USA, CO: Goat Patch Brewing Company to open new Monument location on January 9
|
Goat Patch Brewing Company will hold a ribbon-cutting on Friday, Jan. 9 to open its new Monument location after acquiring Pikes Peak Brewing Company in 2024, Fox21 News Colorado reported on January 7.
After serving the Monument community for over 13 years, Chris and Judi Wright, the founders of Pikes Peak, decided to retire from the brewing industry. In November 2024, Goat Patch announced it would be acquiring the Monument location on Lake Woodmoor Drive.
According to Goat Patch, since acquiring the assets of Pikes Peak Brewing in December of 2024, Goat Patch has heavily invested in the Monument facility— upgrading equipment, modernizing the brewing system, and restoring the foundation for future growth.
“Moving forward as Goat Patch – Monument allows us to focus all resources on one unified brand with consistent standards and vision,” said Goat Patch Co-Owner Cate Baze.
The Monument location joins two others in the Colorado Springs area–the flagship location on Cascade Avenue off Fillmore Street and the Northgate location on Voyager Parkway.
The ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, January 9 at 5 p.m. with live music by Rafiel & the Roomshakers to follow from 6 to 8 p.m.

USA, CA: Malibu Brewing Company announces significant expansions after just three years of business
|
In just three short years after opening its doors at Trancas Country Market, Malibu Brewing Company is taking a major step forward, announcing two significant expansions: a second brewery and restaurant in Agoura Hills and an exciting new location at Universal CityWalk, The Malibu Times reported on January 8.
For co-owners Jill and Ryan Ahrens, the growth reflects both careful planning and deep community roots, particularly in Malibu, where the brewery first found its footing in September 2022.
“We’re a local, family-owned business,” Ryan Ahrens explained. “And everything we’ve done has been shaped by the community that supported us from the beginning.”
That support became especially evident during Malibu’s most difficult moments. In the aftermath of the Palisades Fire, Malibu Brewing partnered with World Central Kitchen, opening its facility to serve free, fresh meals to residents and first responders when Malibu was cut off from most of the area due to the closure of Pacific Coast Highway. What was initially expected to be a short-term effort stretched into nearly three months as the Ahrens continued meal production even after normal dine-in service resumed.
“It went on much longer than we ever thought it would,” Jill Ahrens said. “But it felt important to keep it

Spain & USA: Mahou San Miguel to launch its first non-alcoholic beer in the US
|
Mahou San Miguel, a leading Spanish brewing company, is expanding its presence in the United States with the launch of its first non-alcoholic beer in the market. The new product, Founders Nonetheless, marks a significant step for the company as it brings its expertise in non-alcoholic beers to American consumers. The launch comes at a time when non-alcoholic options are gaining popularity in the U.S., especially during Dry January, a month when many people choose to abstain from alcohol, Vinetur reported on January 9.
Founders Nonetheless is a non-alcoholic lager inspired by traditional brewing methods. It is produced using the same process and quality standards that Founders has maintained for three decades. Mahou San Miguel has been present in the U.S. for over ten years and currently operates three production facilities in the country. The company’s decision to introduce this new product aligns with its strategy to diversify and strengthen its position in one of its key international markets.
Elton Andres Knight, CEO of Mahou USA, said that high-quality non-alcoholic beverages are one of the most important trends in the American beverage sector. He explained that with Founders Nonetheless, the brand is evolving to reach new consumers while maintaining its commitment to

USA, AL: Red Clay Brewing Co. to end operations in March
|
The owners of Opelika’s Red Clay Brewing Co. say it will close in March, al.com reported on January 5.
The brewery on North Railroad Avenue posted a notice on social media on January 5 that it will, “with a heavy heart,” shut its doors in the same month it celebrates its 11th anniversary.
The brewery was founded by Auburn graduates Kerry McGinnis and John Corbin along with co-owner Stephen Harle.
“For the past decade, Red Clay has been more than just a taproom; it has been a front-row seat to the growth of our incredible community,” the notice reads.
“It has been an absolute honor to serve you, to celebrate your milestones, and to be a part of the fabric of downtown Opelika.”
The brewery plans to remain open through March as it sells its inventory and breaks down the brewing equipment.
The owners also have a few special events on tap in the months ahead, the notice states.
Alabama’s once burgeoning craft brewing industry has seen contraction in recent years as reduced foot traffic and economic headwinds have impacted sales.
Brewer’s Cooperative in Huntsville closed last October. Helena’s Oversoul Brewing Co. shuttered in September, and Birmingham’s Uproot closed in July, with plans to continue through contract brewing.

