Drive down Route 9 in Cape May County and you will see an old mini golf course and a lighthouse.
Coming in May you'll be able to stop in have a beer and play some golf at Meyers Lighthouse Brewing Company at 2576 N. Route 9 in Ocean View, Cat Country 107.3 reported on April 8.
Located on Rt. 9 in the town of Ocean View, a quarter mile north of Sea Isle Blvd., Meyers Lighthouse Brewing will feature a taproom as well as outdoor seating and a mini golf course. The brewery will serve a variety of beer styles such as hazy IPAs, sours, stouts, and more. Meyers Lighthouse Brewing will focus on bringing exciting, high-quality beer to the Ocean View area and contributing to the vibrant culture of the community.
It adds to the great brewery scene in Cape May County, joining places like Ludlam Island Brewery, Slack Tide Brewing Company, Whale Tale Brewing Company, Bucket Brigade Brewery, Behr Brewing, Cold Spring Brewery, Cape May Brewing Company, Anglesea Ale Works and MudHen Brewing Company.
The new brewery will feature 12 taps in the tasting room and ample outdoor seating, it also have a local brewer per the social media announcement.

USA, TX: Buckstin Brewing Co. cuts the ribbon on new Beaumont location
|
Confetti burst overhead on Tuesday, April 4 morning as Gabrielle Blanco officially cut the ribbon on the much awaited Buckstin Brewing Co. Beaumont location, MSN reported.
A line of customers had formed before the doors officially opened and within minutes of finding a seat at the bar or seating areas, wait staff were taking orders and serving up the first official brews.
The space in the West Park Marketplace plaza more than doubles that at their original location on Boston Avenue and added a number of jobs, bringing their total staff to roughly 75, Blanco said. It also allows the brewery to broaden their menu items to include a wide assortment of pizzas and bring the brewing room to a new level of craft beer production.
Unique decor heavy on an outdoor theme and personal history fill the walls, and patrons can watch the brewers at work through the large open windows at the brewery’s entry.
Buckstin in Nederland will remain open, and the Beaumont location hours will be open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

USA, MN: Warrior Brewing Company changing ownership in May
|
A veteran owned brewery in Duluth will be staying open after announcing they would be closing in April on their social media, Fox21Online reported on April 9.
Warrior Brewing Company located in the Lincoln Park Craft District made the announcement in January asking if anyone would be interested in buying the business.
A couple, Ben and Mary Anderson are now the soon to be owners of the brewery. The couple is known to the area and owns Eddie’s restaurant in Superior. Ben says the business will have the same mission as well as serving great craft beer.
“Going forward I know, we’re excited and hope to bring a lot of awareness to Warrior. You know their mission, their story, kind of their whole idea we really like. It’s you know veteran owned, founded supports a lot of veteran causes but then also first responder,” said Ben Anderson, new owner of Warrior Brewing.
During the summer the brewery will host food trucks every day and offer live music on the weekends hoping to get more people visiting.

Canada, BC: New liquor policy coming to breweries, wineries
|
The B.C. government has approved a series of regulatory changes it says is designed to improve the experience of people visiting wineries, breweries and distilleries across the province, the Times Colonist reported on April 5.
The new measures allow people to consume liquor, beer and wine samples while on a guided tour, and buy packed liquored sales in more places. They also allow manufacturers to provide more customized sampling, while selling and promoting products in picnic areas.
"The changes we are making will create better experiences for visitors of wineries and liquor manufacturers across the province, helping them — and all of B.C. — to be a more competitive and desirable destination for visitors," Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General, said in a statement.
Wineries are now permitted to serve multiple flights of up to 284 millilitres per patron per day, while breweries and cideries can offer up to 682 millilitres per person per day. Anyone visiting a distillery can now receive up to 85 millilitres (or three ounces) of samples per day.
Ken Beattie, executive director of the BC Craft Brewers Guild, said the new rules came following industry feedback and will benefit tourism across the province.

China’s Tsingtao 0.0 Non-Alcoholic Beer has joined the burgeoning zero-alcohol beer category in the US to broaden the reach of the brand, The Drinks Business reported on April 8.
Imported by Paulaner USA, the non-alcoholic variant of the beer brand is being positioned to complement the popular Tsingtao Premium Lager in a bid to attract more health-conscious consumers due to each bottle containing just 63 calories.
Speaking about the launch, Paulaner USA president and CEO Steve Hauser said: “With the launch of Tsingtao 0.0, we are tapping into consumers who are reaching for non-alcoholic drinks in their bid to lower their caloric intake. Tsingtao 0.0 provides a great tasting experience, and we’re confident that consumers will enjoy it.”
Tsingtao has experienced “tremendous” growth in the US over the past two years, according to Hauser and the 0.0 beer “provides a citrus flavour with slight malty notes at the back end of the taste experience and is perfect for a variety of beer drinking occasions”.
Tsingtao 0.0 has been brewed and fermented with a “gentle alcohol removal and blending process” to create a beer that is “no more than 0.03% ABV”.

