Brewery news Canada, MB: Heritage Farms Brewing Company to open its own brewing facility in Winkler
Heritage Farms Brewing Company, a locally born beer brand that has quickly built a following across Manitoba, is preparing to open its own brewing facility in Winkler. The new site, located on George Avenue in the southeast corner of the industrial park, will mark the city’s first craft brewery, Pembina Valley Online reported on September 15.

For company president and shareholder Johnny Trinke, the move is the culmination of a long-held vision.

“I think we've tried to take basically every opportunity that has presented itself to us over the past year or so,” said Trinke. “Any opportunity that we've had just to kind of share our story, share our product, help support local events, whether it be golf tournaments, curling tournaments, charity events, any sort of beer festivals, that type of thing, we've said yes to.”

The new George Avenue facility is designed with growth in mind.

“It’s an L-shaped building… the L-shape is perfect because then you can separate your storage, your loading, and your cold storage area from your production area as well too,” explained Trinke. “It has a very nice flow going from brewing to cellaring… to packaging with our canning line, and then over to the side ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, SC: Bierkeller Brewing Company to make beer in former River Rat Brewery space in Columbia
Bierkeller Brewing Company, a locally-owned German brewery, will make and distribute beer in the former River Rat Brewery space near Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, the company's owner told The State.

The move to distribute across the state is a first for the brewery, which has been in operation since 2015. For years, locals showed up to pop-up pours events along the riverwalk and, after Bierkeller opened its first brick-and-mortar location in 2023, came out to the riverfront location in the Canalside Lofts off Taylor Street. But those looking to pick it up at the store were out of luck.

Scott Burgess, the brewery's owner, told The State he'd waited for "the perfect opportunity" to distribute his beer. He said the partnership with Advintage Distributing, which also distributed River Rat's beer, is that opportunity.

"It allowed us to feel like, for the first time, we can go into distribution with a product we want to go in with, with the quality we want to go in with and with the quantity we want. We wanted people across South Carolina to be drinking our beer ... but we wanted to make it accessible," Burgess said.

Cans of Bierkeller's beer are anticipated to hit shelves in October, ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, WI: Lombardi Brewing Company announces grand opening of new Milwaukee location
Lombardi Brewing Company has announced the grand opening of its new Milwaukee location on Sept. 19 at 2200 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., formerly a City Lights Brewing location, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on September 15.

The opening begins at 3 p.m., according to an announcement on Lombardi's website.

According to a post on the LBC Facebook page, management is still in the process of fully realizing its plans for the Milwaukee site. While the taproom has been updated, "our patio vision won't be started until early 2026," LBC stated.

"We feel we will be able to brew when winter arrives, but until we have confirmation on long term repairs, we will rely on other assets in our portfolio to provide beer," LBC reported on Facebook. It is using the excess capacity of District 1 Brewing in Stevens Point to brew its beers.

The post also estimated that brewing at the Milwaukee facility could begin this winter.

LBC founder John Lombardi founded the brewery in honor of his grandfathers, one being former Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi.

Brewery news USA, NJ: Magnify Brewing Company opens its second brewery in Burlington County
Magnify Brewing Company has opened a second brewery and tap room on Main Street in Burlington County after operating for more than a decade at its original Fairfield, Essex County location, NJ.com reported on September 15.

The new Medford facility, which opened during the summer, features a tap room with 35-foot ceilings and abundant natural light streaming through large windows.

The bar and tables were crafted from wood harvested from a tree that once stood on the property at 17 Main Street, according to a statement from owner Eric Ruta.

The new space has capacity of nearly 350 patrons between the indoor tap room and outdoor beer garden.

The establishment, which opened in July, has 19 beers on tap, ranging from IPAs and lagers to sours, stouts and hard seltzers. Non-alcoholic options are also available.

Behind the scenes, Magnify has installed a custom brewhouse with state-of-the-art equipment designed to enhance efficiency and maintain the high quality of their beer production.

The brewery plans to host various community events, including live music performances, trivia competitions and craft classes.

Brewery news USA, CO: Call to Arms Brewing Co. to close for good at the end of the year
A Denver brewery is calling it quits after a decade on Tennyson Street, but there is still plenty of time to belly up before the doors close, The Denver Post reported on September 15.

