USA, WV: Boo’s Brewing Co. and Firehouse Grill preparing to open in Point Pleasant this month
|
The smell of smoke, which once clung to the bunker gear of firefighters who spent many days and nights inside the old River Road building, has long since dissipated, PhillyBurbs reported on March 5.
But a similar scent could soon return, as Boo’s Brewing Co. and Firehouse Grill prepares to open this month inside the former Point Pleasant firehouse, where smoked meats and craft beer may soon be served up daily.
Brewmaster Karen Giordano partnered with local builder and designer Glen Stephan to bring their vision of a brewery and restaurant to life inside the landmark property, which they purchased from the Graham and Michele Kinsman, owners of Kinsman Garden Co.
“I started homebrewing, people liked it and then I met up with Glen, he’s a builder. And fate sort of led to the firehouse,” Giordano said.
Together, the two have worked the past several months to transform the property into an inviting and relaxing space for the community to enjoy brews and barbecue — while embracing the building’s firefighting history by incorporating memorabilia and firehouse-inspired elements throughout its design.
With seating for 40 across four different spaces throughout the first floor, the brewery and restaurant provides plenty of room to gather over a pint

USA, KY: Diageo pauses production at whiskey distillery in Kentucky to support productivity goals
|
Bulleit owner Diageo has temporarily paused production at its carbon-neutral whiskey distillery in Lebanon, Kentucky to support the firm’s productivity goals, The Spirits Business reported on March 6.
The Diageo Lebanon Distillery is a 72,000-square-foot facility that uses 100% renewable electricity. The site produces up to 10 million proof gallons per year without using fossil fuels and is one of the largest of its kind in North America.
The distillery was established in partnership with Inter-County and East Kentucky Power Cooperative, and upon completion of the build, it created 30 full-time jobs.
Now, a Diageo spokesperson has confirmed the company has paused production and barrel filling at the site until the summer.
“Every year we run standard temporary slowdowns or shutdowns across our operations to support our efficiency and productivity goals. Since we are ahead of schedule with the volume we produce at the site, this year we decided to temporarily pause our distilling operations and barrel-filling activity through June 2025.
“During this time, some of our employees will support work at our Shelbyville facility while the remaining group of employees will work on strategic projects, conduct trainings to continue building capabilities and maintenance processes to position our sites for a successful start of our

USA, FL: Sound Brewing Co. opens in Hobe Sound
|
Sound Brewing Co., which is Hobe Sound's first brewery, has opened, Treasure Coast Newspapers reported on March 5.
It opened on Bridge Road on Feb. 7 as the third brewery in Martin County after Ocean Republic Brewing Co. opened in 2019 and Frazier Creek Brewing & Distilling opened in 2023, both in Stuart.
Founder Reinhard “Reiny” Knieriemen was the head brewer at Twisted Trunk Brewing Co. in Palm Beach Gardens for nine years before he decided to open his own place.
Sound Brewing is a microbrewery in a 3,000-square-foot building that's split 50-50 between the brewhouse and taproom. It's planning to offer a a small bar menu available to be delivered from next door at Taylor Beach House Cafe.

USA, PA: South County Brewing Company expected to launch in Lancaster in the coming weeks
|
A Pennsylvania-based brewing company that will soon replace the former home of The Press Room, is expected to open its doors in the coming weeks.
ABC27 News reported back in November 2024 when the South County Brewing Company first announced that it would be taking over the former home of The Press Room restaurant in Lancaster, located at 26-28 West King Street.
This transition announcement came just months after The Press Room had announced that it would be officially closing its doors on June 22, 2024.
Currently, the South County Brewing Company boasts two other Central Pennsylvania locations in Fawn Grove and York Township.
The brewing company had previously shared that once their third location in Lancaster opens, it will have a wide selection of South County’s craft beers and cocktails alongside a full menu of American pub fare specializing in BBQ and artisan pizza.
Additionally, the new location will host live music and have large party seating available.
Earlier this week, the South County Brewing Company confirmed that they are hoping to make their Lancaster debut in late March or early April 2025.
According to South County Brewing, the company was first founded back in 2011 by JR and Jen Heaps in Fawn Grove, Pa. Since

USA, WI: Good City Brewing closes its location in Mequon Public Market
|
After what they said was careful analysis and collaboration with the property owner, the Explorium Hospitality Group has closed the Good City Brewing location in the Mequon Public Market, GMToday.com reported on March 6.
The Explorium co-owner Mike Doble explained that the market has a local business owner interested in the space, and that they needed to focus their resources on the other five locations in its group.
"This was an amicable decision on the part of the property owner, the new business, Smokin’ Jack’s BBQ, and us," Doble told the News Graphic. "This location is a stretch for us geographically in relation to our other locations and operating in a public market space presented challenges we were not confident we could overcome. In short, we didn’t feel we could give it the necessary attention to make it thrive even though we feel a local operator could make that bar space an amazingly successful spot!"
Doble said that the difficult part of the decision was informing the location’s current staff, many of whom live in the local community and have worked for Good City for multiple years.
"We are grateful for the time and dedication they have given to both Good City before us

USA, VA: Armed Forces Brewing closing a little more than a year after opening in Norfolk
|
A controversial military-themed brewery championed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin is closing a little more than a year after opening in Norfolk, WHRO reported on March 7.
The company blames a “local woke mob,” but legal filings show a company in deep financial distress dating back years.
Armed Forces CEO Alan Beal wrote in a statement the company will sell its Norfolk building and taproom “while we look for a new home and headquarters in a friendlier environment.”
“Unfortunately, our ability to profitably operate in Norfolk was severely affected by the local woke mob – a few individuals in the area who have no love for the traditional American values we hold as a company,” Beal wrote.
Armed Forces Brewing drew the ire of some neighbors as it relocated from Maryland to Norfolk in 2023. Critics called comments, social media posts and marketing from the company and its spokesman misogynistic, homophobic and transphobic, arguing the company had no place in the city.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin touted the brewery’s relocation after luring the company with $300,000 in tax incentives.
Armed Forces took over the former O’Connor Brewing location, attracted in part because of the huge military presence and veteran population in the community.
But when the company arrived, it

Ireland: Irish Distillers to pause whiskey production in Midleton from April until summer time
|
Irish Distillers Ltd has confirmed that it will pause whiskey production at its Midleton Distillery from early April 2025 until summer time to “support the sustainable global growth of its portfolio of Irish whiskeys”, Agriland reported on March 6.
The distillery usually pauses production for one month in the year for maintenance, however it stated that the extended period has been allowed for to conduct a “routine, periodic review”.
In a statement, Irish Distillers said: “This review demonstrates our ability to be agile with our production cycles and has been enabled through improved operational efficiency and state-of-the-art production facilities.”
It added that the company remains “fully committed” to the production of Irish whiskey and that the change has been communicated to suppliers, customers and contractors “to enable forward business planning”.
The adjustment from Irish Distillers comes at a difficult time for tillage farmers, with farmers in the midst of growing malting barley for the season and recent cuts to malting barley contracts at Boortmalt.
Bobby Miller of the Irish Grain Growers Group (IGGG) told Agriland that farmers are “hearing this news while they are at work in the field” and that the timing is “poor”.
“We can’t afford lower prices for malting barley. We’re seeing nervousness
