Brewery news USA, VA: Brightworks Brewery to celebrate its grand opening on July 4
Just in time for Manassas’s biggest party of the year, husband and wife team Kenny and Adrienne Lewis are formally celebrating Brightworks Brewery’s grand opening on July 4th, the Pince William Living reported on June 27.

The brewery will extend their full-time hours to Thursdays and Fridays 3 to 9 p.m., Saturdays 12 to 9 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and introduce three new beers to round out their current menu lineup: Margarita Melt Gose, People’s Champ Czech-Style Lager, Cabana Boy Pineapple Weiss, Adrienne’s Raspberry Wheat, Golden Twins Hazy IPA, 47 Falcon American Porter, and Oma’s Oatmeal Cookies Brown Ale.

Located at 9776 Center Street, Kenny and Adrienne up-fitted the former BadWolf Brewing space to include personal touches reflecting their stage of life as busy parents and active community members. The space now includes a play area, pin ball machines, and other nostalgic tokens throughout.

Kenny’s introduction to the industry began years ago via the Downright Obsessed Homebrewers club. Connections from that group have been “brewing” for years, including friendships with now important community partners like Heritage and Sinistral Brewing. As Kenny began nearing retirement from the military, the couple felt equipped to follow Kenny’s passion for a new brewery ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, IL: 5 Bines Brewery to open its doors on June 28
The long wait for beer lovers of Boone County is over, the Rock River Current reported.

After more than a year of delays, mishaps and other obligations, Cheryl and Ryan Morris will officially open the doors on June 28 to 5 Bines Brewery, a microbrewery and taproom at 515 S. State St. in downtown Belvidere.

This is the first business venture for the Belvidere natives. Ryan is an operations manager for a local company, and Cheryl has been a stay-at-home mom.

“It’s a little surreal to finally reach this point, but we’re ready to jump in with both feet and see what happens,” Cheryl said. “We feel like we’ve been holed up in the brewery for so long. We’ve missed seeing people.”

For now, 5 Bines Brewery is only open this weekend to coincide with Heritage Days, Belvidere’s two-day summer festival.

“We will see how this weekend goes and how much beer we have left,” said Cheryl, who predicts a full opening soon.

The road to opening day has been filled with plenty of potholes.

Originally scheduled to open in the summer of 2023, the Morris family’s Belvidere home was struck by lightning, which left three large holes in their roof and a power surge that “fried” ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OH: Royal Docks Brewing getting a new owner
Royal Docks Brewing Co. — the largest Stark County-based craft brewery — is getting a new owner, indeonline.com reported on June 28.

An investment group chaired by Andrew Gould, CEO of North Canton-based Squirrels, has taken a controlling interest in the British-themed business, the brewery announced Friday. Squirrels is a software company.

Royal Docks, which has locations in Jackson Township and Plain Township, will use the new investment to open a third taproom in late July or early August in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood. The brewery had announced its plans in February for the Tied House at the corner of West 28th Street and Detroit Avenue.

"Ohio City is the next frontier for Royal Docks, and we are eager to unveil our plans," Gould said in a prepared statement. "Our aim is to ensure our Northeast Ohio customers are always within reach of a fresh Royal Docks beer.”

John and Adriana Bikis and brewmaster Dave Sutula founded Royal Docks in 2015. It was built on a theme of a British pub. Royal Docks now operates both taprooms and a production brewery.

John and Adriana Bikis and Sutula are remaining with the brewery, known for beers such as Backyard Crusher and Vlad the Impaler.

Brewery news USA, ID: West Boise’s Edge Brewing to close next week
A West Boise restaurant and brewery will close next week, but its brand will live on, Boise Dev reported on June 26.

Edge Brewing on Steelhead Way near Boise Towne Square will close its doors for good on Wednesday, July 3, and the property is for sale, according to a real estate listing.

A call left earlier this week with Edge management was not returned.

The brewery business was sold to Garden City-based Western Collective, which will not keep the restaurant or brewing facility. Western Collective owner Cary Prewitt tells BoiseDev all production of Edge Brewing products will be moved to their brewery in Garden City. Edge beer, cider, and cocktails will soon be available at Western Collective and Western Proper and will continue to be available at grocery stores and other bars and restaurants around the state.

“My plan is to continue running the Edge brand completely separately and expanding products as we see fit,” Prewitt said. “We are not planning on getting rid of Edge at all. We are so excited to grow the Edge brand from here and take it to the next level.”

Edge was known for its mix of pub food along with its line of beers and ciders. The ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, ME: Bissell Brothers Brewing closing its hometown location

The business made the announcement on their Facebook page last night that it’s with a heavy heart they will be closing all operations at Three Rivers in Milo.

They say in a message that after much consideration continuing to operate Three Rivers to their standards has become financially unsustainable.

The owners said, “It was an incredible experience to build this program over the last six years with our team, past and present, who not only made it work but created the essence, alongside the many great memories for the community.”

The restaurant has been in business since 2018.

Barley news Ireland: No shortage in spring barley seed expected for 2025 season
The Irish Seed Trade Association (ISTA) is forecasting that there will be no shortage in spring barley seed produced by Irish growers for the 2025 season, Agriland reported on June 28.

This was a key message delivered by the organisation’s vice-president, Fred Lynch at the 2024 Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) cereal variety trials open day this week.

“This projection is based on the state of crops in the fields right now. And, obviously, a lot can happen between now and harvest,” Lynch continued.

“But, assuming, we get decent weather over the coming weeks, there will be enough indigenous supplies of spring barley seed to meet the needs of Irish growers next year.”

Meanwhile DAFM is confirming that Ireland’s tillage area in 2024 is on a par with that of last year. This is despite a significant fall-off in the area of winter cereals sown out last back end.

DAFM’s head of division for crop policy, evaluation and certification, Barry O’Reilly, spoke at the variety trials open day.

He confirmed that the prolonged period of very wet weather since last summer resulted in significant challenges for tillage farmers in getting crops harvested for the 2024 harvest.

“The area of winter cereal crops is approximately ...More info on site

Brewery news Malaysia: Carlsberg Malaysia expands its 1664 premium beer portfolio
Carlsberg Malaysia has expanded its 1664 premium beer portfolio with a new lager offering, hoping to appeal to a wider consumer segment with its ASEAN-first launch into this new category, FoodNavigator-Asia reported on June 25.

The brewery owns exclusive rights to the 1664 French beer brand outside of the United Kingdom, including in Malaysia and Singapore, and so far has only sold the 1664 Blanc and 1664 Rosé wheat beers in these markets.

In an attempt to widen its reach, Carlsberg Malaysia has introduced the new 1664 Brut lager beer to the local market, taking a multi-format approach by launching this across both retail and foodservice.

“We mean for 1664 Brut to appeal to premium beer drinkers that are looking for lager products, it has a different taste profile with a different edge and a twist to it compared to the well-known 1664 Blanc wheat beer,” Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Stefano Clini told FoodNavigator-Asia.

“This will allow beer drinkers that don’t like wheat beer to access the 1664 brand, so we can increase the appeal of the brand and open up to new consumer segments that like a different taste profile.

“It means that our 1664 range in Malaysia now provides a diverse premium ...More info on site