Beloved beer maker Call to Arms Brewing Co. recently announced it would close at the end of the year. It did so with help from local entertainer Yupi the Clown, who made the announcement while juggling rainbow pins while riding a unicycle in a video posted to social media.

Its last day of business is slated for Dec. 23, so fans can stop by this fall to enjoy the brewery’s Oktoberfest pop-up, featuring communal beer tables, wiener dog races and festive decor. The brewery will also still deck the halls for its over-the-top Big Holiday Energy pop-up later this year.

In an interview with The Denver Post, co-owner Chris Bell said a confluence of factors — from increased costs to consumers drinking less to having a tough time rebounding after the COVID-19 pandemic — played into the decision to close. Revenue from both wholesale and retail sales is down, while property taxes, insurance and maintenance expenses continue to rise, said Bell, who frequently uses funny or off-kilter videos in ...More info on site

Barley news South Africa: Heineken and Soufflet Malt looking to buy locally grown malting barley
South Africa’s beer value chain is entering a new era with the entry of a second buyer into the market for locally produced malting barley, a step some seven years in the making, Freight News reported on September 17.

This marks a further major investment for alcoholic beverage maker Heineken in South African operations after it acquired the listed Stellenbosch wine and alcoholic drinks maker Distell in 2023.

Heineken and its malting partner, French maltster Soufflet Malt, had its first public meeting with barley industry role players at NAMPO Cape in Bredasdorp last week.

Deon de Wet, senior programme manager for agricultural value chain development at Heineken Beverages South Africa, said the company had been importing 100% of its malt demand from Europe since the company established local operations around 2009 – some 4 000 containers annually – mainly because the company didn’t sell sufficient volumes to open a local malting facility.

Although Heineken has been exploring the possibility of sourcing some of its barley locally, its efforts were interrupted first by the pandemic and then by the Heineken-Distell merger.

Yet for the past seven years, the brewer and Soufflet Malt have been involved in on-farm trials with individual farmers to evaluate candidate cultivars and ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Non-alcoholic beer sales soar fivefold in Korean restaurants
More diners in Korea are selling non-alcoholic beer, with sales jumping fivefold in a year to over 50,000 outlets thanks to a regulatory change and younger consumers’ shift toward low-alcohol drinking, Pulse reported on September 12.

According to data from Oriental Brewery Co. on Thursday, the number of restaurants offering non-alcoholic beer was around 50,400 as of May 2025 compared with only about 12,000 in May 2024.

The sharp rise comes within a year of the revision to the liquor sales license decree, which permitted wholesalers to supply beverages containing less than 1 percent alcohol to restaurants. Wholesalers could previously distribute only drinks with more than 1 percent alcohol, while non-alcoholic products were largely confined to convenience stores and discount retailers.

Oriental Brewery moved quickly after the regulatory change. The company introduced its 330-milliliter bottled non-alcoholic beer Cass 0.0 immediately following the amendment, expanding distribution mainly to barbecue restaurants and Korean eateries. It added Cass Lemon Squeeze 0.0, a fruit-flavored version, in November 2024 as it targeted street bars and pubs.

It broadened its portfolio in August 2025 to three products with the launch of Cass All Zero, the nation’s first “four-zero” beer that is alcohol, sugar, calories, and gluten free. “We are planning ...More info on site

Whisky news UK: Diageo facing opposition over plans to demolish Talisker Distillery in Skye
Scotch whisky giant Diageo is facing opposition from 50 residents over its plans to demolish the Talisker Distillery in Skye, The National reported on September 16.

In June, Diageo submitted a planning application to Highland Council to demolish the current site in the village of Carbost and replace it with a larger distillery.

The move was made in an effort to expand whisky production and support Diageo’s “long-term ambitions for Scotch”.

The planning application opened to public consultation earlier this month, with 50 comments already made in opposition to the project, alongside eight supporting comments – according to The Spirits Business.

Some are concerned over the scale of the project and that it would be “disproportionate” to the village and its landscapes.

One local claimed that the proposed expansion will not result in the creation of a single job, while another brought up the “disruption and nuisance to the local community” the construction phase will bring.

Others, meanwhile, suggested that a new facility was “long overdue” and could bring additional income to the village during the construction phase.

A Diageo spokesperson said: “We continually review our production footprint in support of our long-term growth ambitions for Scotch whisky. We have recently submitted a full planning application to ...More info on site
