The family-owned, 4,300-square-foot brewery is located at The Corner Center at Hayden Road and 82nd Street, just east of Scottsdale Airport.

Brewery news USA, PA: Artifact Brewing to open its doors in Doylestown on April 26
Doylestown is getting a new brew pub this week when Artifact Brewing opens at 19 West Court Street. The building was formerly the home of a liquor store, TAPinto reported.

The building has been gutted and outfitted with a long bar on the left that has 16 beer taps. There’s plenty of seating at high-top tables surrounding the bar and a garage-style door that opens up onto a small patio in the front of the building.

The back half of the building will house Artifact’s brewing operations.

Artifact has one other location in Hatboro. The Doylestown location is about twice as big as the Hatboro location, so it will allow Artifact to ramp up production.

Artifact won’t have a kitchen serving food, but customers will be welcome to bring food in from neighboring restaurants and businesses.

The grand opening will take place on Friday, April 26, at 4 p.m.

Brewery news USA, MI: Saunders Point Brewery getting ready to launch in Gladstone this summer
For nearly a year, the space on the eastern end of the Rialto Center on Gladstone’s Delta Avenue has been undergoing serious work: plaster covering 20-foot brick walls was painstakingly chiseled off, flooring was removed, walls came down. There’s still a good amount to be done, but 1000 Delta Ave. is well on its way to becoming Saunders Point Brewery, thanks to collective efforts from the community. Owner Jake Mills hopes to have beer flowing from taps at some point this summer, the Daily Press reported on April 23.

Mills, who works as an electrician at the Billerud mill in Escanaba, began homebrewing after he and friends Chris Amis and Tom Kidd took a Brew 101 class at Bay College.

“The teacher of the original class we had was one of the brewers at Upper Hand,” explained Mills, referring to the Bells subsidiary that produces and serves beer near the Delta County airport. “He actually said, ‘hey, there’s gonna be a bartending job opening up; just come, get come experience.'”

Getting in at Upper Hand provided Mills the opportunity to work alongside brewers and “pick their brains,” he said.

A proud moment came when he brought something he’d concocted to a homebrew competition hosted ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NJ: Wander Back Beerworks joining the craft beer scene in Vineland
Wander Back Beerworks is joining the craft beer scene in Vineland, the Courier Post reported on April 22.

It will become the second brewery in Cumberland County, joining Glasstown Brewery in Millville.

Wander Back Beerworks was founded by three veterans in the brewing industry, all with previous ties to Cape May Brewing Co.

They are Christopher Henke, a founder of Cape May Brewing; Brian Hink, its original head brewer; and Justin Vitti, former general manager of sales and distribution.

All have a combined 33 years of experience in brewing and distribution.

Wander Back plans initially to self-distribute through Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties, in late May, prior to having a tasting room or brewery.

While they continue to work with Vineland to secure a downtown location, they have been brewing out of Hidden Sands in Egg Harbor Township.

“I’m a builder,” Henke said in a press release. “And I wanted to get back to building something new. Cape May was great, and I’m proud of what I helped build there, but it was built. It was time to move on."

Wander Back is planning to release two beers at launch: Wander Back Lager and Perfectly Cromulent IPA. A third, Future Proof Pils, will follow closely ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TX: Urban South Brewery’s Houston location announces its closing
Fans who enjoy high-quality, quenchable IPAs, fruited sours and fun experimental beers may be upset to learn that Urban South Brewery’s Houston location has announced its closing.

Urban South posted the announcement through its social media accounts Friday, April 19.

“It is with a bittersweet feeling that we announce the closing of our beloved Houston taproom starting today,” read the announcement. “While we bid farewell to our cozy space, rest assured that Urban South beers will continue to be brewed out of the original New Orleans location and still be readily available across Houston through distribution channels.”

Urban South Founder and CEO Jacob Landry told Chron Friday that the Houston location closed because the situation with its Sawyer Yards landlord Lovett Commercial became untenable. Lovett has been building apartments on its former parking lot space, plus directly across Oliver Street.

