South Korea: HiteJinro takes over distribution of Miller Genuine Draft in Korea
|
HiteJinro, Korea’s leading liquor maker, said on March 31 it has taken over domestic distribution of Miller Genuine Draft starting this month, bringing the American lager back to the Korean market, The Korea Times reported.
Miller Genuine Draft is a lager produced by Molson Coors Beverage Company, the global brewing conglomerate. Launched in 1985, the beer is brewed through a four-stage cold filtration process and contains 4.7 percent alcohol by volume.
HiteJinro said the brand will be available in two formats: a 500 milliliter can for the retail channel and a 330 milliliter bottle for on-premise venues such as bars and restaurants. Distribution through both channels begins nationwide today.
To mark its return to the Korean market, Miller Genuine Draft has updated its packaging.
The redesign retains the brand's signature "M" logo while applying a brighter gold color scheme intended to reinforce its genuine image. An online marketing campaign tied to the brand's "Break the Mold" concept will also launch Tuesday through the brand's official Korean Instagram account.
"Miller Genuine Draft is a brand that has long been loved in global markets for its smooth taste and intense freshness," a HiteJinro official said.
"We hope moments shared with Miller Genuine Draft will be remembered as meaningful

Ireland: Diageo invests EUR1.9 mln in community programmes in 2025
|
Diageo's 2025 Community Impact Report shows the drinks giant invested €1.9m in community programmes nationwide last year, Business Plus reported on April 3.
The report highlights Diageo's long-standing commitment to the communities in which it operates and demonstrates how sustained, meaningful investment supports the long-term vitality of those neighbourhoods.
Diageo made investments in educators, hospitality workers, community groups and local charities, as well as in cultural organisations such as the Dublin Fringe Festival, the Dublin Gallery Weekend, and Culture Night through the Guinness Storehouse.
Furthermore, 1,100 Diageo Ireland employees took part in community activities during the year, contributing 788 volunteering hours with organisations like the Capuchin Day Centre and Little Flower Penny Dinners, in addition to helping to raise €12,000 for charities like St Vincent de Paul and the Dublin Simon Community.
The report details Diageo’s investment in education and skills development, with €384,000 directed towards training programmes and hospitality scholarships through Diageo’s Learning for Life and Hospitality Access schemes.
A total of 1,940 people nationwide benefited from these initiatives, helping to build a strong talent pipeline for the hospitality sector and creating long-term professional pathways for learners.
The group invested €400,000 in Dublin cultural and creative organisations during the year and through the Guinness Storehouse's

Kenya: Minority shareholder in East African Breweries opposes takeover by Asahi Group
|
A minority shareholder in East African Breweries Plc (EABL) has opposed a proposed regulatory exemption that would allow Japan’s Asahi Group Holdings to take control of the firm without making a mandatory takeover offer to other investors, Capital FM reported on April 1.
The objection relates to Asahi’s planned acquisition of Diageo Kenya Limited, which holds about 65 percent of EABL shares.
The transaction is valued at $2.3 billion (Sh299 billion), translating to approximately Sh590.78 per share.
In a letter to the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), lawyers representing shareholder Shane Ngechu argued that granting the exemption would undermine takeover rules and disadvantage minority investors.
They noted that the acquisition at the holding company level would effectively give Asahi indirect control of EABL, a publicly listed firm, without extending an offer to all shareholders.
The shareholder has urged CMA to clarify safeguards in place to protect minority investors and to compel Asahi to make a full takeover offer on terms similar to those agreed with Diageo.
The regulator has yet to make a determination on the request.

UK: Majority of winter barley crops looking well across most regions
|
The Agricultural and Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) is confirming that the majority of winter barley crops are looking well across most regions of the UK, Agriland confirmed on April 2.
In terms of development, the crops are ranging from tillering to Growth Stage 31.
Growers are uniformly reporting that crops are generally clean with good establishment levels achieved.
Yellowing is common in winter barley, largely due to nitrogen deficiency.
In Eastern England, crops initially improved after fertiliser application but have since lost some colour again.
Meanwhile in Scotland, deficiency symptoms are more pronounced than in wheat.
Northern Ireland reports mixed responses, with some crops showing strong recovery following early nitrogen, though plant growth regulators (PGR) will soon be needed.
In the south-east of England, most growers have either completed or are just about to apply their second nitrogen application.
Weed control in winter barley is generally good, with residual herbicides performing strongly across the UK.
Autumn treatments have been particularly effective in Northern Ireland, and East Midlands’ growers report excellent grass weed control following cinmethylin applications.
Pest pressure has increased slightly, with BYDV symptoms becoming more noticeable and some patchy plant losses where gout fly and virus stress have combined.
Reddening from cold weather and aphid activity is evident in places.
