USA, FL: Outcast Brewing Company to open its doors on September 13

A sleeping giant is about to come to life in St. Pete’s brewery scene. Outcast Brewing Company is officially opening its doors on Friday, September 13 at 1776 11th Ave N, bringing new (and significantly upgraded) life to the former Flying Boat and Brutalist space, I Love the Burg reported on August 30.
The family-owned brewery has made a significant investment in the property, led by a plan to truly have something for everybody. We got a sneak peek at the facility (as well as an early taste of some of the beers), and they’ve truly done an impressive job with their plans and upgrades.
In addition to excellent craft beer, Outcast will also feature an upscale wine list, cocktails and mocktails, NA and kombucha drinks, hard seltzers, and even root beer on tap, so parents and their kids can get a pint from the bar together. What’s particularly impressive, however, is the renovation to the indoor and outdoor spaces on the sprawling property.

USA, SD: WoodGrain Brewing Company switching ownership
|
WoodGrain Brewing Company is switching hands after nine years, according to a news release, Keloland.com reported.
Co-owners Jason Currie-Olson and Ryan Van Tol are selling their shares to business partner Steve Hartman, giving him sole proprietorship of the brewery moving forward.
“We have worked really hard and been very proud of the brewery we opened. The atmosphere
we’ve developed, the community we’ve nurtured, and the products we have created are some of
the best in the area,” said co-owner Jason Currie-Olson. “We look forward to this next stage of
WoodGrain Brewing Co. and can’t wait to see how the brewery grows under Steve’s direction, ” they said in the release.
The brewery will celebrate its ninth year of business with events on Saturday, September 7.

USA, WA: Crucible Brewing to cease operations unless new owner is found
|
Everett-based Crucible Brewing recently announced it is ceasing operations at the end of this year. That is, unless a new owner is found. They are actively looking for someone to carry the brewery’s legacy into the future, The Washington Beer Blog reported on August 30.
Crucible Brewing opened its flagship location in 2015. A couple years later, it opened a second location in Woodinville, but it closed in early 2023. In 2021 it opened a taproom in North Seattle called Pour Decisions, an operation shared with Soundbite Cider Company.

Nigeria: Nigerian Breweries launches N599 bln rights issue

Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has opened acceptance list for its N599.1 billion rights issue, in the biggest recapitalisation programme by existing shareholders of a company, The Nation Newspaper reported on September 4.
NB is offering 22.61 billion ordinary shares of 50 kobo each to existing shareholders at N26.50 per share. The shares have been pre-allotted on the basis of 11 new ordinary shares for every five ordinary shares held as at the close of business on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Acceptance list for the rights issue opened on Monday, September 02, 2024 and will close on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The board of the company on September 3 said the opening of the rights issue followed approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Netherland-based Heineken N.V, the majority investor in NB, is expected to invest not less than N341 billion in NB through the rights issue that pre-allocated about 12.9 billion ordinary shares to the multinational.
Market sources had indicated that Heineken N.V., which has shown strong appetite for the Nigerian market, could scale up its investments to more than N400 billion.

Malaysia: Carlsberg Malaysia committed to focus on premium products despite significant drop in sales

Carlsberg Malaysia has committed to continue its focus on premium products moving forward despite seeing a significant drop in sales, BeverageDaily.com reported on September 3.
Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd (Carlsberg Malaysia) recently announced its H1FY2024 financial results, reporting a 5.7% rise in revenue year-on-year to RM1.23bn (US$) but a drop of -3.4% in net profits year-on-year to RM167.3mn (US$).
The decline in earnings was attributed to taxation issues in the firm’s Sri Lankan business Lion Brewery (Ceylon) PLC, which incurred RM10.8mn (US$) of charges in the first quarter of the year.
“Our performance in the first half of the year was satisfactory although profits were negatively impacted by the deferred tax liabilities due to the restatement of foreign withholding tax in Sri Lanka,” Carlsberg Malaysia Managing Director Stefano Clini told the floor at the conference announcing these most recent financial results.
“We will continue to stay vigilant on cost management and cost optimisation opportunities in our supply chain, which will enable us to accelerate investments in our brands.”

