Brewery news Germany: Mannheim-based brewer Eichbaum to cut around 100 jobs in the coming months
The insolvent Mannheim-based brewery Eichbaum will cut around 100 jobs in the coming months, reducing its workforce by roughly one third. Currently employing just under 290 people, the company plans to reduce headcount to fewer than 200 in an effort to stabilize operations and attract investors.

Co-managing director Uwe Aichele described the step as painful but unavoidable, emphasizing that the downsizing is necessary to secure the remaining business. His fellow managing director, Frank Reifel, a restructuring specialist who joined the company in October as part of a turnaround management team, is leading ongoing discussions with potential buyers. According to Reifel, both financial investors and strategic investors have expressed interest. The formal insolvency proceedings were officially opened on January 1, 2026.

The works council, represented by Umut As, characterized the situation as a fight for survival. Due to persistent underutilization of brewing capacity, the company sees no alternative but to scale down in order to improve its appeal to investors. Employees were informed about the planned redundancies at a staff meeting at the end of January. Production staff is expected to be most affected, although administrative roles and technical personnel may also face cuts.

Eichbaum has struggled with declining volumes for some time, primarily ...More info on site

Brewery news World: Diageo chief executive reportedly planning a major shake-up of executive team
New Diageo chief executive Dave Lewis is planning a major shake-up of his executive team, the Financial Times reported on February 20, citing people familiar with the matter.

Lewis is looking to replace several members of the company's 14-person executive committee, the report said, adding that he aims to push through a "wholesale change", likely stripping out entire layers of Diageo’s management.

Diageo declined to comment on the Financial Times report.

Diageo appointed former Tesco boss Lewis as CEO in November last year, turning to an outsider to revive growth at the world's largest spirits maker during a challenging period.

Lewis, who is known for fixing businesses through cost-cutting, earning the nickname "Drastic Dave", has been tasked with turning around the Johnnie Walker whisky and Guinness maker, which is grappling with tariff hikes in the US, its biggest market.

Brewery news Kazakhstan & Russia: Russia emerges as leading beer supplier to Kazakhstan
Russia has emerged as the leading supplier of beer to Kazakhstan, with export volumes reaching a three-year high in monetary terms by the end of last year, CaspianPost.com reported on February 19.

The total value of Russian beer shipments to the country climbed to $33 million, marking a 36 per cent increase over the previous year. The last time exports approached similar levels was in 2022, when deliveries reached $38.3 million, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

The sharp growth has allowed Russia to secure a dominant 60 per cent share of Kazakhstan’s beer imports. Germany and Bulgaria also made the top three exporters, accounting for 8 per cent and around 5 per cent of imports respectively.

The surge in beer exports reflects a broader expansion of Russian food and beverage supplies to Kazakhstan. In 2025, Russian chocolate exports to the country jumped by 58 per cent, hitting a record $334.5 million. Russia subsequently became the top chocolate exporter to its neighbor, with Ukraine and the Czech Republic trailing far behind.
