Hong Kong: San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong provides group earnings guidance for six months to June 30
|
San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong Limited provided group earnings guidance for the six months ended 30 June 2026, MarketScreener reported.
For the period, the Group is expected to incur a consolidated net profit of approximately HKD 11.4 million for the six months ended 30 June 2026 as compared to the net profit of the Group for the same period in 20 25 of HKD 51.1 million.
The Board considers that such decrease is mainly attributable to the adverse impact of the Iran conflict and the resulting geopolitical tensions in the region.
These developments negatively affected export volumes and resulted to higher operating costs during the six months ended 30 June 2026.

Bulgaria: Zagorka to invest over 4.83 million euro in production of Heineken 0.0
|
Bulgarian brewer Zagorka will invest over 4.83 million euro in its plant in Stara Zagora for the production of Heineken 0.0 non-alcoholic beer and for renewable energy sources. Over 2.84 million euro of the amount is grant funding under the Development of Regions 2021-2027 Programme. The projected timeframe for the project's completion is 28 months, the Bulgarian company informed Capital.
The investment involves the construction of new production capacities for non-alcoholic beer and the implementation of specialized technology for the production of Heineken 0.0 at the brewery in Stara Zagora.
The company has long-standing experience in the production of non-alcoholic beer, but the technology for Heineken 0.0 is different, Zagorka clarified for Capital. The production process follows traditional brewing stages, after which it undergoes an additional process of precise alcohol separation using specialized equipment. In this way, the product's characteristic taste and aroma profiles are preserved.
Approximately 1.3 million euro of the funds are earmarked for specialized equipment, including a vacuum rectification column. The project also includes investments in infrastructure and product storage facilities.
Part of the investment is for the construction of a new, third photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 786.5 kWp, located on rooftop and ground areas at the brewery,

World: Diageo cutting staff in some parts of its business by up to 30%
|
Diageo is cutting staff in some parts of its business by about 20% to 30% as new chief executive Dave Lewis pushes deep overhead reductions to improve performance at the world’s largest spirits company, according to three people familiar with the plans, Vinetur reported on July 22.
The cuts mark one of the clearest signs yet of how aggressively Lewis is moving after taking over in January. He arrived at a difficult moment for the maker of Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Guinness owner-linked drinks brands, with weaker spirits demand, especially in the United States, weighing on sales and investor confidence. Lewis is expected to present his broader strategy at an investor day on August 6.
According to two of the people, Lewis gave the order for lower overhead spending during a meeting with Diageo business leaders in Edinburgh in the company’s fiscal fourth quarter, which ended in June. One person said a group of about 100 senior leaders is expected to end up 20% to 30% smaller once the restructuring is complete. Another said one large regional business unit is cutting between 25% and 30% of its staff.
That same person said Lewis also ordered overhead reductions of up to 40% in some

Nigeria: Tiger Beer targeting growth in Nigeria’s beer market
|
Drink maker Tiger Beer is targeting growth in Nigeria’s beer market with a refreshed product offering, updated visual identity and changes to its lager profile as consumer preferences continue to evolve, The Punch reported on July 22.
The brand, owned by Nigerian Breweries Plc, has introduced a new version of its lager featuring a smoother taste profile, reduced bitterness, lighter mouthfeel and cleaner finish, while retaining the characteristics associated with Tiger Beer.
The product update also includes redesigned packaging with a new die-cut label and refreshed visual elements as the company seeks to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s competitive beer market.
Portfolio Manager for Premium Beer at Nigerian Breweries Plc, Maria Shadeko, said the changes reflect shifts in consumer expectations and the evolving role of beer in social occasions.
“Consumers today are becoming more intentional about the experiences they choose. We are seeing growing interest in products that deliver refreshment while fitting naturally into social occasions. The refreshed Tiger responds to those changing preferences while remaining true to the brand’s identity,” Shadeko said in a statement.
The move comes as beverage companies adjust their strategies to changing consumption patterns, with consumers increasingly considering factors such as taste, quality and overall experience when making purchasing decisions.

USA: Alcohol sales continue to weaken in July
|
U.S. alcohol sales continued to weaken in early July, even as spirits and prepared cocktails held up better than wine and beer, according to new NIQ tracking data for the four weeks ended July 11, Vinetur reported on July 22.
Total alcohol sales reached $9.3 billion in the period, down 2.6% from a year earlier. Case volume fell more sharply, dropping 4.7% to 184.2 million cases. The figures point to a market where consumers are still buying, but often in smaller quantities, and where some categories are proving more resilient than others.
Prepared cocktails posted the strongest performance among major alcohol segments. Dollar sales edged up 0.3% from a year earlier, while case volume declined 4.8%. That gap between revenue and volume suggests pricing and mix continue to support the category even as unit demand softens. Premixed drinks have benefited from convenience and from their fit with summer drinking occasions, which remain important drivers during the warm-weather months.
Spirits also showed relative strength. Dollar sales were down 2.4% in the four-week period, while volume fell 3.9%, though NIQ separately described spirits volume at down 3.4% in a later breakdown of the same period. In either case, spirits declined less than total alcohol and

