Brewery news USA, GA: Dream City Brewing Co. coming to Carrollton, Georgia this year
The Alley Cat Brewery, a landmark in the city of Carrollton, Georgia, is set to undergo a transformative revival into a cutting-edge brewery and vibrant community space named Dream City Brewing Co., Craft Brewing Business reported on July 29.

The esteemed construction firm Frank Co GC has been awarded the task of renovating this iconic building, ushering in a new era of craft brewing and community engagement.

Dream City aims to blend the rich history of the Carrollton square with modern architectural innovation. The redevelopment project will see extensive updates to the existing structure, along with the exciting addition of a second-floor rooftop deck that promises to offer outdoor vibes and awesome views. This rooftop area is envisioned as a hub for social gatherings, events, and of course, enjoying finely crafted beers in a unique setting.

“We are thrilled to be part of this historic transformation of Alley Cat Brewery into Dream City,” said Eric Hansen, Director of Operations for Frank Co GC. “Our team is committed to preserving the heritage of this site while introducing state-of-the-art features that will elevate the brewing experience and create a destination that the community will cherish.”

The revitalization project will not only enhance the physical space but ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OR: Fracture Brewing closes brewing operations, to keep two taprooms open
Portland, Oregon’s 2 year-old Fracture Brewing is no longer brewing beer, but will keep their two taprooms open with guest taps, cocktails, and by contracting out brewing for a few of their already established recipes. The major contraction of the brand will mark an end to their distribution arrangement for both draft and 16oz cans through Day One Distribution, as the Chefstable group owned brewery pivots to supplying only some of their key bars and restaurants and looks to regroup in the future, New School Beer reported on July 30.

Fracture Brewing celebrated their 2nd anniversary on 4/20/2024, and also closed out their brewhouse and production space in the same weekend. At the time it seemed like a savvy pivot to move brewing to the smaller and nimble Culmination Brewing space, where Fracture head brewer Steve Beaudoin could still make all the beers only now with Culmination head brewer Dan Hughes who coincidentally is his roommate. The shared partnership seemed full of potential, but with the downside that Fracture was locked out of their own space and equipment by the building landlord amid rumors of legal trouble. Original brand visionaries Darren Provenzano and Ny Lee had already left the brewery in ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, GA: Southern Brewing Company temporarily halts production
Southern Brewing Company has temporarily halted beer production and let go some of its staff, it announced on July 26 in a now-deleted Instagram post, Online Athens reported.

The company's taprooms in Athens and Monroe will remain open while they "figure things out," the post read.

"We appreciate the community's support over the past 10 years and we are hopeful that this will be sorted soon. Please come show our bartenders some love as we navigate this difficult situation."

An email from Southern Brewing VP of sales and marketing Steven Brand says the plan is to not shut down the breweries, but recent legal issues between a couple of the owners has caused recent layoffs. It remains to be seen if it closes its doors for good after the beer runs out in the taprooms.

Southern Brewing opened in 2015 at 231 Collins Industrial Blvd and serves such beers as the Hobnail Boot IPA, Fog Machine Hazy IPA, 7 A.M. lager and Shock Wave Sour.

Brewery news Kenya: East African Breweries’ dividend payment up thanks slower drop in profitability in the year ended June 30
East African Breweries Plc (EABL) has increased dividend payment for the year ended June 2024 by 27.27 percent to Sh7 per share, or Sh5.5 billion in total, after posting a slower drop in profitability, Business Daily reported on July 31.

The firm’s board has proposed a final distribution of Sh6 per share in addition to an interim payout of Sh1 per share that was distributed in April.

The proposed dividend, to be paid on October 28 to shareholders who will be on EABL’s register by September 16, will make the total payout higher than the Sh5.5 per share last year, but smaller than Sh11 per unit for the year ended June 2022.

This means the giant brewer, with operations in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, will spend nearly Sh5.54 billion in payouts to shareholders compared to Sh4.35 billion last year.

The firm spent a record Sh8.7 billion on dividends for the year ended June 2022, after freezing the distribution in the prior year when earnings had been battered by Covid-19 pandemic shocks.

The proposed dividend will take up half (50.92 percent) of profit it generated during the year under review, compared with a payout rate of 35.29 percent a year earlier.

EABL on July 30 reported that ...More info on site

Brewery news Nigeria: International Breweries’ loss after tax worsens in the first half of 2024
International Breweries’ loss after tax worsened by 352 per cent to N106.8bn in the first half of 2024, from the N23.6bn recorded in the same period last year, Punch Newspapers reported on July 30.

According to the company’s unaudited condensed financial statements for the period ended June 30, 2024, which was filed with the Nigeria Exchange Limited on Monday, the loss was on the back of higher costs of sales, administrative expenses, and finance costs.

However, the company experienced an increase in its revenue, surging by 92.19 per cent from N116.13bn in 2023 to N223.19bn, driven by higher sales volumes and improved market penetration.

The cost of sales rose by 104 per cent from N78.65bn in 2023 to N160.58bn in the first half of the year, due to increased raw material prices and higher operational expenses, the brewer said.

Administrative, marketing, and distribution expenses increased by 33 per cent, from N36.13bn in the previous year to N48.18bn in the first half of the year. The rise in these expenses was attributed to expanded marketing campaigns and increased distribution costs.

Other expenses soared by 274 per cent, jumping from N35.88bn in 2023 to N134bn in 2024. Net finance costs rose by 355 per cent, rising from ...More info on site

Brewery news Brazil: First-half beer inflation exceeds 3%
According to the IBGE survey, Brazil’s beer inflation in the first half of 2024 exceeded 3 percent, FreshlyBottled.com reported on July 23.

In stores the increase was 3.3 percent, while in bars and restaurants it reached 3.4 percent. The city of Curitiba (southern Brazil) led the increase in households among the cities surveyed by the IBGE, with an increase of 5 percent, while Belém (North East) had the smallest variation, 0.3 percent. Away from home, Campo Grande recorded the highest inflation, reaching 6.5 percent, while Rio Branco (North West) remained stable.

Beer inflation in the first half of 2024 exceeded the country's official index (2.5 percent). However, other alcoholic beverages registered a deflation of 0.12 percent in June, but accumulated an increase of 6.5 percent in the first half of 2024 and 11.4 percent in the last twelve months.

Finally, the IBGE survey confirmed that the food and beverage group were the two product categories that presented a higher inflationary increase than the average of other products.
