Brewery news USA: Bud Light sales still falling as Modelo, Coors fight to keep their gains
The dust is settling, and results from the beer giants are coming in, Yahoo Finance reported on May 9.

Earlier this week, Bud Light parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev posted better-than-expected Q1 results, a year after an advertising campaign kicked off a boycott starting April 2023.

Yet, Constellation Brands and Molson Coors have been fighting to hold on to their gains from Bud's losses while looking for more room to grow.

Revenue for Anheuser-Busch jumped 2.6% to $14.55 billion from higher prices, but volume sold dropped 0.6%, though it was less than Wall Street anticipated. The largest decline came from North America, where volume dropped 9.9%, largely due to sales of Bud Light.

Sales to retailers and wholesalers were down 13.7% and 10.7%, respectively, in the US.

"We've lost a whole generation of hardcore Bud Light shoppers," Bump Williams of Bump Williams Consulting told Yahoo Finance. "It's going to take us at least 10 years to try and recapture what we lost in one year."

Williams said AB InBev will have to "buy" shoppers. As Gen Zs grow up and turn 21, they'll turn to brands that made an impression on them in their younger years.

"They're not going to remember any of that stuff [regarding the boycott]. ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, NY: Lucky Hare Brewing set to take over new location at the Seneca Harbor Marina
The building that is formerly the site of Horseheads Brewing at the Seneca Harbor Marina was discussed at the Schuyler County Industrial Development Agency meeting on May 8, WENY reported..

The IDA voted in December 2023 to end the lease with the former tenant, Horseheads Brewing, and grant a new lease to another brewery, Lucky Hare.

IDA Chief Financial Officer and CEO Judy Cherry told the board on May 8 that a lease with Lucky Hare Brewing should be executed within 48 hours. Once that is complete, Cherry said it would allow the Lucky Hare to finish renovations of the space. A potential opening date is not yet set.

"We are all but done with the lease," said Cherry. "[The] insurance the county had some things they wanted included so we will work through that with Lucky Hare. So they are working through that, so we should have an executed lease probably within 48 hours. "

The building at the Seneca Harbor Marina was previously rented and operated by Horseheads Brewing from June 2022 through October 2023, which included an initial one-year sublease, and an amended six-month sublease extension that was signed in May 2023.

The Schuyler County IDA did not grant Horseheads Brewing ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CO: Timnath Beerwerks agrees to purchase Snowbank Brewing
Timnath Beerwerks has reached an agreement to purchase Snowbank Brewing, owners of the two breweries said in an email on May 9.

The acquisition of Snowbank Brewing, 225 N. Lemay Ave., will allow Timnath Beerwerks to increase its production capacity to meet growing demand and streamline operations for both brands, the owners said in a joint announcement.

The agreement is expected to be finalized this summer, pending license transfer, and involves acquisition of the Snowbank Brewing brand and all other assets.

“This is an exciting move for us and our team,” Timnath Beerwerks co-owner Pete Meyer said in the news release. “We look forward to expanding into a new market and bringing our beer to a new audience.”

Snowbank Brewing, located near the intersection of Lemay and Lincoln avenues, will temporarily close “in the coming weeks” for renovations. Details on the reopening, name changes, beer options and other details will be shared on the social media pages of the respective breweries, the news release said.

A coffee shop and espresso bar within Snowbank Brewery, The Morning Grind, closed in March after just five months of operation.

Snowbank Brewery, best known for its Bungalow IPA, Snow Juice New England IPA and Colorado Red, opened in August 2014.

Whisky news World: Beam Suntory rebrands as Suntory Global Spirits
Suntory’s liquor arm, Beam Suntory, has rebranded as Suntory Global Spirits to reflect its “evolution” as a global leader in spirits and ready-to-drink cocktails. The move comes as the company marks a decade in its spirits business since acquiring Beam Inc in 2014, Inside FMCG reported on May 9.

Since its establishment, the company’s worth has grown from $3.8 billion (US$2.5 billion) to $8.3 billion (US$5.5 billion) and expanded to include more than 6000 employees worldwide.

Greg Hughes, president and CEO at Suntory Global Spirits, said the rebrand establishes the company’s global leadership and premium position in the market.

“Becoming Suntory Global Spirits is the natural next step in our evolution,” he concluded.

Suntory Group’s product range includes premium spirits, beer, wine, ready-to-drink beverages, teas, bottled water, and soft drinks.

The brand is known for Japanese whiskies Yamazaki, Hibiki, and Hakushu, as well as American spirits Jim Beam and Maker’s Mark. Suntory also has beer, wine, and popular non-alcoholic brands like Orangina, Lucozade, and Ribena. It also offers health and wellness products like Sesamin EX.

Brewery news Malaysia: No significant drop in beer consumption expected as a result of price hike
No significant drop in beer consumption is expected as a result of the recent price hike imposed by Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd and Heineken Malaysia Bhd, The Star reported on May 10.

Nor will there be a major rise in beer consumption with the upcoming Euro 2024 due to the match time not being favourable for consumers to consume beer at bars and restaurants.

TA Research said the Euro Cup has fewer spectators compared to the FIFA World Cup, hence the impact on global consolidated beer volume could be minimal.

The major drivers for Malaysian breweries Heineken and Carlsberg are mainly from the tourist arrivals and sales during Chinese New Year, as well as year-end campaigns.

It said the price adjustment of about 5% to 8% in 2024 would not impact the topline of both the brewers.

But it will certainly sustain their margin from the increase in raw material prices.

The brewery players have maintained the average selling price (ASP) since 2022.

TA Research believes the breweries’ top line would see an improvement from the increase in the ASP in conjunction with the sustainable beer volume.

From the perspective of share price, TA Research reckoned the breweries would react positively following the historical trend.

It expected the share ...More info on site
