Brewery news

Baltika 1, a 4.4% vol. version of Baltika, the leader in Russian beer markets, and Saku Kuld, the pride of Estonia, will supplement Sinebrychoff’s House of Beer selection in early April, according to Sinebrychoff’s news room, March 26.

In early 2006 Sinebrychoff assembled its high-quality imported beers under the House of Beer concept. The selection is expanding continuously; the latest arrival in March was Käki, manufactured by a Finnish microbrewery. In April, the 4.4% vol. version of Baltika, the market leader in Russia and Europe’s second most popular beer brand, will join the House of Beer’s top-quality selection.

Baltika beer is already sold in 38 countries. Joining Sinebrychoff’s selection will be Baltika 1, a modern international premium beer suiting Finnish tastes as a light, balanced Slavic-style lager whose flavour is balanced by a pleasantly hopped bitterness.

Domiciled in Russia, Baltika is one of Europe’s leading brewery companies. Of the 11 breweries it owns, the Baltika located in St. Petersburg, is Europe’s largest and most modern. The company, whose products are sold in almost every retail outlet in the country, is the clear market leader in Russia.

Founded in October 1820 by Count Karl Friedrich Rehrbinder, Saku is Estonia’s oldest brewery – just one year younger than Sinebrychoff.

Saku Kuld was launched in Estonia in October 2005; by the following spring it had been voted the best food product of 2006 and the best alcoholic beverage. The alcohol content of the Saku Kuld beer sold in Estonia is 5.2% vol. Saku Ölletehase AS’s premium beer brewed for the Finnish market will match the strength of medium-strength beers.

Saku Kuld is fresh and clear, a full-bodied malty and soft lager beer. Hallertau aromatic hops are used in its brewing, and dense foam tops the golden yellow beer. Chief Brewmaster Enn Kärblane recommends a serving temperature of 6-8 degrees. Saku Kuld’s aromas emerge best when the beer is well chilled.

Estonia’s most popular beer, the fruity, fresh Saku Originaal, joined Sinebrychoff’s selection in 2004. This fully malted, strongly hopped lager has led Estonia’s beer markets since 1995.
