Brewery news USA, WI: Vennture Brew Co. taking over Biloba Brewing facility in Brookfield
Milwaukee’s Vennture Brew Co., 5519 W. North Ave., is taking over the Biloba Brewing facility in Brookfield, according to co-owner Simon McConico, OnMilwaukee reported on February 12.

Speaking on the Badger Beer Hour webcast, hosted by Milwaukee Magazine's Chris "Wisconsin Beer Baron" Drosner and Madison’s Greg “Daddy Porter" Washington, last Friday, McConico said that he and his partner Rob Gustafson are buying the brewery and taproom at 2970 N. Brookfield Rd.

The current Biloba owners, Gordon and Jean Lane are retiring, and a post on the brewery's social media noted that it will close for good on Feb. 17.

Gordon Lane started out homebrewing and Biloba first opened in a smaller building in 2014, moving to its current spot in February 2017.

Vennture, which brews both coffee and beer, opened in the Washington Heights neighborhood in 2018.

According to McConico, the sale is closing this week and Vennture aims to have the Brookfield taproom open by St. Patrick’s Day.

They plan to do some minor work in the taproom, such as painting, new signage and rearranging furniture before opening.

He said it's still unclear whether or not it will open with both beer and coffee or just beer to start.

"There's a lot of questions, on top of ...More info on site

Community Beer Works will own all Thin Man recipes, branding, and the Chandler Street Brewhouse.

Brewing production will be split between the C.B.W. on 7th Street in Buffalo and Chandler Street.

After 10 years, Blue Blaze Brewing is closing its taproom doors in March, WSOC-TV reported on February 12.

In a heartfelt note to customers, the owner shared the news with a “profound sense of disappointment,” saying they wish the place “could have continued to be available to us in the future.”

They say they hope to find a new location in the future.

Blue Blaze is along the greenway in the Seversville neighborhood just outside of Uptown in Charlotte.

Brewery news USA, SC: High Score Brewing Co. already open in Charleston
Tony Williams used the pandemic shutdown to sharpen his home-brewing skills. Like other Charleston locals who jumped into home brewing during that time, Williams’ hobby turned into much more when he and Chris Shelley began discussing their dream brewery, the Post and Courier reported on February 12.

The beer program would offer easy drinking ales, dark stouts and everything in between, while the setting would be family friendly with an arcade section and console games like Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64.

That’s exactly what patrons will find at High Score Brewing Co., which opened at 8120 Windsor Hill Boulevard, Suite 203, in December.

The brewery is 5,000 square feet, 4,000 of which are dedicated to the taproom, where games are free for customers. While parents are sipping on a Praise the Sun cream ale or Super Smash IPA, Williams hopes they can share the nostalgia for their favorite childhood games with their kids.

High Score Brewing Company is now open off of Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston. The brewery brings board, arcade, and retro console gaming to their warehouse space where gaming-themed beers are on tap.

“We will eventually have anything anyone could desire,” Williams said, discussing the beer program. “We like to ...More info on site

Brewery news Canada, BC: Twin City Brewing moving into historic Port Alberni train station
After a long Request for Proposals (RFP) process, the city of Port Alberni announced on Feb. 7, 2024 that local business and brewery Twin City Brewing has won the lease for the train station, the Campbell River Mirror reported.

Twin City Brewing—which was last year’s BC Brewery of the Year winner—opened its first location on Margaret Street back in 2017. Owner Aaron Colyn says the Margaret Street location will continue to provide a casual neighbourhood taproom experience, while the new train station location will provide “a more dining-focused counterpart.” There are no plans to brew in the new space.

“We can still provide a casual, after-work brewpub experience at our Margaret Street location,” said Colyn. “The train station will be a little more dining-oriented. It’s an exciting area of town,” he added, referring to the city’s waterfront. “It makes sense for us to do something here.”

Work will begin on the dining area in spring 2024.

The city-owned Port Alberni Train Station is a registered heritage building that was originally constructed in 1911. Over the last two years, the city has invested in seismic upgrades and added a new roof to the building, as well as some exterior modifications to allow the construction of ...More info on site

Brewery news Nepal: Government tightens rules for restaurants operating microbreweries
Nepal’s government has tightened the rules for restaurants operating microbreweries, The Kathmandu Post reported on February 12.

The Department of Industry amended the standards to establish microbreweries by restaurants last Thursday, February 1. The amended rule includes a new condition that restaurants should have a seating capacity of at least 200 people to operate microbreweries.

In September 2015, the Industrial Promotion Board under the Industry Ministry allowed restaurants to establish microbreweries for the first time. It allowed restaurants with a seating capacity of at least 20 people to operate microbreweries.

The new policy, however, has allowed such microbreweries to produce up to 3 million litres of beer annually, from an earlier limit of 2.5 million litres.

A microbrewery is a small unit that produces beer in limited quantities for captive consumption and is found mostly in establishments such as hotels and restaurants located in tourist hotspots.

In 2015, the government had for the first time decided to issue licences for operating microbreweries demanded by tourism entrepreneurs.

The amended policy has set a slew of conditions for establishing microbreweries in restaurants.

According to the standards, restaurants intending to open a microbrewery should have an area of 2,400 square feet, with a brew house area of 1,200 square feet, ...More info on site