USA, ME: Rail Yard Brewing and Rusty Rail Tap Room welcomed in Milo
|
Friends of Milo, a local community group in Milo, welcomed the newly-opened Rail Yard Brewing and Rusty Rail Tap Room with a special certificate on January 8, WABI reported.
After much of the Milo community was devastated with the closing of the popular Bissell Brothers Three Rivers Brewery in 2024, Mainers John Riitano and Tracy Bonney-Corson took over the space and wanted to bring it to life with another community staple.
John and Tracy take a lot of pride in being able to reinvigorate what was once a bustling hotspot in town, with their own twist.
“It’s heartwarming; this is what we intended. It was our marketing plan: to be a community focused entity, not to recreate what already exists somewhere else, but to make this about Mil,” said co-owner Tracy Bonney Corson.
They are also grateful to have the wind at their backs.
“The overwhelming support from the community has been great. That has been the highlight and that’s basically what we want to become, a community hub for people to come hang out and just bring family, friends, and loved ones and just come here and have a good time,” said co-owner John Riitano.

USA, AZ: Oro Brewing Co.’s last business date to be January 25
|
“Punch right to the gut.”
“This one hurts.”
“You will be missed Dave and crew.”
Those were just a sampling of the Instagram comments under a post from Oro Brewing Co. on January 7 announcing its closing and its last day of taproom service will be January 25, the Phoenix Magazine reported.
Owner Dave Valencia began his lengthy post with “TIME TO SAY SO LONG…” and said he is “indeed wrapping up our over-9-year run in Downtown Mesa.”
Valencia is also partnered with Golden Oak Barbecue + Taproom which opened last year in Downtown Phoenix and serves Oro beer. It’s unclear at this time how Oro’s closing impacts this new spot.
Oro first opened in 2016 and for years lived by the motto “The Best Brewery You’ve Never Heard Of.” That was before it started capturing major accolades including:
• 2022 Arizona Craft Beer Awards Brewery of the Year
• 8-time gold medal winner at the Arizona Craft Beer Awards
• World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival medals
Oro is also the longest-operating brewery in Mesa since The Beer Research Institute shut down production last March and Desert Eagle closed in 2022. Main Street in Downtown Mesa is still home to 12 West Brewing, Phantom Fox Beer Co., Pedal Haus

Ireland: Drinks Ireland research shows sector is vital to local economies
|
Drinks Ireland has published new research showing clear public recognition of the industry’s important role in supporting local economies, as well as the strong continuation of moderate and responsible drinking.
The findings from the survey – carried out by Opinions, on behalf of the organisation – highlight a sector deeply embedded in community life and reveal significant changes in how people choose to drink.
It also uncovered the important role of alcoholic drinks in local economies, with 73% of drinkers surveyed agreeing that local breweries and distilleries make a positive contribution to their communities, while 80% say these producers provide important employment at a regional level.
Some 81% consider Irish breweries and distilleries to be important to the national tourism offering, and 67% believe having a drink plays an important role in bringing people together, highlighting the importance of hospitality venues in Irish social life.
Beyond an economic impact, the industry fosters connection by providing places where people gather, with pubs acting as economic drivers, as well as hubs of social connection.
The report also points to a sustained national movement towards more balanced drinking habits, which is unsurprising, as Ireland’s per-capita alcohol consumption has fallen by 34% over the last two decades, marking a

World: Castel heiress fails to secure dismissal of group CEO
|
This Thursday, January 8 in Singapore, Romy Castel, the heiress of the Castel group, one of the world's heavyweights in wine and drinks trading and production, was unable to secure the dismissal of Gregory Clerc, the CEO who took over in 2023. A global saga whose last straw was the removal of Alain Castel from the Luxembourg holding company in early December, Delano.lu reported.
"I am the sole guarantor of my father's values!" Romy Castel, 52, heiress to the late founder of the Castel empire, broke with her legendary discretion on Thursday in an interview with Challenges and in a press release. On the eve of an extraordinary general meeting of the Investment Beverage Business Fund, in Singapore, the bridgehead of the company, Romy Castel stated that she had obtained 97% of the voting rights to dismiss Gregory Clerc, the CEO of the group since 2023. According to Bloomberg, she was unable to register these voting rights in order to achieve her aims. In this kind of situation, in Luxembourg, the next step is to go to court but a new general meeting is expected to be held in late January, according to the family, as quoted by AFP. “Gregory Clerc

Brazil: Brazil becomes second-largest market for Johnie Walker whiskey
|
Brazilians’ increasing interest in alcoholic drinks other than beer has led the British multinational Diageo to double its revenue in the country between 2019 and 2025. This made Brazil the second largest consumer of Johnnie Walker whisky in the world last year, Diageo Brazil CEO Paula Lindenberg told Valor.
This growth contrasts with the scare caused by the methanol contamination crisis in September. According to Lindenberg, the sector has already seen a significant recovery, but sales have not yet fully recovered.
“We often read that alcohol consumption in Brazil is decreasing, but what the numbers show is a growing market [especially given the low penetration of some types of beverages]. It is a market that is growing significantly due to increased premium offerings. This [growth in the premium market] is reflected both in beer, which is the major beverage industry, and in spirits, especially cocktails and wines,” said Lindenberg. Among the brands in the group’s portfolio are Tanqueray, Smirnoff, and Cîroc.
The group does not disclose revenue details in Brazil, but noted that the country is one of its global growth engines. Diageo recorded net sales of $4.9 billion in the first fiscal quarter of 2026 (i.e., between July and September 2025), a

