Brewery news

Unibroue has brought back one of its most acclaimed anniversary ales, and has debuted it in the Ontario market before releasing it elsewhere, Canadian Beer News reported on November, 9.

Originally brewed as a one-off release in 2007 to mark the brewery’s 17th anniversary, Unibroue 17 is a dark Belgian-style ale aged with French oak and bottle refermented. The original edition won a number of international awards, including being chosen World’s Best Dark Ale at the 2010 World Beer Awards, and this success inspired Unibroue to bring it back.

Now known as Unibroue 17 Grande Réserve – the added designation recognizing its exceptional aging qualities – the beer will be brewed and released on an annual basis in a limited run of vintage dated and numbered bottles.

The first bottles from the 2011 edition are now available at LCBO outlets throughout Ontario, where it is retailing for C$9.95 per 750 ml bottle. Distribution elsewhere in Canada and the U.S. will follow in 2012.
