Brewery news France: Analysts don’t expect France to see surge in beer sales during the Olympics
Will France see an increase in beer sales during the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games? Not if the past couple of years are anything to go by, new data from Kantar has found, ESM reported on July 17.

In summer 2023, beer sales saw a drop in consumption in France, with 6.9% fewer purchase occasions in the period from May to September, compared with the previous year.

This decline was seen across pretty much all beer categories, including non-alcoholic beers (-12.2% in volume sales), blonde beers (-8.4%) and fruit/flavoured beers (-7%). Only amber beers bucked the trend, seeing a 4.2% increase in volume sales, Kantar's data showed.

Overall, 46% of beer purchase occasions in France occur during the summer, with drinkers seeking both 'celebration' and 'responsible consumption', Kantar said – trends that may have once been seen as contradictory, but now operate in tandem.

Looking at summer consumption trends, using data from 2022, wheat beers saw a 98% increase in traffic during summer, compared to winter, while fruit-flavoured beers (e.g., Desperados, Cubanisto) experienced 20% more traffic in summer than in winter.

The non-alcoholic beer sector also shows strong summer seasonality. Non-alcoholic flavoured beers (e.g., Tourtel Twist, Desperados Virgin) generated 130% more traffic in summer compared ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, CA: AB InBev to invest $7 mln in its Fairfield brewery
Beer giant Anheuser-Busch announced on July 11 plans to invest $7 million in its Fairfield brewery to support ongoing facility improvements, including new roofing for the facility and new equipment and lighting, on top of other structural repairs, The North Bay Business Journal reported.

A news release from the brewery said the updates made with this investment will “ensure the brewery continues to brew, package and distribute Anheuser-Busch beer in the highest quality and most efficient way possible.”

While investments are made to the Solano County facility every year, per a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch, the last time the company announced investment in brewing facilities was 2017.

“These investments in our Fairfield brewery strengthen capabilities across our entire business to ensure our northern California facility continues to brew the great-tasting, high-quality products that have satisfied drinkers for generations," said Brendan Whitworth, CEO of Anheuser-Busch, in the release.

The Fairfield location brews over 20 of the company’s brands including Budweiser, Bud Light and Big Wave. It also has 254 full time employees and was first constructed in 1976.

Anheuser-Busch has invested nearly $2 billion in its facilities across the country with hopes of creating and sustaining jobs while driving economic prosperity in the communities where it operates, ...More info on site

Brewery news South Africa: South Africans warned of a looming increase in beer prices
The National Enterprises Workers Union Ya Afrika (NEWUYA) is warning South Africans of a looming increase in the price of beer as workers at the United National Breweries enter the fifth week of strike action over wage disputes, Primedia Plus reported on July 12.

NEWUYA initiated industrial action over a month ago due to the employer's persistent failure to implement wage adjustments agreed upon in April 2021.

More than a hundred employees at the African beer manufacturing company have joined the strike, leading to notable reductions in production volumes in recent weeks and mounting pressure on the company.
