Brewery news USA, GA: AB InBev making major investment in Cartersville brewery
Anheuser-Busch is making a major investment in metro Atlanta, Atlanta News First reported on September 8.

The beer giant is pouring $9.2 million into its Cartersville brewery.

The investment will go toward upgrading equipment to fuel increased production of beers, including Michelob Ultra, which the company said is the No. 1 fastest-growing beer brand in the U.S. and the No. 1 beer in Georgia.

Anheuser-Busch said the investment will bring more high-quality products to customers while supporting the Bartow County community.

The Cartersville brewery opened in 1993 and makes 48 different products shipped across 32 states. Since 2020, Anheuser-Busch has invested more than $230 million in the brewery, which is part of the nearly $2 billion it’s invested in its 100 U.S. facilities over the past five years, the company said in a press release Monday.

The upgrades are also part of the company’s $300 million investment in its facilities in 2025 to create and sustain American manufacturing jobs, the company said.

Hops news USA, WA: Yakima Valley hop farmers, brewers contend with trade war, extra visa scrutiny
Late August marked the start of the Yakima Valley’s six-week blitz to harvest fields of hop plants bound for breweries, The Seattle Times reported on September 8.

With the citric scent of Centennial hops hanging in the air, Jessica Riel, a fourth-generation farmer at Double ‘R’ Hop Ranches, looked on as her employees unloaded long bines — stems similar to vines — from the backs of white trucks. Their gloved hands guided the plants onto the picking machine for processing.

With a dearth of local workers, Riel has turned to seasonal foreign labor to fill the gaps and complete the yearly harvest. Out of her current workforce of about 100 employees, 42 arrived from Mexico last month.

“The goal is always to recruit local employees, and, over the years, we’ve seen the number of available local workers decline,” Riel said.

Bringing in labor from other countries isn’t easy either, and it’s not the only issue this year. With President Donald Trump back in office for a second term, the beer industry is facing new and preexisting hurdles tied to immigration and trade. The farmers, brewers, manufacturers and distributors that work to deliver bottles of ale to consumers in Washington and beyond are watching repercussions ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, MO: Big Grove Brewery sets its sights on new facility in Kansas City area
Continuing an out-of-state expansion that began in Omaha, Big Grove Brewery has its sights set on the 2.2 million-population Kansas City metro area, Des Moines Register reported on September 8.

Iowa-based Big Grove said Monday, Sept. 8, that it plans to open a tap room and brewery in the affluent suburb of Prairie Village, Kansas, about 10 miles south of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The company said the Shops at Prairie Village location will open in the first half of 2026 in a former Macy's department store that closed in 2020.

Big Grove got its start in 2013 when Doug Goettsch and Matt and Faye Swift founded the brewery in the Johnson County town of Solon, about 12 miles from Iowa City. It's now the second-largest brewery in Iowa after Decorah's internationally known Toppling Goliath. Big Grove brews like its popular Easy Eddy IPA are distributed across Iowa and a growing number of neighboring states.

But where Decorah-based Toppling Goliath has concentrated on building distribution, which reaches from Los Angeles to New York and Miami, and recently acknowledged it had pulled back from a Drake University-area project that would have included a Des Moines brewery and taproom, Big Grove has leaned heavily into ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, TX: Manhattan Project Beer Co.’s Development project gets Mesquite City Council approval
Mesquite leaders say the planned expansion of a popular Dallas brewery into the city’s businesses corridor will bring much-needed economic development to the area, KERA News reported on September 5..

The Mesquite City Council last week approved a tax incentive for a 90,000-square-foot development that will serve as Manhattan Project Beer Co.'s primary production and distribution facility, and that could later include a future restaurant and taproom.

The brewery already has a taproom in West Dallas.

“This project could be a fantastic foundation for MP,” brewery co-founder Misty Sanford said in a post on LinkedIn when the development was first announced.

Stephen Graham is managing partner of Simple Development Partners, a Dallas-based real estate development firm behind the project. He told the council this week he is working on architectural plans with Manhattan Project.

“They are actually so excited,” Graham said. “They want the restaurant in the first phase, which I think is great news. I can't promise that, but that is kind of what they want to see happen.”

In order to receive a bonus incentive, Simple Development Partners would need to build Manhattan Project Beer Co. a restaurant by 2029. City council member Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross said she wants residents to get the “most bang ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, SC: Middle James Brewing closes Rock Hill location
A Rock Hill brewery is the latest closure at The Power House, the downtown food hall in University Center, The Herald reported.

Middle James Brewing Co. announced its closing Sept. 6. Middle James was the anchor location at the food hall that opened two years ago at the former city power plant on Technology Center Way.

