Brewery news USA: Heineken currently absorbing impact of US tariff on its European-made beers, CEO says
Heineken is currently absorbing the impact of a 15% U.S. tariff on its European-made beers as the company cannot raise prices above local competition, CEO Dolf van den Brink said on October 23.

The Dutch brewing giant’s U.S. profitability is suffering due to these tariffs, with the company unable to pass on the additional costs to consumers without losing competitive positioning against domestic beer producers.

Van den Brink indicated that any potential shift in production to mitigate the impact of these tariffs would not happen in the immediate future, suggesting the company will continue to bear these costs in the short term.

The CEO also revealed that Heineken may close additional breweries across Europe while simultaneously investing in others as part of its operational strategy.

When discussing the company’s brand portfolio, van den Brink stated that Heineken is unlikely to sell any brands outright, though some may be allowed to "fizzle out" naturally over time.

Brewery news USA, NY: Gem Creek Brewing Co. holds soft opening in Canandaigua
Good things come to those who wait at Gem Creek Brewing Co., which had a soft opening the weekend of Oct. 13, and for owners Guy Mosher and his son-in-law, Zach Reynolds, the Democrat and Chronicle reported on October 27.

“We have seen incredible support from the community,” Mosher said. “Feedback for our beers and pizza has been overwhelmingly positive. It's just been good to see that we're welcomed."

Gem Creek Brewing, which is named for the creek where they live in Waterloo, Seneca County, sits just outside the Roseland Waterpark property, almost right on top of the large wake park pond.

On their first visit, Ron and Laura Sousa of Canandaigua said it was interesting to see a new craft brewery open. They live within walking distance of the city’s other brewing operations, and Laura Sousa said Gem Creek’s location is a good one.

And the beer is good too, she added.

“My hope is they can make a go of it,” she said.

Mosher works in the IT field in the medical industry. Reynolds is a machinist.

Both like to tinker with recipes, both are into IPAs. Gem Creek’s beer menu reflects it: Their Citrine is a double IPA and ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, AZ: Goldwater Brewing Co. to open a new location in Gilbert
Scottsdale-based Goldwater Brewing Co. recently announced plans to open a new location in Gilbert, Ktar.com reported on October 27.

The award-winning beermaker’s second brewery and fourth taproom will be located at 685 S. Gilbert Road, a little north of Warner Road.

Mesa-based Cider Corps previously operated a brewery and taproom at the property, which Goldwater Brewing purchased for $3.8 million in September, according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

“The plans are in motion, the layout’s looking dialed in and we couldn’t be more excited to bring Goldwater to the heart of Gilbert,” the business said on social media earlier this month.

The new venue is expected to open in early 2026.

Goldwater Brewing started producing and serving beer in Old Town Scottsdale in 2015. It opened a second taproom in east Mesa in 2020 and expanded to south Tempe in 2023.

In 2024, the brewery’s Oats M’gotes oatmeal stout won a bronze medal at the prestigious World Beer Cup.

Brewery news USA, MA: Sea Dog Brewing Company planning a new brewpub in Lowell
A beermaker with roots in Maine will be expanding to a new space in Eastern Massachusetts.

According to an article from What Now Boston, Sea Dog Brewing Company is planning to open a brewpub in Lowell, moving into the space on Cabot Street where El Jefe Taco Bar had been. The article mentions that the new location will have seating for 300 (including outdoor seating) along with space for events, and based on its other locations, expect to see a variety of beers (including lagers and ales) as well as classic American fare and comfort food dishes.

Currently, no locations of Sea Dog can be found in Massachusetts, though there had once been outlets in Hull and Woburn; their headquarters had originally been in Camden, ME, today being in Bangor.

The address for the upcoming location of Sea Dog Brewing Company in Lowell is 203 Cabot Street, Lowell, MA, 01854.

