Brewery news Vietnam: SABECO maintains strong financial foundation moving into 2025
Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) is not only maintaining a strong financial foundation moving into 2025, but is also expanding its socioeconomic activities to boost social circles and the environment, Vietnam Investment Review reported on January 2.

The company, known as SABECO, announced the closing of the shareholder list to pay cash dividends in 2024 at a rate of 20 per cent. The expected payment date is January 23, 2025.

A solid financial foundation has been a reliable factor that SABECO has consistently maintained through many business cycles and in 2024. This past year, the brewer focused its business resources on market development activities, including building brand and distribution strategies, consumption in line with consumer trends, restructuring the distribution system, increasing efficiency, and supporting control by channel and product segment.

At the same time, the company is maintaining its place in the domestic market while reaching out to the international market, promoting research and development to improve product quality and launch new product lines, and improving the efficiency of the supply chain throughout the SABECO system.

On top of that, the company has focused on reform to increase investment efficiency, reduce operating costs, and increase productivity; and developed modern trade channels and online sales channels, ...More info on site

Brewery news World: Social pressure puts barrier in front of non-alcoholic beer sales – Heineken study
Most consumers say it is acceptable to have no- or low-alcohol drinks when they go out but some opt for alcohol anyway because of social pressure, according to research by Heineken and the University of Oxford, Financial Times reported on January 2.

The study, based on an Ipsos survey of 11,842 adults of a range of ages in the UK, US, Spain, Japan and Brazil, found that 68 per cent had tried no- or low-alcohol alternatives and 80 per cent believed that drinking them was more acceptable than it was five years ago.

Yet among those who drink alcohol at least once or twice a year, half said that on social occasions they “always” or “sometimes” drank alcohol despite intending to have low- or no-alcohol options.

“Reports from people suggesting that they want to try non-alcoholic versions of alcoholic drinks doesn’t necessarily always translate into increased sales,” said the report’s author, Charles Spence, professor of experimental psychology at the University of Oxford.

“Despite a heightened acceptance of non-alcohol drinkers . . . it is evident that people still do sometimes face social judgment from others concerning their choice of non-alcoholic drinks,” he added.

The research identified a number of challenges for the no- and low-alcohol drinks category, including the ...More info on site

Brewery news The Czech Republic: More Czechs choosing alcohol-free beer nowadays
In a country known for its beer tradition, the rise of non-alcoholic beer is turning heads. More Czechs are choosing alcohol-free options, driven by health concerns and changing habits, with breweries responding to the growing demand. Even in pubs, non-alcoholic beer is becoming a staple on tap, Radio Prague reported on January 2.

"I decided to stop drinking alcohol two years ago, on August 14th. I know the exact date because since then I've been counting the days I haven't had alcohol," says Tomáš Hájek, a young man from Brno, the second city of Czechia.

This year, like last year, Tomáš spent New Year's Eve without alcohol. He began his abstinence after COVID. He realized he was drinking more at home than he wanted to. Now, he feels better:

"During the first two months, I lost about 8 kg. It also gave me much more energy and much better sleep."

He also enjoys alcohol-free alternatives, such as non-alcoholic champagne and non-alcoholic beer: "Non-alcoholic beers have definitely made great progress. There are many brands and beers that offer the same taste experience as alcoholic beer. What bothers me is that non-alcoholic beer costs more than alcoholic beer. I actually think it should be the other ...More info on site

The Russian government has established tariff quotas for the duty-free export of wheat, barley, corn, sunflower oil and meal from Russia's four new regions to countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for 2025, Interfax reported.

According to a resolution signed on December 26 and published on the official portal of legal information, the export quota for wheat, barley and corn is set at 150,000 tonnes for the Donetsk People's Republic, 140,000 tonnes for the Lugansk People's Republic, 1 million tonnes for the Zaporozhe region and 700,000 tonnes for the Kherson region.

A duty-free export quota for oilseed products has been set for the Zaporozhe region, at 25,000 tonnes for sunflower oil and 35,000 tonnes for sunflower meal.

Whisky news UK & USA: Scotch whisky distillers express fears over threat of “damaging” import tariffs in the US
Scotch whisky distillers have expressed their fears over the threat of “damaging” import tariffs being re-imposed on single malt across the Atlantic, The Herald reported on January 2.

President-elect Donald Trump has signalled the US will pursue protectionist trade policies when he returns to the White House this month, which is widely expected to mean the reintroduction of import tariffs in the whisky industry’s most lucrative export market.

Import tariffs introduced during the first Trump administration, which stemmed from a trade dispute between the US and European Union over aircraft subsidies, are estimated to have hit exports of single malt Scotch whisky to America by several hundred million pounds.

The UK Government appointed Lord Peter Mandelson a former minister for business and trade in the cabinets of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, as ambassador to the US shortly before Christmas, ahead of what are expected to be contentious trade negotiations with the incoming President. The appointment of the highly experienced politician appears to illustrate the importance the UK is attaching to securing favourable trading terms with the US in the Trump era.

Speaking shortly before Christmas, Scottish Chambers of Commerce chief executive Liz Cameron highlighted the importance of the US economy to Scotland’s exporters ...More info on site

Whisky news Thailand: ThaiBev launches Thailand’s first Scotch whisky
Beverage giant ThaiBev is embarking on an ambitious venture to create Thailand’s first premium single malt whisky that’s internationally recognised, and after over half a decade of hard work, the elixir of life is now available in three expressions, Khaosod English reported on December 28.

In mid-December, a number of selected guests, and members of the press, were invited to sample the three expressions of PRAKAAN single malt whisky paired with food at The House on Sathorn for a memorable evening.

Mr Prapakon Thongtheppairot, Chief Spirits Product Group of Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev), explained to the forty-or-so guests that PRAKAAN single malt, distilled with local spring water in Kamphaeng Phet province is about provenance, passion, and pride.

The Western Forest Complex, which includes the province of Kamphaeng Phet, sits near the distillery. It is considered the largest remaining forest track in mainland Southeast Asia and covers an area of 18,000 square kilometres. (for comparison, the island of Phuket is 543 square kilometres, while Singapore is 750 square kilometres, and Bangkok 1,569 square kilometres).

This is where PRAKAAN (which means a fort, alluding to the fortification of the ancient city and reflected in the red-brick walls of its distillery, derived its name from.)
