Brewery news USA: AB InBev announces $23 million investment in its Fort Collins, Colorado brewery
Anheuser-Busch InBev announced on September 21 a $23 million investment in its Fort Collins, Colorado brewery to expand production of Michelob ULTRA and enhance local manufacturing skills training.

This spending is part of the company’s $600 million Brewing Futures initiative across 2025–2026 for U.S. operations, focused on people, breweries and communities.

The Fort Collins project adds capacity for 25-oz cans, increases rail capacity to strengthen transportation and route-to-market capabilities, and includes a new on-site technical skills training center, one of 15 such centers nationwide.

Anheuser-Busch plans to upskill more than 90% of its manufacturing workforce over the next five years and notes it has invested $93 million in Fort Collins facilities since 2021.

Brewery news Germany: AB InBev redirects its German beer push to Budweiser
Concern is growing in Bremen over the future of Beck’s after AB InBev, the world’s largest brewer, sharply increased its push behind Budweiser in Germany while local employees and union officials say support for the Bremen beer brand has faded, Vinetur reported on September 21.

The issue has drawn attention 25 years after the former Interbrew group, now Anheuser-Busch InBev, bought the Beck brewery in Bremen for a multibillion-euro sum. Beck’s was once promoted around the world as a flagship German beer. Today, industry observers and labor representatives say the company’s priorities have shifted, with marketing money and commercial incentives now aimed more heavily at Bud, the U.S. lager that returned to the German market in late 2025 after a long absence.

Iris Münkel of the Food, Beverages and Catering Union, known as NGG, told Bremen broadcaster buten un binnen that the union has been watching a clear reduction in advertising support for Beck’s and Haake-Beck, another Bremen beer in the group’s portfolio. She said the brands are now barely visible even in Bremen, where they have deep roots. This year’s 200th anniversary of Haake-Beck passed with little public fanfare beyond a limited bottle label and an employee event, according to the ...More info on site

Brewery news USA: TTB tells brewers to specify malted barley and hops in filings
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau told brewers on September 18 to be more specific in beer and malt beverage formula submissions, warning that vague descriptions of ingredients are causing applications to be sent back for correction and slowing approvals, Vinetur reported.

In a newsletter issued Friday, the agency said a common problem is that applicants do not clearly state whether a product contains malted barley and hops. TTB said both ingredients must be present for a product to meet the definition of a malt beverage under the Federal Alcohol Administration Act. When those details are missing or unclear, formula submissions can be delayed.

The bureau said brewers should explicitly use the terms “malted barley” and “hops” in their filings and should avoid broad descriptions such as “malt base.” The guidance is aimed at companies submitting formulas for beer and malt beverages that require agency review before the products can move through the federal approval process.

TTB pointed brewers to several resources meant to reduce mistakes in applications. The agency said an example formula is available on its formulation page and said brewers can also use a “Boot Camp for Brewers” video that explains the formula approval process and what information ...More info on site

Brewery news Georgia: Beer exports up 77.2% in August
According to TASS, citing data from the National Statistics Service of Georgia, beer exports from Georgia to global markets in August amounted to 527.2 tonnes worth $636,200, an increase of 77.2% year-on-year.

Russia was the largest importer, with Georgia supplying 124 tonnes of beer.

Armenia was followed by Israel (85.7 tonnes), China (43.3 tonnes), Uzbekistan (39.9 tonnes), Latvia (33.2 tonnes), and Tajikistan (24.1 tonnes).

Brewery news The Netherlands & UK: Heineken on the verge of buying 300 pubs from Britain’s largest pub chain Stonegate
Heineken is on the verge of buying 300 pubs from Stonegate, Britain’s largest pub chain, The Times reported.

Stonegate has approximately 3.5 billion euros in debt and wants to sell 1,000 of its best pubs to ease the burden.

Heineken is prepared to pay 350 million euros for the 300 pubs. The brewer already runs about 2,350 pubs in the U.K. under its Star Pubs & Bars banners and brews brands including Amstel, Birra Moretti, and Cruzcampo.

Stongate operates about 4,500 pubs nationwide but is trying to sell 1,000 prime sites to raise cash. Most of the debt was incurred when the company bought rival Enterprise Inns for 3 billion punds in 2019, leaving it loaded with loans just before the pandemic forced British pubs to close for months.

Since the pandemic, the British pub sector has also been hit by soaring costs for beer, energy, and wages, and by higher employer taxes introduced by former Chancellor Rachel Reeves.

Although Heineken came close to a deal after talks this summer, people familiar with the matter reportedly caution there is no guarantee it will close. Several other suitors, including large investment firms, reportedly remain in the running, some of them potentially interested in the full 1,000-pub portfolio.

Brewery news Japan: Craft breweries pop up over Tokyo
Breweries that produce and sell craft beer are springing up one after another in Tokyo’s 23 wards, with their numbers jumping by about sixfold in the past 10 years, The Japan News reported on September 20.

The increase was kick-started by the 2018 amendment to the Liquor Tax Law that made it possible to produce a diverse range of local beers and happoshu quasi-beers. This culminated in a growing number of small-scale businesses entering the market.

Located near Nishiarai-Daishi temple in Adachi Ward, Adachi Brewery produces and sells 10 varieties of craft beer made with ingredients such as mango, pineapple and blackcurrant. The brewery’s American-Style Light Lager uses glutinous rice grown by the ward’s sole rice farmer, contributing to the “local production for local consumption” movement.

In May, the brewery opened a beer stand near the Nakamise shopping street in Asakusa, Taito Ward, targeting foreign tourists. “I want people both in Japan and from abroad to enjoy the unique and diverse flavors of our beers,” said President Yuki Ao, 48.

According to the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau’s latest statistics, there were 88 breweries shipping beer and happoshu within the 23 wards in 2024, up sharply from 15 in fiscal 2014.

This trend followed the Liquor ...More info on site

Whisky news UK: Scotch whisky producers facing growing pressure to move faster into canned cocktails
Scotch whisky producers are facing growing pressure to move faster into canned cocktails and other ready-to-drink products as that part of the spirits market expands, even as broader alcohol demand remains under strain, Vinetur reported on September 21.

Large drinks groups are putting more money and attention into spirit-based RTDs, arguing that the format is gaining ground with consumers who want convenience, lower serving sizes and more variety. For Scotch, the shift presents a difficult question: how to protect its premium image while competing in a category built on speed, portability and quick product turnover.

Diageo said in a recent corporate post that RTD is now one of its biggest strategic priorities. The company said cocktail cans are becoming a preferred option at UK festivals because they offer what it described as high-quality drinks in an accessible format. Diageo said it has sold more than 400,000 RTDs so far this year at 27 major UK festivals, pointing to product innovation as a key driver of demand.

Other global producers are reporting similar momentum. Pernod Ricard said RTD sales rose 17% in its latest fiscal year 2026 results. Conor McQuaid, the company’s U.S. chief, said RTD remains the standout growth category in the United ...More info on site