South Korea: South Korea tightens alcohol labeling rules for whisky, soju and beer
|
South Korea’s National Tax Service has revised a notice governing the manufacture, equipment and labeling of alcoholic beverages, adding clearer use-category marking rules for some of the country’s biggest beverage segments, including whisky, diluted soju and beer, Vinetur reported on July 22.
The updated notice, issued as NTS Notice No. 2026-24 and dated July 21, revises the broader order-delegation rules on the manufacture, facilities and labeling of alcohol. The agency posted the measure on Wednesday. The rules apply to alcohol manufacturers and importers when they make, store, move and report prices for alcoholic beverages, and they set requirements tied to raw materials, quality, equipment, quantities and trademark use.
A central change concerns how alcohol must be labeled by intended use. Under the revised text, alcoholic beverages are divided into three use categories: domestic use, entertainment restaurant use and liquor tax-exempt use. Manufacturers must place the use designation on the main label, while importers may place it on either the main label or a secondary label.
For whisky and other alcoholic drinks subject to RFID controls, as well as diluted soju and beer, the notice requires labels to carry either “domestic use” or “liquor tax-exempt use.” For other categories of alcohol, the rule requires

Colombia: World Cup makes beer sales soar
|
Beer sales in Colombia during the World Cup soared. Colombia’s run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup did more than unite millions of fans behind the national team while it lasted — it also transformed shopping habits across the country, sending beer sales soaring and boosting demand for snacks, prepared foods, televisions, and even air conditioners, Colombia One reported on July 22.
According to figures released by Colombian retail chain Olimpica S.A., every match played by the Colombian national team generated a significant spike in consumer spending compared with a typical day in June. The strongest growth was recorded in beer sales, which surged by as much as 460% during Colombia’s Round of 16 match.
The retailer reported that alcoholic beverage sales in general increased by more than 100% during each of Colombia’s five World Cup matches, highlighting how football continues to drive consumption during major international tournaments. The largest jump came during the knockout-stage clash, when sales in the alcoholic beverages category climbed 259% compared with an ordinary June day.
Beer was by far the standout product. Sales increased 221% during Colombia’s opening match, 285% in the second game, 132% in the third, and 310% during the fourth match before peaking with

Australia: Corona shifts to 330ml bottles as consumer preferences change
|
Asahi Beverages has updated the bottle size and recommended retail price for Corona in Australia to better align with shifting consumer preferences, the Drinks Trade reported on July 20.
The Mexican beer, which is owned by AB InBev and distributed by Asahi Beverages in Australia, will now be sold in 330ml bottles in Australia instead of the 355ml size, with the RRP also reduced so that consumers won’t pay any more per 100ml.
This is aligned with the broader international beer category in Australia where over half are now sold in 330ml bottle sizes or less.
Corona Marketing Manager Marc Slater said: “Corona remains the same crisp, refreshing beer Australians love. The size of Corona bottles in Australia is changing, largely in response to changing trends, which are seeing Australian beer drinkers increasingly mindful of their alcohol consumption and cost of living concerns.”
The 7 per cent reduction in liquid means each bottle will contain 1.2 standard drinks, down from 1.3.
Marc Slater says the RRP of a case will come down “by at least the same amount”, better positioning the leading Australian beer brand to meet shifting trends.
“People are looking for brands that offer value, choice and formats that suit different occasions. The move

Brazil: Ambev launches new alcohol-free beer containing 10 grams of protein
|
Ambev has raised the stakes in the premium beer segment—the industry’s crown jewel—with the launch of a new alcohol-free beverage containing 10 grams of protein, Spaten Pro. It’s the first protein-enriched beer AB InBev has developed anywhere in the world. According to Daniel Wakswaser, Ambev’s vice president of marketing, the move is part of the group’s broader push to create new occasions for consuming beer beyond bars and weekend get-togethers, Valor International reported on July 23.
The premium beer market and its subcategories—alcohol-free, gluten-free, lower-calorie—have drawn growing attention from the brewing industry. Premium beers accounted for about 4% of sales volumes in Brazil in 2010; last year, the segment topped 25%.
By contrast, Brazil’s total beer production fell 8.85%, to 15.688 million hectolitres. The decline mainly reflects weaker performance among mass-market brands, which have struggled as Brazilian consumers tighten household budgets. The figures come from the 2026 Beer Yearbook, published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) in partnership with the National Beer Industry Association (Sindicerv).
Wakswaser said health and wellness have become an increasingly important trend in the beverage industry, pointing to products such as Guaraná with added fiber and beers with lower alcohol content or no gluten as part of
