Canada: Head of Molson Coors Canada wants Canadians to understand what 'Brewed in Canada' means amid U.S. brand confusions
|
The head of the Canadian arm of Molson Coors Beverage Co. is hoping consumers and policymakers understand what it means for a drink to be “brewed in Canada” as they make decisions on buying Canadian products during the trade war with the United States, Yahoo Finance reported on April 7.
Chantalle Butler, president of Molson Coors Canada, said not having the right information about which products are Canadian and which are American could have ripple effects across the country and thus undermine the goal of “buying Canadian.”
“In this time of people wanting to make decisions to support Canadians, it’s our responsibility to make sure that … they actually understand what it means to be brewed in Canada,” she said during an event at the Canadian Club Toronto last week.
Molson Breweries, now part of the Canada-U.S. multinational corporation Molson Coors Beverage, is Canada’s second oldest company, behind Hudson’s Bay. The company dates back to 1786, when North America’s oldest beer brewery was founded in Montreal. Molson Canadian, first brewed in 1959, remains one of Canada’s most iconic beer brands.
While Molson Breweries merged with U.S.-based Coors Brewing in 2005, the company remains partially Canadian-owned and is now one of the world’s largest beer

USA, TX: Oak Highlands Brewery to move their production facility and taproom to Richardson’s Lockwood District
|
After ten years in Lake Highlands, Oak Highlands Brewery will move their production facility and taproom to Richardson’s Lockwood District later this year, Advocate Lake Highlands reported on April 3.
“We have some big news to share. The rumors have been floating around for a while, but now it is official,” the company announced via social media.
Final touches are being made at the new location, a stand-alone building at the northwest corner of Central Expressway and Beltline Road, formerly home to Happy Hippie Brewing. It is surrounded by Communion Coffee and Coworking, Dream Café, Lockwood Distilling Company and other local eateries, with rooftops and businesses nearby to add customers day and night. Alamo Drafthouse and more shops sit directly across Beltline Road.
“OHB has enjoyed an amazing ten years just six miles East in the Lake Highlands area,” OHB officials added on social media. “This opportunity allows OHB to move from an industrial park into a high-traffic retail area that is still a convenient drive for our loyal, beer enthusiasts while also creating outstanding exposure to the DFW area at our new location.”
Beer enthusiasts won’t be the only ones sad to see OHB relocate. The facility has hosted many Lake Highlands events

USA, MA: BearMoose Brewing Company getting ready to close
|
A brewery just north of Boston is shutting down, Boston Restaurant Talk reported on April 4.
According to a source, BearMoose Brewing Company in Everett is getting ready to close, with a Facebook post from the place saying the following:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce BearMoose Brewing will be closing its doors. Our final day of operation will be April 19. This decision comes after much reflection and is due to a mix of unfortunate business circumstances that made it difficult to continue operating in the way we had always envisioned....While we're closing for now, who knows what the future holds? We're keeping the door ajar--just in case there are a few pints to fill in the future.”
BearMoose first opened in the summer of 2019, moving into an old machine shop space on Revere Beach Parkway; the place includes a taproom and has focused on taproom sales of beer to-go, including cans and crowlers.
The address for BearMoose Brewing Company is 1934 Revere Beach Parkway, Everett, MA, 02149.

USA, CO: Backacre Beermakers to close after 15 years of operation
|
A small brewery that had been based in Vermont before moving to Colorado announced April 3 that it will be closing after 15 years of operation, Burlington Free Press reported on April 5.
Backacre Beermakers began in Weston with a particular focus on one product, its Sour Golden Ale. The beer, sold in bottles, was barrel-fermented and aged for more than a year.
Backacre left its origins for Denver in 2022. The family business that referred to itself as a “blendery” was operated by John Donovan of Weston and Erin Donovan and Matthew Baumgart of Denver.
“We thoroughly enjoyed making our beer,” Erin Donovan is quoted in a news release as saying. “In our 15 years in business, we produced 17 blends. Creating our blends was always a special process and we learned so much over the years."
In an email exchange with the Burlington Free Press, Erin Donovan said the trio decided now was the moment to step away from Backacre Beermakers.
“We gave it our all and are proud of what we accomplished,” she wrote. “But it was just the right time for us to step away.”
Vermont beer aficionados reacted quickly on April 3 to Backacre’s announcement. Commentors on the Vermont Craft Beer