Brewery news USA, AZ: Formation Brewing to officially open its doors in Phoenix on November 8
Roosevelt Row, Phoenix has a new destination for craft beer lovers. Formation Brewing is slated to officially open its doors at 925 N. Fifth Street, inviting guests to enjoy locally inspired beer, inventive food, and a warm, communal atmosphere in one of Phoenix’s most well-known neighborhoods, the Valley Girl reported on October 27.

The brewery will mark its grand opening on Saturday, November 8, with a celebration featuring live music, giveaways, food and drink specials, and more.

Spanning 10,000 square feet, the new space is designed with connection in mind. A central sunken seating area anchors the taproom, surrounded by a 19-tank brewhouse that offers guests a glimpse of the brewing process. The venue also includes a 110-seat dining room, an upstairs bar and lounge available for private events, and a heated and cooled outdoor patio with fire pits and big-screen TVs.

“Formation Brewing is more than a place to grab a pint – it’s a place to connect,” CEO Eric Foster said. “We’ve poured intention into every detail, and we’re proud to share this space with the community.”

Leading the brewery’s production is Sam Townsend, a two-time Great American Beer Festival gold medalist and former brewer at Funkwerks in Colorado. Townsend’s debut lineup ...More info on site

Brewery news USA, OK: 405 Brewing Co. to close for good on November 2
405 Brewing Co., Norman’s first production brewery, will be closing on Sunday, November 2 after 11 years of serving residents, OU Daily reported on October 27.

Founded by lifelong best friends and Norman locals Trae Carson and Jonathan Stapleton, who started brewing beer from home, the business has since flourished. 405 beers are on tap at multiple Oklahoma breweries.

Known for experimental drinks, hosting community events and pop-ups at local festivals, 405 Brewing Co. is well-known and loved around Norman, winning the “Bar/Brewery,” category in OU Daily’s 2025 Best of Norman.

Recurring events at 405 Brewing Co. included book club meetings, Winterfest and Oktoberfest events and Hops & Hobbies, which blends beers and crafting.

The closure was announced on 405 Brewing Co.’s Instagram, thanking local contributors for their support.

This comes alongside other recent Main Street closures, including flower shop and vintage clothing shop, Human Interaction, and local ramen restaurant Inkfire Ramen Tapas & Bar.

405 Brewing Co. will host a going-away party, including a Skip-Bo tournament, from 4 to 10 p.m. Nov. 3 at 1716 Topeka Drive.

Brewery news USA, OR: Sunriver Brewing Co. to close westside Bend location
Demolition of the building that housed the former Boss Rambler in Bend will cause Sunriver Brewing Co. to close its operations next door, the Bend Bulletin reported on October 23.

The last day of operations at Sunriver Brewing on Galveston Avenue is Nov. 1, said Ken Cameron, company CEO. The brewer opted to suspend operations at its westside pub because it wasn’t possible to operate during the construction, Cameron said.

“Due to the extensive construction project planned for the neighboring property, we will close,” Cameron said. “We will be on the lookout for another Bend location if the right opportunity arises. We want to thank the community and our incredible staff for making the location a success over the years.”

The Galveston Supply building next door is being developed by RSM Investments. Construction began this summer on the property and developers plan to build a 12,000-square-foot, mixed-use building that will combine retail and office space.

“While we are sad to have to close the Galveston chapter we are very excited about our other locations including Sunriver and eastside, which have had record years,” Cameron said. “Our new Redmond location is off to a great start.”

Nigerian Breweries Plc has posted a group revenue of N1.04 trillion for the nine-month period ended September 30, 2025, representing a 48% growth over the N703 billion recorded in the corresponding period in 2024, The Cable reported on October 23.

According to the unaudited results released on NGX portal, the Cost of Sales rose from N495 billion in 2024 to N627 billion in the period under review, while Marketing, Distribution, and Administration expenses went up by 38% from N184 billion in 2024 to N254 billion in 2025 driven by increased brand and sales activities.

