E-Malt.com News article: Namibia: SABMiller purchases land for its future brewery in Okahandja
Brewery news

SABMiller’s plans to construct a N$258 million (US$34 million) brewery in Okahandja received a boost this week with the signing of the purchase agreement for the land where the brewery will be built in the town, New Era reported on September, 14.

SABMiller’s subsidiary in Namibia, Castle Brewing Namibia, signed the purchase agreement with the Okahandja Municipality.

The land was sold for N$8 million, according to the municipality.

SABMiller announced two years ago its plans to set up a 200 000-hectolitre brewery at Okahandja, after obtaining permission from the Namibian government.

SABMiller had been trying for nearly 20 years to set up a brewery in the country of its main competitor in the region, Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), the brewer of Windhoek Lager.

SABMiller’s brewery at Okahandja will be owned by a subsidiary company that is owned 60 percent by SABMiller and 40 percent by local partners, including three charitable trusts and a black economic empowerment group.