Nigeria: Guinness Nigeria extends majority shareholder’s mandatory takeover offer
|
Guinness Nigeria Plc has extended its majority shareholder’s mandatory takeover offer (MTO) to April 18, according to a regulatory filing on April 4. This suggests the volume of shares taken up from the total offer has not met the company’s target, with a thin gap between the offer and the market price, MarketForces Africa reported on April 5.
Last month, N Seven, the new single largest shareholder of Guinness Nigeria, offered to take out minority interest at N81.60. The move followed its successful acquisition of a 58.02% controlling stake in Guinness Nigeria Plc. The company share price has been flattish at N80 in the equities market.
Due to a bearish display, the Nigerian Exchange’s All-Share Index dipped 15 basis points week on week to close at 105,511.89 points. N-Seven seeks to acquire 481,362,887 ordinary shares of Guinness via the open market offer made at N81.60, but the offer on the table has been extended to April 18.
According to the terms of the offer, shareholders can opt to tender all or part of their shares by submitting an Acceptance Form during the offer window, which runs from 14 March 2025 to 4 April 2025.

France: Axéréal and the Domaine national de Chambord inaugurate a new craft brewery
|
On April 1, 2025, the Brasserie de Chambord—a craft brewery focused on producing beers from locally grown, low-carbon barley and French hops—was officially inaugurated in the presence of local and national stakeholders, Inside Beer reported.
Located near the historic Château de Chambord, the new facility is the result of a partnership between the agricultural cooperative Axéréal and the Domaine national de Chambord.
The idea for the brewery originated with Axéréal, one of France’s largest agricultural cooperatives, which has long championed the barley-malt-beer value chain. With over 11,000 member farmers, Axéréal is committed to sustainable, regenerative, and lowcarbon agriculture. The group plays a key role not only in grain collection but also in malting, holding a majority stake in Boortmalt, the world’s second-largest malt producer with operations across five continents. The malt used in the Brasserie de Chambord is produced locally at Boortmalt’s site in Issoudun, Centre-Val de Loire—one of the most energy-efficient malthouses in Europe, equipped with a large solar thermal power plant and a unique water recycling system.
Through its dual role as grain supplier and malt processor, Axéréal ensures complete traceability and consistent quality in the brewery’s raw materials. The cooperative’s direct involvement in the establishment of the Brasserie

The Netherlands: Dutch brewers rally against US beer import duties, seek resolution
|
The Nederlandse Brouwers has expressed significant concern over the recent announcement by the United States to impose a 20 per cent import duty on beer imports from the European Union, Caliber.az reported on April 5.
This new tariff, which includes beer in Annex 1 of the list of products subject to a 25 per cent duty on aluminum, is seen as detrimental to both sides, according to Meint Waterlander, director of the Nederlandse Brouwers.
Waterlander stressed that the introduction of these tariffs would create a "lose-lose" situation both socially and economically, particularly for Dutch brewers. He pointed out that the US is a key export market for the Netherlands, with 40 per cent of the country’s total beer exports being shipped across the Atlantic. As a result, the added duties could have significant ripple effects across various sectors, including farming, brewing, logistics, catering, and port services, all of which contribute to the Dutch beer export industry.
“The US announcement to impose 20 per cent import duties on all EU products will be a loser on both sides, socially and economically,” Waterlander remarked. “But the big concern for the Dutch Brewers Association is mainly that beer has been added to Annex 1, the list

The Czech Republic: Czech beer culture eyes UNESCO listing
|
Going to a pub several times a week to meet friends, media consultant Gabriela Galetkova hopes Czech beer culture - which is taking a hit as bar visits dip - will be internationally recognised, Daily Journal reported on April 5.
"I won't buy beer to drink at home. For me, Czech beer culture is about meeting people in a typical Czech pub," the 54-year-old told AFP in a Prague bar serving the trademark Pilsner lager with thick froth.
While many beer drinkers in the central European country are turning away from pubs, often to save money, Czech beer professionals are seeking listing by UNESCO among the world's cultural heritage as a possible boost.
Czech beer culture deserves a place on the UN agency's intangible heritage lists owing to its "global reputation", said Tomas Slunecko, head of the Czech Beer and Malt Association.
"Wherever you go in Europe or the world, people ask you about Czech beer," the former diplomat told AFP.
If Czech beer culture gets listed by UNESCO, it will be the world's second after Belgium, listed in 2016 - which according to Slunecko "really boosted the reputation of local beer making, not only inside Belgium but also abroad".
The Czech culture ministry already put
