Brewery news

Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has signed a bill into law allowing the manufacture of stronger beer to be sold outside the state, WXVT reported on May, 1.

The law, signed on May, 1, allows state breweries to sell beer with more than 8% alcohol by weight to states that allow sales of stronger beer.

Mississippi only has one brewery, Lazy Magnolia in Kiln. Owners say the new law will allow them to both expand their offerings and to serve as a contract brewer for other companies that make beer with higher alcohol content. They also predict it will encourage other brewers to go into business in the state.

Mississippi's regulations on beer sales within the state will also change July 1, raising the ceiling on alcohol by weight from 5% to 8% by weight.