“We’ve been in the middle of a construction zone for well over a year,” Landry said. “We were hoping to push through and work something out with them, but there was just not any steam left.”

Landry said Urban South “lost a lot of money” with the Houston location, though they hoped things would turn around in the future.

“It may end up being a ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NJ: Wander Back Beerworks to join South Jersey craft beer scene in late May
A new brewery in Vineland is joining the South Jersey craft beer scene, 973espn.com reported on April 22.

The Vineland-based company Wander Back Beerworks will start in late May with two beers, Wanderback Lager and Perfectly Cromulent IPA and will begin self-distributing beer in Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland and Gloucester counties before opening its tasting room.

A third beer, Future Proof Pils is already in the plans.

The names who are starting Wander Back may be familiar to people in the local brewery scene with three veterans of the brewing industry. One of the founders of Cape May Brewing Company, Christopher Henke, along with Cape May's original head brewer, Brian Hink, and Justin Vitti, Cape May's former general manager of sales and distribution.

The trio brings a combined 33 years of experience in brewing and distribution to Cumberland County.

“I had no plans to go back to brewing,” Henke said in a press release. “It was never in my vision to open another brewery. But when these guys came to me, it was like Doc and Marty asking me to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance – you just don’t say no.”

Until they are able to get a tasting room in Vineland, Wander Back ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MI: Gluten-free Brewery Nyx announces closure

Brewery news Denmark & Ukraine: Carlsberg to invest US$50.5 million in Ukrainian business
The Danish Carlsberg Group will invest about UAH 2 billion (approx. US$50.5 million) in Ukrainian business, Ukrainska Pravda reported on April 24 citing Carlsberg Ukraine’s press service following the results of a meeting of Carlsberg Group’s CEO Jacob Aarup-Andersen with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Carlsberg is one of the largest Danish investors in Ukraine, owns three breweries in the country and is one of the largest taxpayers, paying over UAH 3 billion (US$75.8 million) in taxes and fees annually.

"Your activity in the Ukrainian market is impressive. With your investments, you set an example for other partners and investors," Zelenskyy said during the meeting.

The president also expressed confidence that the cooperation between Ukraine and Denmark, based on mutual respect and common values, would develop further and grow stronger.

Aarup-Andersen also visited Kyiv brewery PJSC Carlsberg Ukraine, where a new production line was established last year, and expressed his gratitude to the Ukrainian counterparts for their resistance in the conditions of the war.

Brewery news South Africa: Craft brewing market blossoms into a mature and vibrant industry
Over the past decade, South Africa has witnessed a remarkable transformation in its craft brewing scene, IOL reported on April 22.

Craft brewing is differentiated from high-volume beer manufacture through the products it offers, predominantly boutique in nature, offering a variety of flavours and using high quality ingredients to produce a premium product.

Craft brewers interpret traditional beer styles using innovative ingredients and techniques to develop new styles.

Importantly, craft brewers, are majority South African-owned and operated.

What started as a niche market has now blossomed into a mature and vibrant industry, reflecting not just a change in consumer preferences but also a deep-rooted cultural shift towards appreciation for quality, variety, and innovation in beer.

This maturation of the craft brewing market is a milestone in South Africa's beer industry, as it shows an increased appetite for local flavours, craftsmanship, and community engagement.

It also shows how embedded craft brewers have become in their local economies and have become vital employers and job creators.

With just over 200 craft breweries there is hardly a region in South Africa without its very own local brewer. Whether you find yourself at Zwakala Brewery in the forests of Magoebaskloof, or at the Kimberley Diamond Brewing Company, or in the Garden ...More info on site

Brewery news Russia: Russian government increases custom duty on beer imported from ‘unfriendly’ countries
The Russian government has increased the customs duty on beer imported from countries it considers "unfriendly," setting the new rate at approximately 11 cents per litre. Moscow says this move supports local beer producers. Meanwhile, a Russian politician has described this measure as a significant counter-sanction against Western countries, MSN.com reported on April 20.

