Brewery news

About 35 new pubs opened their doors last year in Romania due to the nation’s demand for imported premium and super premium beer, United Romanian Breweries Bereprod (URBB), one of the country’s leading beer makers and importers, said on March, 11.

The brewer projects a 75% increase for the total number of pubs in Romania this year.

“Romania’s total consumption of Guinness remained the same in 2009 as in 2008, but the consumption of the brand in pubs increased by 35% last year,” Doron Zilberstein, URBB Marketing Vice President, said.

Pubs accounted for about 70% of imported beer sales last year, he said.

Besides Guinness, URBB imports in Romania such international brands as Tuborg, Holsten, Carlsberg, Skol, and Kilkenny.