“We know Rock Hill deserved more than this, and it’s never easy to say goodbye,” a message on the brewery’s Instagram page said. “Please know how much we’ve cherished pouring beers, sharing stories and being part of your lives here.”

Middle James locations in North Carolina — in Pineville and Waxhaw — will remain open.

Brewery news India: Gen Z consumers spend more on premium drinks even if volumes are lower, Diageo India CEO says
Diageo India chief executive Praveen Someshwar said Gen Z consumers are not cutting back on social occasions but are shifting to premium formats, resulting in higher value per outing even if volumes are lower, Times of India reported on September 4.

“Gen Z are not consuming less. They are consuming different formats, cocktails and ready to drink. They consume less in volume but more premium,” he said during a joint media interaction.

Someshwar said the company continues to orient brand building around occasions rather than demographics, with weddings cited as an example of multiple use cases that range from intimate family connects to larger reception settings.

“Socialising and connects continue to grow. It just finds different forms,” he said, adding that at-home gatherings, pubs, concerts and even concurrent streaming have become meaningful “connect” moments.

On the outlook, Someshwar reiterated the premium and above guidance. “Our guidance has been double digit P&A growth. We see that comfortably coming through,” he said. He added that margins have expanded over the last five years and that the company is cash positive, with cash being reinvested into brands, innovation and people.

“Innovation is the single biggest investment. People are the second area of investment,” he said.

Brewery news UK: Gen Z beer drinkers showing increased interest in cask ale
The number of Gen Z beer drinkers that regularly order cask ale has increased by 50% compared with last year, new data has revealed, Food Manufacture reported on September 8.

A YouGov survey commissioned by the Society of Independent Brewers and Associates (SIBA) found that 25% of 18 to 24-year-old beer drinkers regularly order cask ale at the pub.

This represents an increase of more than 50% on the previous year. YouGov surveyed 2,250 UK consumers in February 2025 to assess their views on the craft beer market and find out more about their beer drinking habits.

Cask Ale Week, which runs from 18 to 28 September 2025, is aiming to tempt Brits back into the habit of visiting their local pub, as well as to support sales of cask beer.

Ash Corbett-Collins, national chairman of cask ale consumer champion CAMRA, said: “Younger drinkers, Generation Z, are already more likely to use pubs than many older Brits. Many people got out of the pub-going habit during lockdown, and in tough times economically, too many have stayed away, causing real problems for many pubs and brewers.

“For some, the initial appeal is undoubtedly the fact that cask ale is often the best value ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: HiteJinro announces launch of a new premium edition beer
HiteJinro announced that it will launch a premium limited edition beer called 'Terra Single Malt Edition' on the 8th of September, ChosunBiz reported.

The Terra Single Malt Edition was released for the fourth consecutive year under the concept of 'a lager beer that can be encountered only once a year.' It uses 100% barley and hops grown on Tasmania, which is known for its pristine environment, with 40% of the island designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The brewing process was conducted in collaboration with the local brewery 'Joe-White Maltings,' which boasts over 100 years of tradition, utilizing the Tasmanian single variety 'ELLA hops' to create a soft and fragrant floral aroma. In particular, consumers can verify the entire process from 'barley-malt-beer' through the QR code embedded in the packaging.

This year, HiteJinro maximized the value of the limited edition through a packaging collaboration with the popular character DinoTaeng, which IPX (formerly LINE Friends) is currently developing in its IP business. As the previously introduced 'Terra|DinoTaeng Ice Bag' collaboration received a great response from consumers, HiteJinro noted that a positive reaction is anticipated for this collaboration as well. The Terra Single Malt Edition will be available in two types of cans, ...More info on site

Brewery news Brazil: Heineken and Ambev raise beer prices
According to the new "LatAm Beverages" report by Bank of America, Heineken and Ambev implemented price adjustments in July, ranging from 3.3 to 6.1 percent, FreshlyBottled.com reported on September 2.

The financial institution's analysis, which surveyed 19 brands at 1,500 points of sale across Brazil, indicates that the largest increase came from the Heineken Group. Its prices increased by an average of 6.1 percent, with the exception of Devassa, which registered a 24 percent increase. Ambev, for its part, applied a more moderate adjustment of 3.3 percent, although its average price today is 2 percent higher than in May, after having reduced its prices in June.

Among the most relevant brands, Heineken Lager increased 3.4 percent between June and August, a move that led Ambev to respond with increases in Corona and Stella Artois. In the premium segment, other brands recorded increases as well: Amstel increased by 7.5 percent, while Budweiser registered variations between 10 and 13 percent. Spaten showed milder adjustments, between 1 and 3 percent.