UK: Diageo starts longer-term test sale of non-alcoholic Guinness on draught
|
Diageo has started a longer-term test sale of its non-alcoholic Guinness on draught in the UK on-premise, Yahoo Finance reported on September 2.
The zero-alcohol stout will be sold at The Devonshire pub in Soho, London, priced at £6.35 ($8.34) a pint. It will be available on tap until early 2025 "with the possibility to extend", Diageo told Just Drinks.
The move follows a small three-day trial of the non-alcoholic stout on draught in The George pub in Fitzrovia, London, from 15 to 17 March last year.
Diageo described the latest push with Guinness 0.0 as "a momentous moment for on-trade expansion in the UK".
Draught Guinness 0.0 is also available, alongside full-strength Guinness, at stadiums across England that are hosting Premier League football matches from August until May next year. The product was also sold on tap earlier this year at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, London, at the Six Nations international men's rugby tournament from early February to mid-March 2024.
In a statement, Anna MacDonald, Guinness marketing director for Diageo's Great Britain (GB) arm said: “We’re thrilled to be trialling Guinness 0.0 at a select number of pubs in GB, including The Devonshire – a priority stop for any Guinness fans in London.”

UK: Carlsberg claims beer from red barley healthier than normal lager
|
Carlsberg has claimed that its beer made from red barley is healthier than a normal pint and ‘like a wine’, according to reports.
The brewer told The Telegraph that its new red barley beer – not to be confused with a red ale, which is traditionally made from roasted barley and kilned malt – contains fewer hops, and also has the addition of anthocyanins, which are found in grape skins.
As a result, the naturally occurring compounds which have been bred in red barley assist in reducing the risk of cancer, diabetes and boosting memory. It was made through cross-breeding rather than genetic modification, using a technique from the Carlsberg laboratory called ‘Find-It’.
As reported in the drinks business, a red barley beer was originally launched in 2019 as a cross-promotion with Liverpool FC. A 4.6% ABV pilsner, it was originally brewed as a single batch overseen by the Carlsberg research lab, a spokesperson told db.

UK: Brixton Brewery to shift production to Heineken-owned craft brewing peer Beavertown Brewery
|
Brixton Brewery is to close its production site in south London, shifting production to Heineken-owned craft brewing peer Beavertown Brewery in Enfield, north London, The Grocer reported.
The brewer, which sold a minority stake to Heineken in 2018 before moving to full ownership in 2021, said it had outgrown its facility on Dylan Road, Loughborough Junction, and had begun to transition production to Beavertown in order to “facilitate rapidly growing demand” for its beers.
“Growth is a nice problem to have, but it is not without its challenges,” said co-founder and MD Jez Galaun. “We’ve again outgrown our production site in Brixton and need to make some changes in how the business operates.
“With the expiry of our lease coming up, we need to plan the future of our growing business,” he added.
Beavertown’s Enfield site had been “built to the highest efficiency standards” which would mean “increased levels of sustainability and reduced environmental impact” for Brixton, Galaun said.
The brewer has constructed a new meeting facility and workspace next door to its taproom and original small-batch brewery In Brixton, which is to continue producing its range of limited-edition beers.

Russia & North Korea: Russia permits imports of North Korean beer
|
A Russian company registered in the far eastern city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur has been cleared to import beer produced in North Korea, Russian media reported, in the latest sign of warming ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.
The shipments come as other North Korean trade restricted by United Nations sanctions for its weapons programmes comes under international scrutiny.
The U.S. and South Korea say North Korea has been supplying artillery and ballistic missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine, which both Moscow and Pyongyang deny.
Ties between Pyongyang and Moscow have been blossoming recently. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited North Korea for the first time in 24 years in June to hold a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
The North Korean beer will be imported by a company named Vostokbirtrade, which was registered in June, Russia's RBC business daily reported, citing documents.
North Korea has recently ramped up beer production in an effort to earn foreign currency through exports, Daily NK, a Seoul-based website that releases news and information based on sources inside North Korea, reported last month.
