Brewery news

Carlsberg beer is known worldwide by its green bottle. It is also familiar to Finns from advertising and restaurants’ beer selections. Now Carlsberg is also available in its green bottle in shops.

“For many who have become acquainted with Carlsberg abroad, the green bottle has become the symbol of beer enjoyment. Just the sight of it is perhaps enough to conjure up unforgettable memories of a vacation in exotic lands, or an urban-style holiday spent touring Europe’s cultural attractions”, says Brand Manager Jarno Aho.

“Packaging is an important part of a brand’s essence. Besides the flavour, the long-necked bottle and green colour are for many the deciding factors that have inspired their allegiance to Carlsberg beer. Beginning in January we have put the genuine green Carlsberg bottles on the shelves of Finnish grocery stores. The new bottles will also be available in a convenient multipack.”

The green 33-cl profile bottle is lighter and more stylish than previously. Carlsberg beer also goes extremely well with good food, and the elegant embossed bottle suits even the fanciest table settings.

“Carlsberg is a cleanly malted and balanced aromatically hopped lager. Its soft flavour is full-bodied and fresh. Carlsberg is a consistent, stylish and self-confident beer,” Aho explains.

Carlsberg beer has been sold in Finland since 1965; it joined Sinebrychoff’s selection in 1972. Sinebrychoff has brewed Carlsberg under license according to the Danish recipe since 1989. The beer is delivered to restaurants in 30-litre kegs and to grocery stores in 50-cl cans. The beer in the green profile bottles comes to Finland from Carlsberg’s birthplace in Denmark.

The timeless Carlsberg label

The Danes tasted Carlsberg Pilsner beer for the first time in 1904. Thanks to a new production process, the beer was clear and beautifully foamed. Carlsberg was the brewery’s first self-bottled beer. Previously the beer had been transported from the brewery in huge wood casks to different parts of Copenhagen for bottling by small family-owned enterprises.

The oval-shaped label, designed for the new beer by the Danish architect and artist Thorvald Bindesböll, featured white-edge with a green background. Bindesböll had also designed the logo marking the Carlsberg brewery’s 50th Anniversary in 1897. Today the front label for Carlsberg beer is almost the same as it was one hundred years ago; only minor changes have been made over the decades.

Carlsberg is sold in over 140 countries around the world. It is also the most popular international premium beer in Finland.
