Brewery news

The new softer requirements for beer advertising will stimulate the development of beer production in Belarus, said Irina Baryshnikova, Head of the Department for Consumer Rights Protection and Control of Advertising, Ministry of Trade of Belarus, according to the media, March 17.

Irina Baryshnikova also said that the softening of requirements for beer advertising will also be beneficial for the development of the advertising market of Belarus.

The Head of the Department specified that the law allows the distribution of beer advertising containing only information about beer producers and registered trade marks used to designate beer in outdoor advertising, in transport, when sports and cultural events are held etc., with the exception of such advertising in buildings (rooms, facilities) of organizations of the educational system, health-care organizations. Commenting on lifting of the ban on beer advertising on sports facilities she noted that “many beer companies are sponsors of sports events”.

Besides, the law allows advertising of registered hallmarks that are used to designate beer and that image people or animals. Let us recall that earlier the law on advertising banned the use of such images in advertising.

“By establishing legislative restrictions in advertising the State strives to keep the balance of interests of producers of goods, the agents of the advertising market on the one hand and the consumers of advertising – the citizens – on the other hand” said Ms Baryshnikova. – “The new reading of the law “On advertising” was adopted in May 2007 and it came into force only on November 22nd. Too little time has passed to speak about changing this law”.
