Brewery news UK: Non-alcoholic beer could reach 40% of the UK market in a decade
Non-alcoholic options could represent 40% of beer sales in a decade, UK specialist Big Drop Brewing Co. suggests, arguing the market is “going in one direction”, Yahoo Finance reported on February 7.

With global beer consumption flat, the world’s major brewers are investing in the growing but still small market for non-alcoholic beer alongside focused businesses such as Big Drop in the UK and Athletic Brewing in the US.

The share of beer sales made up by non-alcoholic brews remains small. Heineken estimates the category accounts for around 1.7% of sales.

According to figures from GlobalData, Just Drinks’ parent, the global market for 0% beer jumped by more than 40% in volume terms (or at a CAGR of more than 7%) from 2018 to 2023, when the data and analytics group estimates 2.39bn litres were sold worldwide.

However, the share of volume sales in the eight largest markets for non-alcoholic beer is forecast to remain relatively stable up to 2029, GlobalData suggests. The company estimates non-alcoholic beer accounted for just under 14.3% of beer volumes in 2024; it forecasts that will rise to a little under 14.6% by 2029.

Brewery news Cyprus: Beer sales up 6.3% in January but exports drop to zero
Cyprus beer sales rose 6.3% year-on-year to 1.82 million litres in January 2025, the country’s statistical service said on February 6.

The increase was driven entirely by domestic market growth, which saw deliveries surge 13.6% compared to January 2024.

However, exports dropped to zero, marking a complete halt in international shipments. This represents a dramatic shift from December 2024, when exports had surged by 82%, following months of volatile export performance.

Brewery news UK: Guinness accused of imposing unfair price rises
Guinness has been accused of imposing unfair price rises on pubs as demand from drinkers soars, Yahoo Finance reported on February 7.

Publicans said they were struggling to make a profit from selling Britain’s best-selling beer owing to consecutive price increases handed down by its maker, the drinks giant Diageo, which also supplies Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff.

At the same time, they allege they have been left struggling to get hold of branded glasses to sell the beer in.

Anthony Pender, founder of pub and restaurant group Yummy Collection, said the price he was being charged for a keg of Guinness had risen by around 37pc – or £81 – since the end of the pandemic.

He said: “My keg of Guinness now is £248 for 88 pints. It’s our worst GP (gross profit) item on the bar. It’s just denting our margins when we need decent margins to pay staff. They’re flogging the golden goose, in a way, by just radically increasing their pricing and killing our margins.”

Pauline Forster, owner of The George Tavern in London said: “They put the prices up all the time with no explanation, there is nobody to ring up and you can’t even get a reply on the ...More info on site

Brewery news Ireland: Heineken to increase price of its draught products in Ireland
Heineken has announced that it will increase the price of its draught products in Ireland later this month, by adding around 6 cents to the price of a pint, Drinks Industry Ireland reported on February 7.

The planned price hike will be applied to all of the company’s draught products in Ireland, which includes Heineken, Coors, Birra Moretti, Murphy’s, Foster’s and Beamish.

The 2.8% price increase across the product range will be applied from February 24. It will see the price of a pint rise by approximately 6 cent.

According to a Heinken spokesman, “As a business we continue to focus on opportunities to reduce costs. However, even with these efforts, our business continues to experience cost price increases that are required to sustain our support and investment in the on-trade market.

“As a result, there will be a planned price increase of 2.8% across our draught product range, effective from the 24th February 2025.”

It follows a move by Diageo, who notified publicans last month that the price of a pint is to increase yet again. This will be the fourth price rise in two years.

The price of Diageo’s range of draught products including Guinness, Harp, Smithwicks and Hophouse 13 rose by six cent ...More info on site

Whisky news India: Allied Blenders & Distillers confirms purchase of Fullarton Distilleries
India-based Allied Blenders & Distillers (ABD) has confirmed its purchase of Fullarton Distilleries for an undisclosed fee, Global Drinks Intel reported on February 6.

The deal sees ABD, which claims to be India’s third biggest spirits company, gain control of brands including Woodburns Contemporary Indian Whisky, Pumori Small Batch Gin and Segredo Aldeia Rum. ABD said it is “strategically positioning itself to meet the evolving demands of India’s super-premium and luxury spirits consumers”.

Based in the western state of Goa, Fullarton’s Woodburns brand is currently available in six unspecified states and union territories, with “expansion plans underway for other major markets”, according to ABD. Pumori and Segredo Aldeia are present in the on-premise channel “in key markets such as Maharashtra and Goa”.

“We recognise that the luxury segment is where we have a right to win, where we can truly add value,” said ABD’s MD, Alok Gupta. “Acquiring these brands is a natural next step in our premiumisation strategy.

“This isn’t just an acquisition; it demonstrates our deep understanding of where we can create the most value.”

Headquartered in Mumbai, ABD produces whisky brands Officer’s Choice and Sterling Reserve brands. The group launched an initial public offering last year.
