Brewery news

Pivovar Svijany, the largest brewery in the Liberecky region, made a record profit of over Kc167 mln last year, up 73 percent against 2008, whereas sales from beer and services rose by 28 percent to Kc634m, CTK reported on August, 2.

Pivovar Svijany had over Kc493 mln sales and nearly a Kc97 mln profit in 2008.

Czech Breweries and Malt Houses Association members saw output fall by 5.9 percent last year but Pivovar Svijany raised output. It supplied 385,316 hectolitres of beer onto the market last year, over a fifth more than in 2008.

Output this year is to grow by over 6 percent to 410,000 hectolitres of beer. In the first half of the year, output rose by 15 percent to 199,000 hectolitres of beer so CEO Roman Havlik believes the plan will be exceeded.

Unlike other Czech breweries, Pivovar Svijany is selling most of its beer on the Czech market. Its exports were worth Kc1.5 mln last year.

Pivovar Svijany ranks among the country's ten largest breweries.
