USA, WA: Ghostfish Brewing Co. buys former Pike Brewery production facility in Seattle
|
Ghostfish Brewing Co. has acquired the former Pike Brewery production facility in Seattle, securing a major expansion that reshapes its future capacity and distribution strategy, Craft Brewing Business reported on December 8.
The purchase gives Ghostfish a 26,000-sq-ft production space in Georgetown, located about 2.5 miles south of its taproom and restaurant. The sale transfers brewery assets previously operated by Green Lake Brewing Co. LLC (doing business as Fremont Brewing Co.), which had taken over the site after Pike Brewing’s corporate reshuffling and facility closures. The acquisition does not affect the historic Pike Pub at Pike Place Market. From the press release:
“This expansion is a long time coming and a major milestone for us,” said Brian Thiel, co-founder/co-owner of GBC. “We started a process of identifying and viewing potential vacant warehouses around the greater Seattle area with the intention to build out a new state-of-the-art brewery back in early 2024. After learning about the former Pike brewery opportunity from our friends at Fremont Brewing in late 2024, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that it checked most of the boxes we were planning to create on our own. The timing of acquiring the new production brewery aligns perfectly for us to

USA, MA: Flying Dreams Brewing Company to close after 10 years in business
|
Flying Dreams Brewing Company has announced plans to close after 10 years in business, MassLive.com reported on December 9.
The brewery, which started in Worcester before moving to Marlborough, wrote on social media that its last day in business will be Saturday, Dec. 27.
Owner and brewmaster Dave Richardson wrote that he loved making Flying Dreams a “home-away-from-home” for so many people. However, he noted that “the numbers” meant continuing was not feasible.
“Unfortunately, no matter how much fun it’s been and no matter all the wonderful people around us, keeping us going, keeping us laughing, the numbers won’t let us,” Richardson wrote. “And it sucks!”
Flying Dreams initially opened on Park Avenue in Worcester in the brewery space connected to Peppercorn’s restaurant.
That spot is famous for being an incubator for Worcester breweries. It was the original home of Wormtown Brewing. It’s currently occupied by Double Down Brewing.
In 2018, Flying Dreams moved from the location attached to Peppercorn’s to its own taproom in downtown Marlborough.
Flying Dreams is the latest Massachusetts brewery to close or change ownership in recent years.
The announcement comes just days after the one-year anniversary of Worcester’s Redemption Rock Brewery announcing its closure.
Other breweries to close recently include Cambridge Brewing Company and

USA, NM: Bosque Brewing Company closing all of its Santa Fe locations
|
One of New Mexico’s biggest breweries announced on December 9 that they are closing all of their locations in Santa Fe.
The Bosque Brewing Company is still restructuring their bankruptcy that began in October. This includes the immediate closing of their two Santa Fe locations. According to the company, this closure means the layoff of three full time employees and 23 part timers.
While their Santa Fe breweries are now shuttered, Bosque says their beers will still be available in stores, restaurants, and bars throughout the city.

USA, PA: Big Bottom Brewery closes brewery and taproom in Dillsburg
|
Big Bottom Brewery will be closing its taproom and brewery indefinitely in Dillsburg, as ownership pursues a potential sale. This is effective immediately, the company announced on December 8.
The brewery had posted over the weekend on 12/6 that they’ve been trying to sell the brewery for quite some time, and that they would have no choice but to shut down.
What this means for Big Bottom Brewery could be a few things. The brewery could just change ownership and continue as is, or new ownership could rebrand the brewery and take it in a new direction.

Thai Beverage Plc (ThaiBev) has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Vietnam following a high-level meeting in Hanoi with the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, underscoring the Group’s confidence in Vietnam as a strategic production hub and investment base within its regional growth strategy, the Bangkok Post reported on December 9.
The discussions highlighted ThaiBev’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Vietnamese authorities to develop a sustainable value chain and strengthen the Group’s contribution to the local economy.
Industry and Trade Minister Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed ThaiBev’s continued engagement and acknowledged the Group’s longstanding contributions to Vietnam’s economic and social development. Japan: Asahi sees sales fall at faster pace in November
|
Asahi Breweries Ltd. said on December 10 that its sales fell at a faster pace in November than in the previous month, as shipments were delayed following a computer system failure due to a cyberattack on its parent company in late September.
Sales by Asahi Breweries dropped by over 20 pct year-on-year in November in value after falling by nearly 10 pct in the previous month as the company was forced to limit shipments of products for year-end gifts.
The combined sales volume of beer, “happoshu” quasi-beer and “third-segment” beer-like beverages at three major Japanese brewers, excluding Asahi Breweries, fell 7 pct in November, according to an industry estimate.
Sales of beer alone shrank 5 pct because of fewer shipment days than a year before, while those of happoshu and third-segment beverages each decreased 9 pct.
“Purchases have continued to be restrained since price increases by the four major brewers in April,” an industry official said.

UK: Diageo to launch Guinness Open Gate Brewery in London on December 11
|
Diageo has announced the opening of Guinness Open Gate Brewery, a new £73m visitor experience and working microbrewery in London’s Covent Garden, Drinks International reported on December 9.
The 54,000ft venue features a working microbrewery where master brewer Hollie Stephenson will create limited-edition craft beers and seasonal specials, as well as guided tours of the brewery, exclusive tasting sessions, and a 360-degree digital experience.
The venue also includes two restaurants led by British chef Pip Lacey, a ground-level courtyard bar and eatery, two retail stores, and a private-hire event venue.
“London has played a critical role in Guinness’ success throughout its history, and two centuries after the black stuff arrived in the UK capital, one in seven pints poured in the city is now a Guinness. This iconic stout has always been about bringing people together, and Open Gate Brewery London builds on that tradition, creating a vibrant space where both visitors and the local community can connect, celebrate, and experience the very best of Guinness hospitality,” said Barry O’Sullivan, managing director of Diageo Great Britain.
Guinness Open Gate Brewery will create up to 250 new jobs and serve as the southern UK hub for Diageo’s Learning for Life programme, offering free hospitality training

|
HiteJinro announced on December 8 that it has promoted Jang In-seop, 58 years old, head of the management division, to vice president and designated him as CEO.

HiteJinro stated, “The new management structure is part of future growth strategies to overcome stagnation in the domestic alcohol market and actively expand into overseas markets.”

Outgoing CEO Kim, who is handing over the leadership position, was the longest-serving CEO among major domestic food and beverage companies. During his tenure, he solidified the company’s top position in the soju industry and contributed to narrowing the gap with the leader in the beer market.

UK: Diageo's Belfast workers to resume strike action over pay dispute
|
Britain's Unite union said on December 9 some workers at Diageo's Belfast packaging site voted to reject the company's improved pay offer and resume a previously suspended eight-day strike action in December.
About 90 workers at Diageo's Belfast site are demanding a substantial pay increase to close the pay gap with employees at Diageo's site in Runcorn, England.
However, a Diageo spokesperson said that the company expects no disruption to Guinness or Guinness 0.0 supplies over Christmas due to the union's renewed strike action plans.
