Brewery news

It’s been a busy year for new breweries in Toronto, with Spearhead Brewing, Kensington Brewing Company and House Ales all launching in the past few months, Canadian Beer News reported on August, 15.

Adding to the list are four more breweries that are scheduled to debut before the end of the year:

• Indie Ale House, a brewery and restaurant in the Junction neighbourhood, will be opening sometime in the fall. Owner Jason Fisher and brewer Kevin Somerville will be presenting a sneak peak of a few of their beers at the August 28th edition of The Brewery Market.

• Junction Craft Brewing, founded by restaurant industry veteran Tom Paterson, will be launching in September with Conductor’s Craft Ale, created by brewmaster Doug Pengelly of Saint André Brewing, and brewed under contract at Guelph’s Wellington Brewery.

• Hogtown Brewers, a new venture from owners Peter Shippen and Noel Chambers, is hoping to debut its flagship Hogtown Ale during Toronto Beer Week in late September. The beer is being brewed on a contract basis at a yet to be disclosed location.

• Bellwoods Brewery will be opening later this year on Ossington Avenue, with owners Mike Clark and Luke Pestl – both ex-employees of Amsterdam Brewing – planning to operate a café in addition to the small brewery.
