Vietnam: Heineken reaffirms commitment to further invest in the Vietnamese market
|
Heineken will further invest in the Vietnamese market in the coming time, Managing Director of Heineken Vietnam Wieste Mutters said during a meeting with National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai in Hanoi on August 30, VovWorld reported.
He thanked the Vietnamese legislature for its pro-business policies and expressed hope for continued supportive policies from Vietnamese ministries and agencies.
Vice Chairman Hai lauded Heineken Vietnam's impressive track record spanning more than three decades, saying that it has been instrumental in fostering Vietnam-Netherlands and Vietnam-EU partnerships.
He praised Heineken Vietnam for its practical contributions to environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and advocacy for "responsible drinking".
Mr. Hai offered assurances that the Vietnamese NA will support and create a legal framework conducive to the operations of both domestic and foreign businesses, including those from Europe. Vietnam will continue to refine its legal system in line with international practices and commitments and stay open to the firms’ ideas, he said.

Uganda: Brewers grappling with rapidly changing consumer landscape in Uganda
|
Ugandan brewers, once able to rely on customer loyalty to single products, are now grappling with a rapidly changing consumer landscape. The challenge lies in a young and increasingly fickle drinker base, coupled with tough economic conditions that are forcing consumers to cut back on spending, the Daily Monitor reported on August 29.
Historically, local beer drinkers were known for their brand loyalty. However, the rise of a dynamic youth population, evolving social lifestyles, and heightened competition in Uganda’s alcohol market have created a diverse pool of young drinkers with shifting preferences.
More than half of Uganda’s population, estimated at 45.9 million, is under the age of 35, according to preliminary results of the latest national population and housing census conducted in May this year.
The local alcohol market is dominated by two European multinationals, but a steady influx of smaller players producing spirits and wines targeted at young consumers has triggered fierce competition in the market.

North Korea: North Korea taps into beer exports to boost foreign currency earnings
|
North Korea’s Kyonghung Unhasu Beverage Factory has begun aggressive efforts to earn foreign currency through exports as it ramps up beer production, Dailynk.com reported on August 30.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source in Pyongyang told Daily NK on August 26 that the factory “recently developed a variety of beer products, including bottled beer, canned beer and packaged draft beer, and started shipping them in late July.”
The factory significantly increased beer production by reassigning two work teams to the task. In August, the factory held a meeting at which workers were urged to move up the shipping date from the previously scheduled date “so that there are no obstacles to exports,” the source said.
The factory has recently been focusing on beer production because of a government order to expand foreign exchange earnings through beer exports. “In early June, the factory received a government order asking it to expand exports by diversifying beer products and increasing production,” the source said.

|
Canadians are enjoying the summer through rosé coloured glasses this year as Carlsberg launches an exciting new innovation, and a first for Canada: rosé beer, Yahoo Finance reported on August 29.
In the season of pink drinks, 1664 Rosé is right on time with their new wheat beer that boasts a hint of citrus, peach, and subtle notes of coriander with an added touch of red berries that's light on the palate. This refreshing take on the year-round favourite 1664 Blanc is also served in the iconic blue bottle.
"It's the best of two beloved and sophisticated libations: a beautiful glass of rosé and a refreshing, premium beer. If you can't decide on one, 1664 Rosé gives you both," said the director of marketing at Carlsberg Canada, Chad Abdo.

Japan: Suntory completes Hakushu Distillery enhancements
|
Suntory’s Hakushu Distillery has brought yeast cultivation in-house and introduced floor malting as part of a year-long site renewal project, The Drinks Business reported on August 27.
The Japanese multinational has announced today that the renewal of its Yamanashi Prefecture-based whisky distillery will be completed in September 2024. The project had been under way since last year.
Suntory has introduced yeast cultivation at Hakushu, located at the foot of Mt. Kaikomagatake in the Japanese Southern Alps. Yeast is essential to whisky production. By cultivating yeast at its in-house facilities, the company aims to continuously obtain high quality yeast, the company said in a press release.
Floor malting will also become part of the distillery’s production process. The technique is a traditional process for malting barley, where once the barley has been soaked in water, it is spread out on the malting floor where it is shoveled or raked to expose it to oxygen in the air and encourage uniform germination. This method will enable Suntory to malt barley in various conditions.
Hakushu Distillery was established in 1973 and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. The site creates whiskies that differ from that of Yamazaki Distillery, due to their differing climates and locations as well