Australia: Sales of biggest independent non-alcoholic beer brand explode over holidays
|
Sales for Australia’s biggest independent non-alcoholic beer brand exploded over Christmas and the New Year – a clear indicator the country's appetite for zero per cent beverages is not waning, 9News reported on January 9.
Heaps Normal experienced its biggest two-month period of sales during November and December 2025 since its launch in 2020, with about a 25 per cent year-on-year growth recorded for its range of dry beverages.
Head of sales Johnny Tostevin told nine.com.au he expects the bumper festive sales period won't quite be matched in January even as alcohol-free New Year's resolutions kick in or during Dry July.
"January will be a little bit down from there, but it's still been really strong, a lot stronger than what we'd find in the middle of winter in July," he said.
"We've definitely more than doubled over the last four years.
"We've seen some really, really steep, steep rises."
Heaps Normal had a huge 2025.
The zero-alcohol brand branched out to the UK and is stocked in over 170 British pubs and shops, with music superstar Robbie Williams joining as an investor.
Its products can also be found in thousands of pubs and retailers across Australia.
Tostevin said he's noticed the casual Australian drinker is now dabbling in

Kenya: Kenya court postpones hearing on bid to block Diageo-Asahi deal
|
A court in Kenya has delayed a hearing on an attempt to halt the sale of Diageo's business in the country to Asahi Group Holdings, Yahoo Finance reported on January 9.
In December, Asahi agreed to pay $2.3bn for Diageo’s 65% stake in East African Breweries (EABL) and its 53.7% shareholding in Kenyan spirits group UDVK.
Earlier this week, Bia Tosha, a former distributor for Diageo in Kenya, applied for an ex parte injunction to block the stake sale.
It is now understood the request had been refused as the judge had asked to hear from both sides in the case.
In a statement on January 9, the publicly listed EABL, which produces the Tusker and Serengeti beer brands, confirmed the High Court in Kenya has "issued a temporary preservation order" valid until 20 January, "restraining only the final steps of the sale".
Kenneth Liplagat, a partner at law firm Okoth & Kiplagat Advocates representing Bia Tosha in the case, confirmed the hearing had been postponed.
"In the meanwhile, the judge gave a conservatory order preventing Diageo from transferring the shares until the next hearing on 20th January," he told Just Drinks.
EABL said in its statement the latest order is not expected to affect the timeline

India: United Breweries launches new Kingfisher Smooth beer
|
Bengaluru-based United Breweries Limited (UBL), part of the HEINEKEN Company, has launched Kingfisher Smooth, that expands the Kingfisher portfolio within India’s mainstream strong beer segment, The Hindu Business Line reported on January 7.
Kingfisher Smooth has been rolled out in Rajasthan, one of India’s largest strong beer markets. UBL CEO Vivek Gupta said the company plans to scale the launch nationwide over the next 12–18 months.
“Our role is to be the category maker, capitalising on the large opportunity to grow the beer category in India. Currently, if people consume alcohol around 10 times a year, beer accounts for only about two occasions, underscoring both low per capita beer consumption and its limited share of drinking occasions,” Gupta explained.
He said consumer feedback indicated demand for a strong yet more sessionable beer with lower bitterness, which prompted the company to look at category expansion. Among all the brands, Kingfisher, he noted, was best placed to drive that expansion. He expressed confidence about Kingfisher Smooth helping expand both the category and the brand.
“Mainstream consumers remain the backbone of the category, and we continue to perform strongly there. While premium is growing at over 20% this year, this launch is aimed at reviving the mainstream

UK: Beer tax means pubs have lost 50pc of sales to supermarkets, says Wetherspoons boss
|
Pubs have lost half their beer sales to supermarkets because “perverse” taxes have driven up the price of a pint, the boss of JD Wetherspoon has said.
Sir Tim Martin, the founder and chairman of the chain, said harsher taxes were to blame for the growing price gap between pubs and supermarkets, which he said “may well be the straw that breaks the industry’s back”.
It comes as the Chancellor scrambles to hash out a support package for pubs, following a Telegraph campaign to save the industry from ruinous taxes and red tape.
Publicans have hit out at Rachel Reeves’s overhaul of business rates, saying it is pushing them to the brink as they also battle soaring energy prices and staff costs, which have risen after the Chancellor’s National Insurance raid and a string of minimum wage rises.
Venues are also bracing for a further hit from Labour’s plans to cut the drink-driving limit.
Sir Tim said: “Pubs have lost 50pc of beer sales to supermarkets since the millennium, as the supermarket tax advantage has allowed them to widen the price disparity with pubs – by reducing their prices.
“A fairer business rates regime is vital, but VAT equality is even more important.”
Pubs are liable to
