USA: Boston Beer amends production deal, cuts guidance
|
Boston Beer Company Inc cut its full-year GAAP earnings per share guidance to $3.80-$5.80, down from $5.50-$7.50, Yahoo Finance reported on December 20.
The company said it has amended its production agreement with Rauch North America to better align with its future capacity needs. The revised deal enhances production flexibility and grants Boston Beer improved termination rights.
As part of the agreement, Boston Beer will make a $26 million cash payment to Rauch by December 23, resulting in a pre-tax contract settlement expense of $26 million, or $1.70 per diluted share after tax, in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Non-GAAP EPS guidance remains unchanged at $8.00-$10.00.

South Korea: Japanese beer sales soar in South Korea
|
According to data from South Korea's Export and Import Logistics Statistical System published on the 24th of December, the import volume of Japanese beer this year until October reached 76,700 tonnes. Considering that alcohol consumption typically increases in the fourth quarter, the import volume of Japanese beer this year is expected to surpass the 80,000 tonnes of 2017 and approach the record high of 86,700 tonnes in 2018, Chosunbiz reported.
During the same period, 21,100 tonnes of Chinese beer entered South Korea. This figure is less than half compared to before the pandemic. Chinese beer peaked in 2019, with an import volume more than double the current figure at 58,200 tonnes. In contrast, even considering end-of-year amounts this year, it seems difficult to exceed 25,000 tonnes.
Just ten years ago, Japanese beer was so strong in South Korea’s market that for every bottle of Chinese beer sold, three bottles of Japanese beer were sold.
However, starting in the mid-2010s, Chinese beer gradually began to increase its market share in South Korea. By 2017, for every three bottles of Japanese beer sold, two bottles of Chinese beer were also sold.
This coincides with the period when specialty lamb skewers began to increase in South Korea.

The Philippines: Crazy Carabao and the rise of craft beer in the Philippines
|
In recent years, the Philippines has witnessed a remarkable transformation in its beverage industry, particularly in the craft beer sector. Once dominated by a handful of commercial giants, the beer landscape in the country is now flourishing with innovative brewers dedicated to quality and unique flavors, Hoodline reported on December 27.
This burgeoning craft beer revolution is driven by a growing community of enthusiasts and entrepreneurs who are passionate about redefining what beer can be. Among these trailblazers is Crazy Carabao, a standout in the industry, which has played a pivotal role in shaping the local craft beer scene.
Founder Brad Hannam shares the story of their inception, the challenges faced, and the triumphs achieved in this burgeoning industry.
The spark that ignited Crazy Carabao’s journey came from an unexpected source—Manny Pacquiao fights in Las Vegas. Brad reminisces, “When I was going to watch Manny Pacquiao fights in Las Vegas with a group of buddies, we saw such a massive craft beer market in the US, which didn’t exist in the Philippines, so we came up with a plan to build our own brewery and make our own craft beer.”
This observation led to the idea of creating a

Ireland: Heineken 0.0% draught to expand to 3000 pubs in Ireland by end of year
|
Heineken 0.0% will be available on draught in 3,000 outlets by the end of this year, extending its lead as the most popular brand in the non-alcoholic drinks category in Ireland, Drinks Industry Ireland reported on December 20.
Heineken 0.0%’s strong availability is testament to the leadership role Heineken continues to play in the category. Heineken Ireland has invested considerably to increase Heineken 0.0%’s distribution in Ireland, with more than €30 million committed to 0.0% since its launch in 2018.
Heineken Ireland also continues to promote the brand through significant advertising and marketing activity underscoring Heineken 0.0%’s position as the most popular alcohol-free beer in Ireland.
Heineken 0.0% currently holds a 48% Total Market Volume Share of the Non-Alcoholic category,* which means that it accounts for almost one of every two pints of non-alcohol beer sold in the Republic of Ireland.
“When we launched Heineken 0.0% in 2018, we effectively created the modern non-alcoholic beer category in Ireland, offering a top-quality product that consumers wanted to purchase,” said Fiona Curtin, marketing director, Heineken Ireland.

Thailand: ThaiBev launches unpasteurised Chang beer targeting fast growing premium segment
|
Thailand’s second-largest brewer, Thai Beverage Company plc (ThaiBev), has launched its unpasteurised Chang beer in an innovative screw-top aluminium bottle targeting the country’s fast growing premium segment, Asia Brewers Network reported on December 20.
“As a leader in the beer market committed to continuous innovation, we are confident that the ‘Chang Unpasteurised Screw-cap Aluminium Bottle, with its novel design and delicious taste, will enhance Chang’s premium image,” said Songwit Sritham, ThaiBev’s first vice-president and chief of its beer business, at a recent press conference.
The new packaging overcomes several market challenges for the brewer that have constrained sales growth of its unpasteurised brew. Launched two years ago in a glass bottle, access to the beer was previously limited to only restaurants and hotels due to strict cold-chain storage requirements.
Even so, Chang’s unpasteurised beer has already demonstrated strong growth, with sales increasing nearly 300% compared to the previous year. The innovative packaging using Thailand’s first screw-top aluminium bottle provides a reusable container that not only keeps contents cooler than in traditional cans so overcoming supply chain problems, but is also 100% recyclable thus supporting the company’s sustainability objectives.
To meet the anticipated ramp-up in demand, from 19 December, the 500ml aluminium bottle will