The Company Secretary/Legal Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Uaboi Agbebaku, disclosed in a statement that the Company was still able to deliver strong growth in the topline and in the operations during the period under review despite a high double-digit inflation rate which continues to constrain consumer spending and high input costs.

Brewery news Africa: India’s Varun Beverages signs exclusive distribution agreement with Carlsberg for select African markets
Varun Beverages Limited (VBL), a key bottling partner of PepsiCo, on October 29 announced a major expansion plan that includes entering the alcoholic beverage segment in Africa and establishing new operations in Kenya.

VBL has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Carlsberg Breweries A/S for select African markets. Through this deal, certain African subsidiaries of VBL will test-market Carlsberg beer across their territories.

The company said this step aligns with the growing demand for Ready-to-Drink (RTD) and other alcoholic beverages across global markets. It sees this partnership as a key opportunity to diversify its portfolio beyond soft drinks, adding beer, wine, whisky, rum, vodka, and other alcoholic beverages both in India and abroad.

As part of its global expansion strategy, VBL is incorporating a wholly-owned subsidiary in Kenya. The unit will handle the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of beverages in the region. This move marks VBL’s continued focus on strengthening its presence in African markets, where it already operates in countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Morocco.

VBL has also announced the formation of a new joint venture in India, White Peak Refrigeration Private Limited, in partnership with Everest International Holdings Limited. The JV will manufacture visi-coolers and other refrigeration equipment, supporting the company’s growing ...More info on site

Brewery news Thailand: Excise Dept instructed to ease rules on canned beer
Thailand’s cabinet spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat says that the Excise Department has been instructed to amend rules on canning beer that restrict entry for small craft brewers, Asia Brewers Network reported on October 24.

Thailand’s Cabinet has taken a significant step towards opening up the nation’s craft beer sector by formally instructing the Excise Department to amend regulations that currently favour large producers and effectively block small-scale craft brewers from entering the canned-beer market.

According to Cabinet spokesman and deputy leader of the Bhumjaithai party, Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the directive was issued at the Cabinet’s weekly meeting on 21 October 2025 following a briefing from the Ombudsman’s Office, which concluded that the department’s existing rules may conflict with the newly enacted Excise Act (No. 2), B.E. 2568, also known as the Community Liquor Act, designed to support more local alcohol production.

Under the current regulatory framework, small brewers seeking to can or bottle beer face substantial hurdles. These include requirements for high production capacity, the use of high-power machinery, rigorous environmental impact assessments, and other specifications that favour established players. Siripong noted that such demands have effectively excluded ordinary local entrepreneurs from entering the canned-beer segment.

To address the imbalance, the Cabinet has directed the Excise ...More info on site

Brewery news Nigeria: Nigerian Breweries completes integration of Distell Nigeria into its operations
The Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB) has completed 100 per cent integration of Distell Nigeria into its operations, This Day reported on October 26.

The integration followed the full acquisition of the company by NB in March 2025.

The Corporate Affairs Director of NB, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, disclosed this to journalists recently in Lagos.

Odenigbo revealed that NB has completed the installation of a state-of-the-art manufacturing line for Distell brands at its Ibadan brewery and has since commenced the manufacturing of Distell wines and spirit brands, including Chamdor, 4th Street.

He said, “I am pleased to announce that we have now completed the full integration of Distell Nigeria, and we have now installed a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in our Ibadan Brewery for the production of the Distell Wines and Spirit Brands.”

He explained that the full integration is in line with NB’s ambition to become a ‘Total Beverage Company’, which goes beyond beer.

Odenigbo added that the full integration has now expanded NB’s brand portfolio to include wine, spirits, and ready-to-drink (RTD) brands.

He recounted that NB commenced the acquisition of Distell Wines and Spirits Nigeria in June 2024, initially acquiring an 80 per cent majority stake after obtaining statutory approval from the South African Reserve Bank ...More info on site