Vice chairman of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI) Nguyen Hoang Hai said that paying additional tax will erode Vietnamese beverage makers’ competitive advantages, VietNamNet reported on April 8.
A draft proposal to increase special consumption tax on alcoholic beverages may hurt Vietnam beverage industry's ability to compete on their home turf, putting the entire supply chain at risk, said industry insiders.
Lam Du An, deputy director-general of the Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO), said since 2021, the company's revenue has decreased by 10-15 per cent compared to 2019. The company reported a 7 per cent decrease in revenue in 2022 and an 11 per cent decrease in revenue in 2023, with a pre-tax profit decrease of 23 per cent.
An said: "Input costs and raw materials including prices for hops, cans and bottle caps, various auxiliary materials, and transportations, among others, have increased significantly. Producers are facing input cost increases of 20 per cent-40 per cent while consumption demand has been in sharp decline and prices cannot be increased further."

UK: Stout consumption up 23% between 2021 and 2022

Stout, sometimes thought of as the drink of older men in pubs, is finding a diverse audience – and it’s not just Guinness that’s boosting sales, The Guardian reported on April 4.
The beer, part of the ale family and usually a very dark colour, is attracting a range of consumers, including young women, drawn in by new flavours and lower alcohol options.
The consumption of stout globally, by volume, increased by 11% between 2021 and 2022, according to drinks market analysts IWSR. In the UK the growth over that period was 23%, making it one of the largest stout volume markets globally alongside Nigeria, the US and Ireland.
Roisin Vulcheva, head of beer insights at IWSR, said: “A lot of growth in stout is coming from Europe, and momentum is especially being driven by an expanding consumer base. People also show interest in 0% varieties. Innovation is also being seen in the on-premise with stout served on draught.”
Waitrose said stout sales had increased by 29% compared with the same time last year. It also noted a higher split of women buying the beer: 61.3% of the volume was bought by women and 37.5% by men.

Nigeria: Nigerian Breweries announce yet another price hike

In what seems to have become a monthly ritual, the Nigerian Breweries Plc has once again announced a hike in the prices of its products that would take effect from April 9, 2024, after it had made similar announcements in February and March 2024, This Day Live reported on April 7.
A price review notification the Nigerian Breweries issued on April 5 to all direct customers in its west zone notified them “of the price review for some of our SKU’s, which takes effect from Tuesday, April 9, 2024.”
The notification, which was signed by its Zonal Business Manager-West, Mr. ‘Lekan Awosanya, also said that “all open orders in our system at 00.00 hours on April 9, 2024, will be invoiced at the new prices.
“For further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact your regional business manager.”
The latest price review would affect 45 products that are manufactured by the company and also cut across its alcoholic and nonalcoholic products such as beer, malted, and other drinks.
The affected brands included Export, Goldberg, Gulder, Heineken, Life, More Lager, Star, Star Lite, Star Radler, and Tiger beers. Others are Amstel Malta, Maltina, Hi Malt Fayrouz products, etc.

Kenya: Keroche Breweries risk losing licence
|
Keroche Breweries, associated with Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja, and London Distillers are among 24 alcohol manufacturers that could lose their licences in 21 days if they do not comply with the government’s listed guidelines to continue operating, Business Daily reported on April 5.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki said through a statement on April 5 that only three manufacturers and distillers of second-generation alcohol out of 29 have been allowed to resume production, subject to meeting specific requirements outlined to each of them.
The three are Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL), Savanna Brands Company Limited, and Patiala Distillers Kenya Limited.
For KWAL, the CS said that verification and approval of the model of the transmitter for offloading and dispatch flowmeters was approved, and for Savanna Brands Company Limited, the vetting agencies were certified with their production of valid calibration certificates of GC machine and services done on them; and payment of the standards levy.
Only two out of 29 distillers and manufacturers of second-generation alcohol have passed the vetting by a multi-agency team and are allowed to continue with production.
The two companies include Kenya Nut Company Limited, and UDV.

Ukraine: Ukrainian brewers fight to establish identity with new style of beer

In the months following Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, US businesses were eager to show support for the besieged nation by flying flags of blue and gold. Few industries were more enthusiastic than craft beer. The bright hues were emblazoned on tap handles, and beers named Brew for Ukraine, Resist and Putin Huylo (a Ukrainian insult) were brewed to raise awareness of the war and relief funds for its victims. Some brewmasters even produced the native Ukrainian golden ale, Bloomberg reported on April 6.
But when drinkers curious to learn more about this hazy, malt-forward wheat ale looked to enthusiast site Untappd, the US-based Brewer’s Association or even the international Beer Judge Certification Program, they found something odd: Ukrainian golden ale didn’t officially exist.

A beer writer and Ukraine’s first certified cicerone (beer sommelier), she has been working with Ukrainian brewers and industry professionals in the US, the UK and the rest of Europe to gain worldwide recognition for Ukrainian golden ale.