The hike in the beer import duty, as reported by the state-run news agency TASS and citing the Ministry of Industry and Trade, raises the charge from 4 cents to about 11 cents per litre. "The decree also raises rates of customs duties on beer from unfriendly countries. In particular, the duty will grow from 0.04 euro at present to 0.1 euro per liter (10 eurocents). The share of these products in the general consumption structure is not above 5%," the statement detailed. The government officially endorsed this decision through a resolution.

In addition to beer, the tariffs on vermouth, sparkling wines, and other wines from these countries have been increased to 20 percent of the cost, but not less than $1.5 per litre, as disclosed by the independent newspaper Kommiersant.

Additionally, TASS revealed that import duties for certain goods, such as finished cocoa products, coats, wallpapers, and zippers ...More info on site

Barley news EU: Grain imports in 2023-24 decline by 23%
From the beginning of the current season to March 27, the EU countries imported 25.0 million tonnes of grain, which is 23% less than in the same period last season, UkrAgroConsult reported on April 24.

As in the previous season, the EU imports soft wheat, barley and corn mainly from Ukraine. In the current season, Ukraine supplied 5.1 mln tonnes of soft wheat, or 70% of the total imports of this crop, 9.1 mln tonnes of corn (67%) and 0.7 mln tonnes (48%) of barley. The largest supplier of durum wheat is Turkey – 700.2 thousand tonnes (34%).

Russia is among the main suppliers of wheat, barley, rye and sorghum to the European Union. From the beginning of the current season to March 27, the EU imported from Russia 437.1 thousand tonnes of durum wheat, 318.7 thousand tonnes of soft wheat, 273.0 thousand tonnes of corn, 181.5 thousand tonnes of rye, 59.1 thousand tonnes of barley and 2.3 thousand tonnes of sorghum.

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia confirms beer price increases starting this month
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, the locally-listed unit of the Danish brewer, confirmed the price increases for its beer products starting this month, The Edge Malaysia reported on April 24.

The company’s priority is to preserve margin, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia managing director Stefano Clini told at a press conference after the company’s annual general meeting. The last time the company raised the prices of its beers was in 2022, he noted.

“There was a price increase,” Clini said. “The details, however, we cannot talk about.”

Last month, The Petaling Jaya Coffeeshop Association chairman Keu Kok Meng said retailers received official notices of the price increases from Carlsberg and Dutch rival Heineken by around 5%.

Carlsberg’s full-year net profit was rose 5.11% to a record high of RM333.24 million in the financial year ended Dec 31, 2023 (FY2023) against RM317.05 million a year ago, mainly in the absence of the RM21.6 million prosperity tax incurred last year.

Full-year revenue however declined 6.28% to RM2.26 billion compared with RM2.41 billion in FY2022, dragged by lower sales on the back of softer market sentiment and inflationary pressures.

At 2.40pm, the share price of Carlsberg rose six sen or 0.3% to RM18.46, bringing the brewer a market capitalisation of RM5.64 billion.

Brewery news Montenegro: Montenegrin brewer Trebjesa records drop in net profit in 2023
Montenegrin brewer Trebjesa recorded a net profit of just under 550,000 euro ($533,900) in 2023, down from 1.3 million euro in 2022, local media reported.

The company’s revenue came in at 33 million euro last year, representing an increase of 11% on the previous year, media portal Investitor.me reported on April 22.

Trebjesa, based in Niksic, in central Montenegro, is part of North American brewing company Molson Coors and is the largest Montenegrin brewer. It had 212 employees at the end of last year, six fewer compared to 2022.

Molson Coors owns a license for the Niksic beer brand, which it produces in Apatin for the Serbian market and in Zagreb for the Croatian market, Investitor.me said.
