growing interest in occasions such as the Big Night In, retailers need to stay abreast of evolving consumer demand. At Budweiser Brewing Group, we’re committed to working closely with our retail partners to help them understand their shoppers better and adjust their stock to suit these

Ukraine: Ukraine’s spring sowing area expected to be the same as last year
|
Ukraine expects its 2024 spring sowing area to be the same as last year, though it could see a slight decrease in the worst case scenario, Agriculture Minister Mykola Solsky told Reuters on February 9.
Ukraine is a major global grain and oilseeds producer but its harvests have decreased since Russia invaded and occupied significant swathes of territory. The war, now in its 24th month and with no end in sight, has driven up global grain prices and disrupted supplies, especially to poorer countries.
"I don't expect any drastic changes in terms of sowing area. If the sowing area is smaller, it will be a very insignificant decrease," Solsky said in an interview, providing the first official outlook for the 2024 sowing season.
Ukrainian farmers sowed a total of 12.75 million hectares of spring crops for the 2023 harvest, including 5.7 million hectares of various grains.
The acreage included 4 million hectares of corn, 5.3 million hectares of sunflower and 1.78 million hectares of soy beans.
Solsky said farmers had sown a smaller area of winter wheat last autumn due to poor weather and this could force them to increase the area sown to spring wheat. Ukraine sowed 280,000 hectares of spring wheat last year.
