Brewery news World: Diageo names Dave Lewis to be its next CEO
Diageo has named consumer products veteran Dave Lewis to be its next CEO as the Guinness and Johnnie Walker owner grapples with changing consumer alcohol preferences and considers selling off some of its brands, Yahoo! Finance reported on November 10.

Lewis will become Diageo CEO and executive director effective Jan. 1, 2026. Lewis joins after most recently serving as chair of Haleon, a pharmaceutical company founded in 2022. Prior to that, Lewis was the Group CEO for British supermarket chain Tesco.

Still, Lewis is no stranger to the CPG industry. He spent nearly three decades at Unilever, serving in marketing and business roles, including as president of the Americas and global president for personal care. He currently serves as non-executive board director of PepsiCo.

The appointment comes after a months-long search process following the departure of former CEO Debra Crew in July, who left as part of a mutual agreement with Diageo amid a slowdown in alcohol sales. CFO Nik Jhangiani, who has held the CEO role on an interim basis, will return to the chief financial officer position following Lewis’ appointment.

“Dave has both the extensive CEO experience, and the proven leadership skills in building and marketing world-leading brands, that is right for ...More info on site

Brewery news Vietnam: Brewer Sabibeco posts sharp turnaround in performance since acquisition by Sabeco
The 20-year-old Saigon Binh Tay Beer Group (Sabibeco) has posted a sharp turnaround in performance after top brewer Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (Sabeco) took control of the company, The Investor reported on November 11.

Sabibeco’s Q3 financial report showed revenue of nearly VND745 billion ($28.32 million), up 53.7% from a year earlier, while net profit soared to VND66 billion ($2.51 million) from a loss of nearly VND10 billion in the same period last year - a rise of 833%.

The Ho Chi Minh City-based company attributed the improvement to cost reductions and lower borrowing expenses.

Financial costs fell 48% year-on-year to VND2.5 billion as short-term debt dropped to under VND149 billion ($5.66 million) by September 30. Selling expenses declined to VND2.4 billion from VND7 billion, while administrative costs eased to VND12 billion from VND13.6 billion.

Gross profit in Q3 surged 553% year-on-year to nearly VND86 billion ($3.27 million). Pre-tax profit reached VND71 billion, while profit after tax hit VND66 billion ($2.51 million). In the same period last year it lost nearly VND10 billion.

For the first nine months of 2025, Sabibeco reported net revenue of VND2.31 trillion ($87.65 million), up 52%, and net profit of VND108 billion ($4.11 million), reversing a loss of VND76.5 billion in ...More info on site

Brewery news World: Diageo considers external candidates as CEO, sources say
Diageo, the world's top spirits maker, has considered external candidates to be its chief executive, including outgoing GSK CEO Emma Walmsley, the Financial Times reported on November 7, citing people familiar with the situation.

Diageo and GSK did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

In September, GSK said Walmsley would step down at the end of the year and be replaced by insider Luke Miels. Walmsley served for more than eight years in the role, making her the most senior female CEO in Britain.

Interim Diageo CEO Nik Jhangiani stepped in after the abrupt exit of former CEO Debra Crew in July, after she struggled to win over investors following a bumpy start to her tenure.

Jhangiani previously said he expected a decision on a permanent replacement by the end of October, but the company did not provide an update when it cut its sales and profit forecasts on Thursday.

Cranley Macfarlane, deputy chief investment officer at Diageo investor Church House Investments, said this raised questions about why Jhangiani had not been made CEO on a permanent basis, as some had expected.

On November 6, Diageo said it expected 2026 sales to be "flat to slightly down" with only low- to mid-single-digit operating profit ...More info on site

Brewery news Thailand: Thailand tightens alcohol rules
People in Thailand wanting to quench their thirst with an afternoon tipple risk steep fines from Nov 8 under amended alcohol control legislation that strengthens enforcement and significantly tightens restrictions around marketing and advertising, the Straits Times reported on November 8.

Alcohol sales in Thailand have been banned at most retail outlets and supermarkets between the hours of 2pm and 5pm since 1972, but changes to The Alcoholic Beverage Control Act that take effect on Nov 8 now mean individuals can be fined 10,000 baht (S$402) or more for drinking or being served alcoholic beverages during prohibited times or in prohibited places.

Some media reports also say the prohibition runs from midnight to 11am.

Although there are exemptions for licensed entertainment venues, hotels, certified establishments in tourist areas and airports offering international flights, the onus has been shifted to consumers, and the tightened laws also prohibit advertising of alcoholic beverages unless the content is purely factual.

The use of celebrities, influencers or public figures to promote alcoholic beverages for commercial purposes is also banned.

The new regulations will have an adverse effect on restaurants because it is the customer that is now “restricted” by the stipulated sale hours, said Mr Chanon Koetcharoen, president of the ...More info on site
