Brewery news USA: AB InBev to spend US$30m to upgrade Jacksonville, Florida brewery
The US arm of AB InBev is set to spend US$30m to upgrade production and packaging operations at its Jacksonville, Florida brewery and can plant, Global Drinks Intel reported on January 6.

The investment, announced today (6 January), will focus on an increase in production of the group’s Michelob Ultra brand. It will fund equipment upgrades across brewing tanks and bottling lines at the Anheuser-Busch site, expanding capacity to support rising demand for the light lager, which has become the company’s top-selling beer in the US.

The spend forms part of Anheuser-Busch’s broader ‘Brewing Futures’ programme, under which the company has invested around $300m across its US manufacturing footprint over the past year. Since 2021, according to the unit, around $100m has been spent on the Jacksonville site, and close to $2bn across its US operations over the past five years.

In September, Anheuser-Busch announced plans to spend US$9.2m on its facility in Cartersville, Georgia.

Brewery news USA: AB InBev reacquires stake in US container plant
Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV will reacquire a 49.9% stake in its US metal container plants from a consortium of institutional investors led and advised by Apollo Global Management Inc. in a deal estimated to be around $3 billion, Bloomberg reported on January 6.

The metal container plant operations include seven facilities across six states and form a strategic component of the company’s supply chain in the US, AB InBev said in a statement. The maker of Stella Artois and Budweiser beer will fund the purchase with cash on hand.

The world’s largest brewer previously sold the stake to Apollo for $3 billion in 2020 in a deal aimed at helping it pay down debt, which ballooned following the takeover of rival SABMiller in 2016.

Shares of AB InBev fell a little over 1% in early trading. The stock rose nearly 14% in 2025.

Brewers are facing challenging conditions across all markets at the moment as consumers rein in spending and as the effect of tariffs take effect. Last year US President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs on steel and aluminum and said the measures were intended to secure the future of the American steel industry.

On January 6, AB InBev said by regaining full ...More info on site

Brewery news India: Shanishvara Alcobev acquires land for new greenfield brewery in Wada, Palghar district
Shanishvara Alcobev Asia Pvt Ltd has finalised the acquisition of land for a new greenfield brewery in Wada, Palghar district, marking a key step in expanding its manufacturing footprint in Maharashtra. The upcoming facility is planned as a state-of-the-art production hub aimed at meeting rising demand for both premium and value-led alcoholic beverages across Western India, Spiritz reported on December 27.

The brewery will feature a dual-infrastructure setup, housing high-speed bottling lines for glass-packaged beers and spirits alongside advanced canning facilities to address the growing consumer preference for aluminium cans, particularly in the craft and premium beer segments. This multi-format capability sets the unit apart from many regional facilities that operate with a single packaging focus.

Led by Dhun Thacker, Shanishvara Alcobev has recently entered into strategic partnerships with multiple brands, and the Wada brewery is expected to play a central role in producing the company’s internal labels. While technical specifications are yet to be disclosed, the company has confirmed that the facility will deploy modern technologies focused on water optimisation and energy efficiency, in line with MIDC and State Pollution Control Board norms.

The project is also expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment opportunities for the local Palghar community across ...More info on site

Brewery news South Korea: Number of beer pubs up in Korea but average sales decline
The number of beer pubs has grown in South Korea, but average sales are on the decline. As overall alcohol consumption falls, analysts say the sector has been affected by shifting drinking trends, ChosunBiz reported on January 5.

According to the latest survey by the Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS) on the 5th, the number of draft beer and other pub franchise locations reached 12,939 in 2024, up 9.0% from a year earlier. It was the largest increase among all franchise categories. However, sales per draft beer and other pub franchise location were 256.9 million won, down 1.3% from 260.3 million won a year earlier. Sales per employee at draft beer and other pub franchises were 90.7 million won, 20% lower than the all-industry franchise average of 113.4 million won.

Growth has also cooled for leading draft beer franchises that operate hundreds of locations. According to the Korea Fair Trade Commission's franchise information disclosure system, Yeokjeon Halmeoni Beer increased its store count from 861 in 2022 to 926 in 2023 and 968 in 2024, but the average franchise sales in 2024 were 430.23 million won, down 5.1% from the previous year.
