The mystery of glycosidically bound hop aroma compounds and their sensory contribution
ABSTRACT
Only a few studies so far have looked into the flavour potential of glycosidcally bound hop aroma compounds in the case of release of aglycones. These US researchers did an extensive study looking into the effect of enzyme hydrolysis, the use of different yeast strains, acid hydrolysis, as well as different sample preparation methods. Depending on the different treatments, the amount of Linalool, Terpineol, Citronellol, Geraniol, Damascenone, Nerol and also Eugenol increased and significantly influenced the sensory attributes of the beers (mainly herbal, tea, citrus, fruity, piney). In conclusion, CO2 extraction proved to be an effective sample preparation, ale yeast liberate more aroma than lager yeasts, enzymatic treatments depend on the relevant compounds, and acid hydrolisis is very effective.

The country’s beer market is controlled by three major players: Société anonyme des brasseries du Cameroun (Sabc), holding 82.2% of the market; Guinness Cameroun with a market share of 15%; and l’Union camerounaise de brasseries (Ucb), owned by a local businessman Kakji Defosso and claiming the rest of the market.
Sabc’s market share declined from 82.9% in 2011 to 82.2% last year, it is reported.

The suitability of malting barley varieties for brewing, malt distilling and grain distilling has been discussed at the spring meeting of the Malting Barley Committee, as reported by HGCA.
Moonshine and Odyssey have been promoted to Full Approval for malt distilling use and Venture to Full Approval for brewing use.
Odyssey, Archer and Overture have been moved to Provisional Approval 2 for brewing use and Overture also has Provisional Approval 2 for malt distilling.
The winter variety Talisman (for brewing use) and the spring varieties Sanette (for brewing use) and Glassel (for malt distilling) have been granted Provisional Approval 1 and added to the Approved List.
Chronicle, Shuffle, Quench and Winsome have been removed from the Approved List and Optic has been removed for brewing use.

India: Diageo completes acquisition of stake in United Spirits Ltd.

United Spirits Ltd. (USL) said Diageo plc. had completed the acquisition of 21,767,749 equity shares of Rs.10 each or 14.98 percent voting rights of USL at a price of Rs.1,440 apiece for a total consideration of 3,134.56 crore, RTT News reported on July, 5.
The acquisition involved the sale of 11.502 percent of the share capital of USL In the aggregate by United Breweries (Holdings) Ltd. (UBHL), and its wholly owned subsidiary, Kingfisher Finvest India Ltd., and the sale of 3.47 percent of the share capital of USL by its subsidiaries, UB Sports management Overseas Ltd. and Palmer Investment Group Ltd. to Relay B.V., an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Diagro, and the sale by SWEW Benefit Company of its shareholding in USL to Relay B.V.
The company's board deferred the sale of 3,459,090 shares or 2.38 percent stake held by USL Benefit Trust to Relay, of which the company is the beneficiary, as certain conditions for the sale of these shares were not currently satisfied. However, the terms of the sale of such shares by USL Benefit Trust to Relay will continue to be governed by the terms of the Share Purchase Agreement.
