Cyprus: Cyprus breweries facing challenges with a sharp decline in export
|
Cypriot breweries are facing challenges with a sharp decline in export volumes rocking the sector alongside domestic market contraction and delivery issues, The Drinks Business (db) reported on July 9.
According to data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT), the Cyprus beer sector has shown a substantial decline in exports, equal to 38.3%.
The CYSTAT revealed that beer export volumes in Cyprus plummeted to 151,321 litres, showing a huge contrast of nearly two fifths of what it was compared to the 245,087 litres that the market’s breweries sent overseas last year.
Comparatively, the total volume of beer delivered to the domestic market and for export reached 4,716,070 litres in June 2026 compared with 4,846,927 litres recorded in June 2025, representing a 2.7% contraction.
According to the statistics, beer deliveries to the domestic market only saw a marginal decline of 0.8% in June 2026 compared with June 2025, totalling 4,564,749 litres.
The most famous Cypriot beers are the 4.5% ABV Pilsner-style lager KEO which s brewed in Limassol and the country’s oldest commercial brew Leon, according to Beers of Europe.
In a report from Forbes earlier this year, indications were that beer consumption in Cyprus in 2026 started on a strong note and, according to new

South Korea: OB Brewery achieves No. 1 manufacturer market share in South Korea’s non-alcoholic beverage market
|
OB Brewery recorded the No. 1 manufacturer market share in South Korea’s non-alcoholic beverage market in the first quarter of this year, securing market leadership, Business Korea reported on July 9.
According to market research firm Nielsen Korea, OB Brewery achieved a 40.31% share of the domestic take-home market in the first quarter of this year based on non-alcoholic beverage sales value. This was the highest figure among manufacturers producing non-alcoholic beverages in South Korea. In particular, in brand-level tallies, the Cass non-alcoholic product lineup saw its share surge to 36%, closely chasing industry leader HiteJinro’s “Hite Zero 0.00” at 36.8%, a gap of 0.8 percentage points.
This performance by OB Brewery is seen as the result of an aggressive lineup expansion strategy. After first introducing the 355 ml “Cass 0.0” product in 2020, the company launched a larger 500 ml product in 2022, followed by imported beer brands Hoegaarden Zero and Budweiser Zero. This year, it further broadened consumer choice by adding “Cass Lemon Squeeze 0.0” and the alcohol-free beer “Cass All Zero.”
Building on its success in the take-home market, the company is also accelerating its territorial expansion into the dining-out market. OB Brewery released “Cass 0.0” and “Cass Lemon Squeeze

Brazil: Heineken claims Ambev breached antitrust settlement
|
Heineken has provided three reports from Tendências Consultoria to Brazil’s antitrust agency, Cade, claiming that competitor Ambev has not adhered to a 2023 settlement aimed at limiting the impact of its exclusive supply contracts with bars and restaurants. The reports describe this alleged non-compliance as “systemic.” Ambev has rejected these allegations.
Cade started examining exclusivity agreements in 2022, following Heineken's complaint that Ambev had too many exclusive contracts, especially in premium areas with many bars and restaurants. As part of the settlement, these restrictions will stay in place until December 2028.
Heineken said that since signing the settlement, the agreed-upon exclusivity limits have not been reached and has commissioned independent surveys. So far, none of these surveys have resulted in any changes to the agreement.
The settlement's compliance is overseen by a monitoring trustee appointed under the agreement. Tendências Consultoria states that “the convergence of evidence across different markets and over time reinforces the conclusion that the settlement agreement, in its current form, has not been an effective instrument for ensuring adequate competitive conditions in the beer market’s on-premise sales channel,” highlighting ongoing concerns about its effectiveness.
Cade declined to comment on the specific case. In a statement to Valor, the regulator explained that

Nigeria: International Breweries to reduce share capital
|
International Breweries Plc has announced plans to undertake a share capital reduction to eliminate negative retained earnings and restore its ability to pay dividends, while also proposing a return of excess capital to shareholders, Proshare reported on July 9.
In a corporate disclosure to Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the company stated that the proposed capital restructuring will be implemented in accordance with Section 131 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020 (as amended), subject to regulatory approvals and confirmation by the Federal High Court.Africans & Diaspora.
According to the company, the proposed transaction comprises two key elements: the elimination of its negative retained earnings through the application of a portion of its Share Premium Account, and a subsequent reduction of the Share Premium Account to facilitate a pro-rata return of excess capital to shareholders.
Although International Breweries returned to profitability in the 2025 financial year, it disclosed accumulated losses of N191.03 billion as of FY2025, which continue to prevent the company from declaring dividends. By offsetting these retained losses against its Share Premium Account, the company expects to restore distributable reserves and re-establish its capacity to pay dividends from future earnings.
Following the proposed elimination of the accumulated losses, the company
