Hong Kong: San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong reports solid turnaround for 2025
|
San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Limited reported a solid turnaround for the year ended 31 December 2025, with revenue rising to HK$737.3 million from HK$711.2 million and gross profit improving to HK$295.6 million, TipRanks said on February 25.
The group swung from a loss to a net profit of HK$78.4 million, driven by higher sales, better cost of sales, and the absence of the HK$90 million impairment on non-current assets booked in 2024.
Operating profit reached HK$96.9 million compared with a loss of HK$21.3 million a year earlier, while selling, distribution, and administrative expenses were kept broadly stable.
Earnings attributable to equity shareholders climbed to HK$76.1 million, translating into basic earnings per share of 20 Hong Kong cents versus a loss per share of 5 cents in 2024, signaling a significant recovery for shareholders and an improved financial footing for the brewery.
San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Limited is a Hong Kong-incorporated brewer listed on the local stock exchange. The company, together with its subsidiaries, operates in the beer and beverage industry, generating revenue primarily from the production and sale of beer and related products across its regional markets.

South Africa: Alcohol industry welcomes inflation-linked sin tax increases
|
Alcohol producers have expressed strong support for the government's decision to restrict sin tax increases to inflation rates, emphasising that such predictable adjustments are essential for maintaining industry stability and combating illicit trade, IOL.co.za reported on February 25.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced that these increases in "sin taxes" are necessary, despite a more optimistic revenue forecast for the country.
As a result, the tax on tobacco products will rise in line with inflation in 2026/27, including taxes on electronic nicotine and non-nicotine delivery systems, Godongwana announced.
• The tax on a pack of 20 cigarettes increases from R22.81 to R23.58.
• Pipe tobacco rises by 28 cents per 25 grams.
• Cigarette tobacco increases by 87 cents per 50 grams.
• Cigars increase by R4.56 per 23 grams.
Excise duties on alcoholic beverages will also increase at inflationary levels.
• A 340ml can of beer or cider increases by 8 cents.
• A 750ml bottle of wine rises by 15 cents.
• A 750ml bottle of spirits increases by R3.20.
• Inflation is currently running at 3.5%.
Heineken Beverages said the minister’s approach reflected consideration of economic pressures and the rapid growth of illegal alcohol sales.
Millicent Maroga, corporate affairs director at Heineken Beverages, said inflation-linked increases promote fairness, stability, and long-term sustainability across alcohol categories.
Maroga said keeping excise

Italy: Heineken invests in new rainwater reuse project at is Massafra brewery
|
Heineken Italy said it had invested €700,000 to save 13,000 cubic meters of water annually at its Massafra brewery, equivalent to about five Olympic-sized swimming pools, EFA News reported on February 26.
The new rainwater reuse project was launched by Heineken Italia in collaboration with the Apulian company Technoacque, based in Fasano (Brindisi).
The Taranto brewery, a beer production hub for Puglia and the entire South, thus confirms its leadership in water management: by the end of 2025, it had already exceeded the target of 2.9 hectoliters of water per hectoliter of beer produced set by Heineken Global for 2030, reaching 2.80 hl/hl.
In an area that frequently faces water crises and low rainfall, the Massafra site is called upon to meet more ambitious goals and has set a new target: reducing consumption to below 2.6 hl of water per hl of beer produced by 2030.
The new system, designed by Technoacque, includes a system for refining and reusing the brewery's first-run rainwater. The recovered water will be used entirely in the brewery's technical processes, such as cooling machinery and lubrication systems, without any contact with the product. The project is part of the global responsible resource management strategy "Brew a Better World,"

India: AB InBev launches Corona Cero in India
|
AB InBev India has announced the launch of Corona Cero, a zero-alcohol version of its flagship Corona beer, in India. The product will be priced at Rs 120 and distributed across modern trade outlets, e-commerce platforms and select on-premises locations nationwide, Best Media Info reported on February 26.
The introduction of Corona Cero comes as India’s non-alcohol beer segment records steady growth. According to the company, the category grew by nearly 25% over the past year, while AB InBev India reported high double-digit growth, exceeding the broader market rate.
Commenting on the launch, Vineet Sharma, Vice President, Marketing & Trade Marketing, AB InBev India, said, “We’re excited to introduce Corona Cero to India at a time when consumers are embracing more mindful choices without compromising on taste or experience.
Corona Cero delivers everything people love about Corona, the refreshment, the flavour, and that unmistakable feeling of relaxing and unwinding, now with zero alcohol. This launch strengthens our non-alcohol beer portfolio and advances our commitment to smart drinking in India.”
The company stated that the launch forms part of its wider strategy to expand its non-alcohol offerings in India, where the segment remains relatively small but is developing quickly. It also links the introduction to

Ireland: Winter barley, wheat area increase in 2026
|
Winter barley and wheat area is estimated up, while the area of winter oats is estimated to have dropped dramatically in Ireland, The Farmers Journal reported on February 25.
The area of land planted to winter barley and winter wheat is estimated to have increased in 2026. At a workshop held by the Irish Seed Trade Association (ISTA) this week it was noted that seed sales for both crops had increased. Winter barley area is estimated up by approximately 8,000ha, which would bring the total area to about 65,500ha. Winter wheat area increased by an estimated 3,000ha. This would bring the area to almost 63,000ha.
Winter oats area has taken a dramatic drop, although it is not known by how much as some seed will be used for spring crops, but appetite for the crop dropped as Irish feed oats currently sit in storage across the country with no market.

Canada: Diageo closes Ontario plant two days ahead of schedule
|
Diageo has closed its Crown Royal whisky plant in Amherstburg, Ontario two days ahead of schedule, without advance warning to workers, Unifor reported on February 25.
“This is a final show of disrespect for Canadian workers as Diageo moves their jobs south of the border to appease Donald Trump,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “This is a sad day for our members and for this community, which has a century long storied history of whisky making.”
Six months ago, Diageo announced plans to close the Amherstburg plant and eliminate the jobs of more than 200 Unifor Local 200 members. Despite the efforts of the union and offers from the Ontario government, the company refused to reverse its decision to shift production to the U.S., with the final day of work scheduled for February 27, 2026.
“It’s clear Diageo didn’t want to face the scrutiny that would have come on the final day of operations, so its overseas executives opted to slink out of Ontario instead,” said Unifor Local 200 President John D’Agnolo. “Canadians will not forget that Diageo is a company that chose to walk away from a loyal workforce and add insult to injury by bottling a marquee Canadian whisky
