At this moment there are two DEMANDS for 3000 tons of barley and an OFFER for 1500 tons of malt on the trading portal www.e-malt.com
- Offer for 1500 mtons of malt, Any 2RS(100%), crop 2001, in bulk, delivery May - July 2002, at EUR 289.00 /mton, FOB UK East Coast Port. (see please the malt offer with the code MF0905O1539)
- Demand for 2000 mtons of barley, 2RS Prisma, crop 2002, in bulk, delivery first half of year 2003, at EUR 131.00 /mton, FOB Creil (see please the barley request with the code BR1005O1347 )
- Demand for 1000 mtons of barley, 6RW Esterel, crop 2001, in bulk, delivery May 2002 to July 2002, at EUR 112.00/mton, FOB Creil ( see please the barley request with the code BR1005O1405 )

Baltic Beverages Holding AB (BBH) initially invests approx. USD 50 million in the building of a new brewery in Kiev in Ukraine. From the start the brewery will have a capacity of 1.2 million hl beer and is expected to be running in 2004. Later on, investments to expand the capacity will be undertaken.
The aim of the investment is to strengthen BBH's position in the capital area which has a strong purchasing power and at the same time to optimise distribution.
Today, BBH has a market share of 20 per cent and two other breweries in Ukraine - Slavutich in the Eastern part and Lvivska Pivovarnija in the Western part of Ukraine.
Namibia Breweries Limited has registered a drop of more than 19% in its
pre-tax profits. This loss is due in great part ,as Lionel Matthews, the
Financial Director of Namibian brewery recognizes himself , to the
marketing strategy and competitive force of its main rival- South African
Breweries. Due to the same rivalry the earnings per Namibia Breweries '
share have also decreased by 31.8c from 61,3c to 29,5c at present.
However , Lionel Matthews has declared that Namibia Breweries Limited
prepares a plan of response to the SAB's aggressive marketing and pricing
but mentioned that the brewery doesn't intend to engage in a price war.
Zlaty Bazant is the name of a new beer brand which was recently launched
by Slovak Heineken Slovensko on the Czech beer market . Zlaty Bazant is an
alcohol-free lager and will be put up for sale in bottles of 0.33 liters.
AmBev the first brewery in Brazil has decided to purchase a third from
the stock of Quilmes , the Argentina's leading brewer controlling 70%
of Argentinean beer market .
This deal (of about US$600 million) will give AmBev the significant chance
to strengthen considerably its position in Argentina and improve its
standing in Latin America , the Brazilian brewer already having brewing
operations in Venezuela, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The South African Breweries' intent to purchase American Miller has
engendered different kind of reactions
in the world of beer. One of the most recent and different from those from the past could be observed yesterday in
South Africa.
The National Unemployed Workers' Union together with a group of workers
that have been retrenched by SAB have protested against the brewer's plan
to acquire the American giant Miller. They have vehemently criticized SAB
